The commands, the displa ys or the operations ma y differ when using another image editing application. In this case, ref er the instruction manual of the application you use .

56 A UT O-EXPOSURE LOCK Especially useful when scanning brac keted e xposures, AE (auto e xposure) lock lets y ou scan multiple images with the same initial e xposure settings. AE Lock sa v es the automatic exposure settings deter mined when an image is prescanned.
Dimâge Scan Dual II 57 AE AREA LOCK The AE area in auto e xposure adjusting mode can be changed and the exposure of that area is adjusted automatically . P erf or m the procedure below after prescanning the image. 2. Press the Shift key . • The AE area is indicated b y a line instead of the cropping area indicated by a dashed line .
58 FOCUS – POINT AF The Dimâge Scan Dual2 uses the CCD sensor f or autofocus . A utofocus uses the center of the image to determine focus . Nor mally , this results in an e xcellent scan because the film plane is flat. Howe ver , if the film is war ped or curled, or if A utofocus is turned off in the preferences , focus ma y not be accurate .
Dimâge Scan Dual II 59 FOCUS – MANU AL Use manual f ocus on a specific area of the image or to reduce the appearance of gr ain in grain y film (such as high-speed or pushed film) by slightly def ocusing it. MANU AL FOCUS 1. Clic k on . • The pointer will change to the Manual F ocus icon.

All the corrections perf or med before clic king on the Auto Image Correction b utton will be reset. This function is av ailable only when the Color depth is set to “8 bit” in the Preference Dialog bo x on page 39.
66 T ONE CUR VES/HIST OGRAM Clic k on in the Image Correction tab. When the T one cur v es/Histogram Correction b utton is click ed, the T one Cur v es and Histogram dialog bo x is display ed. The T one Cur v es par t allows y ou to change the tone cur ves and directly correct the output v alue.
Dimâge Scan Dual II 67 T ONE CUR VES/HIST OGRAM Changing the shape of a correction cur v e changes the output le vel f or each corresponding input lev el. Changing the shape of the red, green, or b lue cur ves aff ects color balance of the image. Changes to the RGB cur ve aff ect the image contrast and brightness.
68 T ONE CUR VES/HIST OGRAM The input slide bar has the Input shadow slider , Input gamma slider and Input Highlight slider . The output slide bar has the Output Highlight slider and Output shadow slider . The image can be corrected by dr agging the slider or inputting the v alue in the te xt box.

The images can be corrected by dr agging the slider or inputting the desired value in the te xt bo x.

74 A uto Setting When the A uto Setting button is clic ked, the satur ation of the image is corrected automatically without changing the hue and lightness. HUE/SA TURA TION/LIGHTNESS Reset If you clic k the Reset button, the settings in the current correction window are reset.
Dimâge Scan Dual II 75 Selecting the Correction Item The correction item of the av ailable v ariation can be selected from the color balance, brightness, contr ast and saturation. How e ver , the color balance and saturation are not av ailable when using the monochrome film.
76 V ARIA TION CORRECTION Color Balance Correction The 8 images of which brightness and contrast hav e been corrected by one-step in horizontal and v er tical direction respectiv ely f or the center image are display ed.
Dimâge Scan Dual II 77 Saturation Correction The 2 images of which saturation has been corrected on the right and left sides of the center image are display ed . The v ariation image on the left side shows reduced saturation, and on the right side shows increased saturation.
78 SNAPSHO T When the Snapshot button is clic ked, the current prescan image is stored in the Snapshot Displa y Area temporar ily and displa yed as a thumbnail. When the thumbnail in the Snapshot Displa y Area is double-clic ked, that image is displa yed in the Prescan tab .
Dimâge Scan Dual II 79 CANCELLING IMA GE CORRECTION Cancelling the Image Correction When the Undo button is clic ked, the current image correction is cancelled and the image retur ns to the pre vious one. Redo the Correction When the Redo button is clic ked, the cancelled image correction can be resumed.
80 FULL-SCREEN VIEW Full-Screen View This function allows y ou to display a full screen vie w of the corrected image in the Image Correction tab . 1. Clic k on . • When is click ed, the size of pre and post correction image is automatically changed according to the size of the Main window .

Dimâge Scan Dual II 85 SCAN SETTINGS Image resolution is the number of pix els per inch (ppi or dpi) that represent your scanned image. The size of an image file is determined by its siz e (dimensions) and resolution. The rule to follo w when scanning is "bigger is better".

Dimâge Scan Dual II 87 CREA TING/DELETING JOB FILES In addition to the Job settings included with the software , it is possible to create and sa ve y our own Job settings. Creating a Job 1. Set the desired settings in the Main window (Index tab or Prescan tab).
88 SCAN JOB TYPE Bef ore making the final scan, the scanner needs to know how big the final image will be and the quality of output that will be used (printer , monitor , etc.) so it knows what resolution to scan the film. Using the Job function is a quic k and easy wa y to enter the scan settings.
