St ep One: A ssemble Handlebar s NO TE: The Ariens compan y has made changes t o pack aging tha t aff ects this seria l number r ang e. If the upper hand lebar s on y our unit cam e alr eady a t tached please disr egar d the f ollowing fiv e slides.
St ep One: Assemble Handlebars (Unf old Lower Handlebar) 1. Remove wheel pins from each side of the unit and slide wheels away from f rame. Do not remove w heels compl etely . IMPORT ANT : Be sure to block wheels or secur e unit so it does not move during assembly .
St ep One: Assemble Handlebars (A tt ach Upper Handlebar Ass embly) 1. Attach upper handlebar assem bly to lower handlebar using two sets of the handleba r hard war e. One set to attach each side of the handleba rs. NOTE: DO NOT tighten hardwar e. Allow upper handlebar assembly to hang from the lower handleba rs for the next step.
St ep One: Assemble Handlebars (A t tach Con tr ol C ables) 1. Hook Spring end of attachment contro l cable to the clutch arm. 2. Hook spring end of the traction control cable to the cable eyelet on back of fram e. NOTE: Make sure cable remains in groove of pulley .
St ep One: Assemble Handlebars (Unf old Upper Handl ebar) Assembly) 1. Rotate handleba r into opera ting posit ion. NOTE: Be careful not to damage cable spring hooks when rotating handlebar upward. 2. Install the remaining handl eba r hardw are attach ing the upper handlebar assem bly to the lower hand le bar .
St ep One: (Connect Headlight Wire Ha rness) NOTE: The headlight wire harness com es attached to the upper handlebar assembly . 1. Route the wire harness along the interior of the right side handlebar . 2. Connect to the engine electrica l plug. 3. Press cable anchor into mounting hole in the frame near the engine electrical plug.
St ep One: Assemble Handlebar 1. Remove the lower and loosen the upper hardw are on the handlebar assembly . 2. Loosen the hard war e on the shift rod. 3. Put the speed selector lever in the sixth forward position. 4. Rotate the handlebar into operating position.
St ep T wo: Inst all Discharg e C hute 1. Grease underside of discharge chute ring (if not already greased). 2. Remove mounting hardware from auger housing 3. Install discharge chute over opening in the auger housing. Finger tighten the mounting hardwar e removed above.
St ep Three: Ins tall Dischar ge Chut e Cr ank 1. Remove gear cover from top of chute pedesta l. 2. Slide Chute Crank through the nylon bushing in the support bracket under control panel. NOTE: Be careful not to damage nylon bushin g w hen attach ing crank to the control panel .
St ep F ou r: Inst all Remot e Deflect or Cable 1. Pull rubber seal cap away from snap fitting. 2. Install snap fitting into cable bracket ’ s mount ing hole located under the dash. 3. Position rubber seal cap over the top of snap fitting. 4. Move deflector contr ol lever to forward most position.
6. Secure cable eye to control lever with sleeve bushing and hairpin . 7. Using the wire hook attached to the deflector cable, hook cable to discharge chute crank. 8. Install cable into clip on top of discharge chute pedestal . 9. Make sure deflector cable loops above gear cover between cable clip and cable support bracket .
St ep Fiv e: Check Functio n of Dual Hand le In t erlock Without the engine running, press down (engage) both clutch levers. Release attachment clutch lever . Attachment clutch s hould remain engaged until traction clutch lev er is released, then both clutches must disengage.
St ep Six: Check Tir e Pres sur e Check tire pressure and adjust to the pressure listed on tire sidewall..
St ep Sev en: Adjus t Skid Shoes IMPORT ANT : Skid shoes should be adjus ted as conditions require. Allow 1/8 in. (3mm) between scraper blade and hard smooth surfac es. Allow 7/8 in (22 mm) between scraper blade and uneven or grav el surfaces. (See Skid Shoes in O wners Manual) .
Check oil level in auger gearcase (see Check Auger Gearcase in Owners Manual). St ep Eight: Check Aug er G ear case Oil.
IMPORT ANT : The engine is shipped with oil in crankcase. Refer t o Engine Manual for detailed instructions. St ep Nine: Check Engine Cr ank case Oil.
Fill fuel tank. DO NO T OVERFILL! See FILLING FU EL T ANK in Owners Manual. Remove the plug from the fuel tank and install the fuel cap located in the attached bag.
St e p Elev en: St arting the Engine.
St arting Engine / St ep A: Thr ottle Move the throttle control lever to the fast position. Operate the engine with the thrott le control lever in the fast position.
St arting Engine / St ep B: Fuel V alve T urn the fuel shut - of f valve to the “ON” position..
St arting Engine / St ep C: Ke y Insert the key and turn to the on /start position..
St arting Engine / Step D : Chok e T urn the chok e control knob to the choke position. NOTE: Choke is usually unnecessary when restarting a warm engine.
St arting Engine / Step E : Prime Push the primer two times. Be sure to cove r the vent hole on the primer bulb. NOTE: Priming is usually unnec ess ary when restarting a war m engine.
St arting Engine / Step F : (Manual St art) Firmly hold the starter cord handle. Pull the starter cord handle slowly u nt i l re s is tance is felt, then pull rapidly . NOTE: If the engine does not start after repeated attempts, go to BRIGGSandSTRA TTON.
St arting Engine / St ep F : (Electric St art) First conn ect the extension cord to the power cord rec eptacle and then into a wall receptacle. If an additional ext ension cord is requir ed, make sure it is a 3 - wire grounded extens ion cord.
St arting Engine / St ep G: (Electric St art) Depress the push button. After you start the engine, first disconnect the extension cord from the wall receptacle and then from the power cord receptacle.
St arting Engine / Step H: W arm up Allow the engine to warm up for several minutes. Then, slowly move the choke control knob to the run position..
St ep T welv e: St opping the Engine T urn the key to the of f position or move throttle control lever to slow and then to the stop position (completely left). Remove the key . Keep away from reach of children. After engine stops, turn t he fuel shut - of f valve to the closed (vertical) posit ion.
