EN - 7 Abnormal V ibrations ar e a warning of tro uble. S triking a foreign object can dam age unit. Immediately stop unit and en gine. Remove key and wait for al l moving par ts to stop. Remov e wire from sp ark plug. Inspect uni t and make any necessar y repairs before resta rt.

EN - 10 Unfold Upper Handleb ar Assembly (Figures 7 and 8) 1. Rotate the handlebar int o operating position. NOTICE: Be careful not to damage cable spring hooks when rotating handlebar upward. . 2. Install the remaining handlebar hardware attaching the upper handlebar assembly to t he lower handlebar (Figure 5).
EN - 11 Inst all Dis charge Chut e and Discha rge Chute Cr ank (921023, 024, 030, 032, 035) (Figures 10 and 1 1) 1. Grease underside of discharge chute ring (if not already greased). 2. Remove mounting hardware from auger housing (Figure 10). 3. Install discharge c hute over opening in the auger housing.
EN - 12 4. Remove the gear cover from t op of chute pedestal. 5. Release the lock arm on the gear assembly with your finger and rotate the discharge chute s o it points straight ahead. NOTICE: Make sure alignment markers on gear assembly are lined up when discharge chute is pointing straight ahead.
EN - 13 NOTICE: T o ens ure the d ischarge chute follows it s full range of travel, make sure the control lever is centered in th e slot and pointing straight up before installing the chute rod. 9. Insert chute rod end without ears into control lever and slide into control panel until opposite end of r od clears the gear assembly .
EN - 14 Inst all Skid Sho es (921029 , 032) (Figure 16) 1. Re move hardwa re from skid shoes. 2. Install hardware through blower housing and skid sho e as shown . 3. Adju st skid sho es (see Skid Shoes on page 27). Check Function of Dual Handle Interlock Without the engine running, press down (engage) both clutch levers.

EN - 17 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See Figures 17 and 18 for all Controls and Features locations. Dual Handle Interlock When Attachment Clutch and then T raction Drive Clutch are engaged, the Attachment Clutch will remain engaged (leve r down) if released.
EN - 18 S peed Selector Position the Speed Selector in the appropriate speed notch to control forwar d and reverse t ravel. Forwar d: (6) Fast est (1) Slowest Reverse: (1) Slow (2) Fast IMPORT AN T : DO NOT change motion from forwar d to reverse with clutch engaged.
EN - 19 Discharge Chute Crank (921023, 024, 030, 032, 035) (Figure 20) IMPORT ANT : If chute does not st ay in set position, adjust as directed in SE R VI C E AND ADJUST MENT S on page 27 , or repair before operation. Rotate the Chute with Discharge Chute Crank.
EN - 20 Skid Shoes The skid sho es control the distance between the scraper blade and the ground. Adjust skid shoes equally to keep blade level wit h the ground.
EN - 21 IMPORT ANT : DO NOT OVERF ILL! This equipment and/or its engine may include evaporative emissions contro l system components, required to meet EP A and/or CARB regulations, that will only function properly when the fuel t ank has been filled to the recomm ended level.
EN - 22 ST ARTING AND SHUT OFF IMPORT ANT : Allow unit and engine to adjust to the outdoor t emperatu re before clearing snow . Before shut-off, run the attachment a few minutes to prevent impeller freeze-up. NOTICE: T ry out each control without the engine running to se e how it works and what it does.
EN - 23 Shut Off 1. Release Traction Drive Clutch Lever and allow unit to come to a complete stop. 2. Run I mpeller a few minutes after us e to prevent freeze-up of Impeller . 3. Release A ttachment Clutch Lever and wait for all moving parts to com e to a comp l ete st op.
EN - 24 Ariens Dealers will provide any service or adjustments which may be required to k eep your unit operating at peak efficiency . Should engine service be required, contact an Ariens dealer or an auth orized engine manufacturer's service center.
EN - 25 CHECK CLUTCH OPERATION Auger / impe ller must stop within 5 s econds when attachment clutch lever is released. Wheels must st op quickly when tra ction drive clutch lever is released. If clutches do not engage or disengage properly , adjust or repa ir before operation.
EN - 26 GENERAL LUBRICATION IMPORT ANT : Wipe each fitting clean before and after lubrication. IMPORT ANT : DO NOT allow grease or oil to get on friction disc, f riction plate or belts. NOTICE: Apply Ariens Hi-T emp Grease or equivalent to the lubrication fitt ings.
EN - 27 SCRAPER BLADE IMPORT ANT : Damage to housing will result if blade wears down t oo far . Scraper blade is adjustable to compensate for wear . T o adjust scraper blade: 1. Tip unit back onto handlebar , support housing and loosen nuts retaining blade.
EN - 28 REMOTE DEFLECTOR CONTROL ADJUSTMENT (Figure 29) Deflector must stay in selected position while th rowi ng sn ow . If deflector does not stay in set pos ition: 1. Tighten nut beneath control panel to increase press ure on deflector control (Figure 29).
EN - 29 SPEED SELECTOR ADJUST MENT (Figure 32) T o adjust: 1. Disconnect adjustment pivot pin from speed selector lever by rem oving hairpin. 2. Place the speed selector on the control panel in the fastest forward speed position. 3. Turn the speed select or lever straight down towards the ground as far as it will go.
EN - 30 Check Att achment Idler Arm Roller Clearance (Figure 35) 1. Place the unit into the service position. Remove the bottom c over . 2. With t he attachment clutch lever engaged, check the clearance between the frame an d plastic roller on the lower end of the at tachment idler arm .
EN - 31 Check Belt Finge r Clear a nce 1. With at tachment clutch lever engaged, the belt finger located opposite the bel t idler must be less than 1/8" (3 mm) from belts, but not touching th e belts (Figure 37). T o adjust belt finger , loosen t he bolts and move the finger to the proper position.
EN - 32 Inst all New A tta chment Drive Be lts: 1. Place new attachment belts onto attachment pulley . NOTICE: Holding down t he attachment clutch lever will make it easier t o reconnect the housing and frame. 2. Tip housing and f rame back together and secure with hex bolts.
EN - 33 4. Pull idler aw ay from traction dr ive belt and remove belt from idler pulley , engine sheave and driven pulley (it may be necessary to turn engine pulley using recoil starter handle). 5. Install new traction drive belt onto driven pulley and engine sheave.
EN - 34 T RA CK T ENSION ADJUSTMENT (921023) (Figures 42 and 43) Check the track tension by applying press ure on the track mi dway between the uppe r and rear track rollers. Deflection should be approximately 3/8" (9.6 mm) (Figure 42). If deflection is excessive, tighten the track tension.
EN - 35 SHORT T ERM IMPORT ANT : NEVER spray unit with high pressure wa ter or st ore unit outdoors. Run with attachment clutch engag ed a few minutes after each use to free unit of any loose or melting snow . Close fuel shut-off valve. Inspect unit for v isible signs of wear, breakage or damag e.
EN - 36 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTION Engine wi ll not crank/ start. 1. Fuel t ank is empty . 2. Fuel shut-off valve closed. 3. Build up of dirt and residue around governor/carburetor . 4. Key Switch not in run position. 5. Electric starter not functioning.
