Keep people away f rom unit while operating. Shut off engine, remove key , and read manual before you adjust or repair unit.
GB - 6 8. DANGER! EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CERTIFICATION LABEL T ampering with em ission controls and components by unauthorized personnel may result in severe fines or penalties. Emission controls and components can only be adjusted by EP A and/or C ARB authorized service centers.
GB - 7 NEVER direct discharge towards persons or property . Thrown objects may ricochet back towards operator . ALWAYS stand clear of the discharge area. AL WA Y S disengage attachment, stop unit and engine, remove key , engage parking brake, and allow m oving parts to stop bef ore leaving operator ’s position.
GB - 8 NEVER fill containers inside a vehicle or on a truck or trailer bed with a plastic liner . Always place containers on the gr ound away from your vehicle before filling. When practical, remov e gas-powered equipment from the truck or trailer and refuel it on the ground.
GB - 9 T ools R equired • Adjustable wrench • Petroleum jelly or dielectric grease. Unp ack Unit Remove unit and all other compon ents from the shipping contai ner . Engage transmission bypass lever (s ee M OVING UNIT MANUALL Y on page 14). Push unit from container onto a level surf ace.

GB - 12 CONTROLS AND FEA T URES See figure 4 for all controls and features locations. Safety Interloc k System Perform the following tests to ensure the safety interlock system is working p roperly . If the unit doe s not perform as stated contact your Ariens dealer for repairs.
GB - 13 Power T ake-Off (PTO ) Switch Engages (2) and disengages (1) mo wer blades. S teering Lever s • Reverse (1) – Pull both steering levers backward. • Forward (2) – Push both steering levers forward. • Left (3) – Pull lef t steering lever back or push right steering lever forward or a combination of both.
GB - 14 ST ARTING A ND SHUTTING OFF ENGIN E S tarting the Engine NOTE: Disengage the PT O, engage the parking brake, and place the steering l evers in neutral prior to starting the en gine. 1. If the engine is c old, move t he choke control to the On position.
GB - 15 IMPORT ANT : Prope r maintenance can prolong the life of unit. The following chart shows the recommended service sched ule. Refer to the maintenance instructions in the Engine Manual for additional information.
GB - 16 Each Use Follow Engine Manual Mainten- ance Schedule Perform sch eduled engine maintenance. Refer to Engine Manual for detailed instructions. NOTE: T o drain the oil, use the oil dr ain petcock (1) supplied with unit, not the drain plug that is shown in the Engine Manual.
GB - 17 TIPPING SEA T FORW ARD Put steering levers up and tip s eat forward (figure 7). SEA T ADJUSTMENT 1. T i p the s eat forward. 2. Loosen mounting hardw are and slide seat forward or backward to desired position. Tighten mounting hardware (figure 7).
GB - 18 Inst all (Figure 8) 1. Slide mower deck under unit. NOTE: Perform step 2 and 3 for t he right and left side of unit. 2. Install front and rear trunnions on li ft arms. 3. Inst all drag link on mower deck. 4. I nstall PT O belt on electric clutch (see REPLAC ING PTO BEL T on page 23) .
GB - 19 The Forward Pitch O f The Mower Blades (Figur e 10): • Should be 0.0 in. (0.0 mm) to 1/4 in. (6.35 mm) pitched forward. NOTE: This measurement m ust be taken when the m ower blades e nds are facing forward. The Pitch O f The Mo we r Bla des From Side-T o-Side (Figu re 1 1): • Should be within 1/4 in.
GB - 20 Adjusting The Mower Deck T o Adjust Mower Blade Height And Pitch (Figure 12): NOTE: Adjusting the mower deck will adjust he height and pitch of t he mower blades. 1. Adjust the trunnions first and re-take the three measurements required to level and adjust the pitch of the m ower deck.
GB - 21 1. Remove mower blade from unit (see REPLA CING M OWER BLADE on page 20). Ariens recommends having mower blades sharpened by a profes sional. Contact your Ariens dealer . Discard mower blade if (figure 13): • more than 1/2 in. (1.27 cm) of metal is removed.
GB - 22 3. Clean battery cable ends, negat ive (–) terminal, and positive (+) terminal with a wire brush and rinse with a weak baking soda solution. 4. Connect positive (+) cable first, then negative (–) cable. 5. Apply petroleum jelly or dielectric grease to battery cable ends and terminals.
GB - 23 Forw ard and R eve rs e Sp eed Adjustment (Figure 14) IMPORT ANT : The unit should track within 2 feet (0.61 m) of a straight line for 30 feet (9.14 m). The travel of the steering levers may need adjustment if: • The unit turns to the right or left when both steering levers are pushed as far forward as possible.
GB - 24 REPLACING HYDROST A TIC BEL T Remove (Fi gure 16) 1. Remove PTO belt (see REPLACING PTO BEL T on page 23). 2. Disconnect Electric Clutch Connector from P T O. 3. Disconnect idler spring. 4. Remove hydrostatic belt from hydrostatic transmission pulleys, pulley , electric clutch, and idler .
GB - 25 Short T erm Storage IMPORT ANT : NEVE R clean unit with high- pressure wa ter or st ore unit outdoors. Remove all dirt, greas e, leaves, etc. Store in a clean dry area . Inspect unit for s igns of wear or damage. Ensure all fasteners are properly tightened.
GB - 26 Engine runs rough. 1. Choke engaged. 1. Disengage choke. 2. Air filter cartridge plugged. 2. Clean o r replace air filter c artridge. Refer to Engine Manual for detailed instructions. 3. Faulty engine. 3. Contact your Ariens Dealer. Unit does not move with engine running when using steering levers.
GB - 27 Unit does not travel in a straight line. 1. Incorrect tire pressure. 1. Check tire pr essure (s ee SPECIFICA TIONS on page 29) 2. Steering levers need adjustment. 2. Adjus t steering levers ( see Forward and Reverse Speed Adjustment on page 23) 3.
