AL WA YS shut off engi ne, allow blade to stop and disconnect spark plug w ire before clearing clogs or cleaning unit.
GB - 7 Charge batteries in an open, well-ventilat ed area, away from spark and flames. U nplug charger before connecti ng or disconnect ing battery . Wear protective clothing and us e insulated tools. Accidental engine start up can cause death or serious injury .
GB - 8 CARTON CONTE NTS ASSEMBL Y 1. Rem ove mower and handlebar from carton. 2. I nstall the handlebars on the pivot pins attached to the handlebar upr ights. NOTE: Make sure the cables (connected to the handlebar) a re on the left side of the unit. 3.
GB - 9 6. Connect the engine/ blade control cable to the engine. Route the z-bend cable end i n to engine shutoff lever as shown below . Insert the cable connector into the cable mounting bracket on the engine. Make sure the connector snaps into place securely .

GB - 1 1 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See Figure 6 for locations. Engine/Blade Control The engine/blade control must be held against the handlebar to start the engine and blade. NOTE: For models 91 1 1 12, 1 13 pivot the engine/blade control into position. Do not pull back toward the operator while starting t he engine or the wheel drive may engage.
GB - 12 S tand a rd Models T o change cutting height, move cutting height levers one notch at a t ime on each wheel to set desired height (Figure 7). NOTE: Each wheel on mower must be set at the same height fo r a level cut . OPTIONAL CONTROLS Primer Bulb (91 1 1 10, 1 1 1) Push the primer bulb in to add fuel f or easier engine start.
GB - 13 9 1 111 2 , 11 3 T o drive forward: Slowly pull the wheel drive control toward you until you reach a comfortable ground speed. Hold the wheel drive control in this position to maintain t he speed.
GB - 14 MOWER SET -UP T o Bag (Optional on Push Models) See Figure 1 1 on page 14. 1. Shut off unit. 2. Make sure mulch cover is closed and secured with knob. 3. Lift rear door and remove m ulch plug, if necessary . 4. Seat bagger chut e inside deck opening and on top of deck.
GB - 15 T o Mulch See Figure 13 on page 15. 1. Shut off unit. 2. Remove grass bag and side discharge chute, if installed. 3. Make sure mulch cover is closed and secured with knob. 4. Lift r ear door and insert mulch plug with the beveled face to the left .
GB - 16 ST ARTING AND SHUT OFF See Figure 6 for all Controls and Features. NOTE: S tart engine on a level surface that i s free of debris. Manual S tart 1. Check each item in the Before Each Use section of t he MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE on page 17. 2. Open fuel shutoff valve (91 1 1 12, 1 13).
GB - 17 Ariens Dealers will provide any service, parts or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak ef ficiency . Should engine require se rvice, contact an Ariens Dealer or an authorized engine manufacturer's service center .
GB - 18 Sharpen the Mowe r Blades 1. Remove mower blade from unit. Discard mower blade if: • More than 1/2 in. (1.27 cm) of metal is removed. • Air lift s become eroded. • Blade is bent or bro ken. 2. Sharpen mower blade by removing an equal amount of mat erial from each end of mower blade.
GB - 19 CHECK SP ARK PLUG S park plug should be replaced ev ery 100 hours of operation or each year . NOTE: Loose spark plug wire terminals can cause sparking. Replace terminal if damaged. CHECK ENGINE COOLING T o prevent overheat ing, air must circ ulate freely around the c ooling fins, cylinder head and block.
GB - 20 DRIVE BEL T REPLACEMENT (self-pro pelled mode ls) T o remove drive belt: 1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug. 2. Remove transmission cover. 3. Disconnect idler return spring from idler arm. See F igure 17. 4. Disconnect the wheel drive cable from transmission mount, and then disconnect drive c able spring from idler arm.
GB - 21 2. Connect the wheel drive cable spring to the idler arm as shown in Figure 20, and then connect t he wheel drive cab le to the transmission mount. See Figure 17. 3. Connect the idler return spring t o the idler arm. 4. Install the blade adapter and blade on the crankshaft.
GB - 22 WHEEL DRIVE C ONTROL ADJUSTMENT (self-propelled models) See Figure 23. NOTE: The unit should stop immediately when the wheel drive control is released, and the unit should not creep forward when the wheel drive control is dis engaged with the engine running.
GB - 23 IMPORT ANT : NEVER spray unit with high- pressure wa ter or store unit outdoors. S tore mower in a coo l, dry , protected loc ation. Cleaning Allow unit to cool. Clean unit thoroughly with mild soap an d low pressu re water . Brush off dirt and debris from all surfaces.
