Opening Micr osoft W ord On A Pc T o launch Micr osoft W ord, go to Start > All Programs > Micr osoft Ofce > Micr osoft Ofce W ord 2011VV (Figure 1). A blank W ord document will open. Figure 1. Computers crash and documents ar e lost all the time , so it is best to sav e often.
Sa ving Later After you ha v e initially sa v ed your blank document under a new name, you can begin writing y our paper . How ev er , you will still want to periodically sa v e your w ork as insurance against a computer freeze or a po wer outage. T o sa v e , click Ofce icon > S ave .
The Formatting toolbar : (Figure 5). This toolbar contains icons for common formatting actions, such as Font Style, Font Size, Bold, Italic , Underline , Alignment, Numbered List, Bulleted List, Indentation, Spacing, and Font Color .
F ormatting Para graphs T o format y our paragraph, rst highlight the paragraph you wish to f ormat. T o highlight more than one para - graph, click at the beginning of the paragraph and drag the mouse o ver the text. T o apply changes to the entir e document, go to Edit > Select All .
Cut, Cop y , And P aste Y ou can use the Cut, Cop y and Paste featur es of W ord to change the order of sections within y our document, to mov e sections from other documents into ne w documents, and to sav e yourself the time of r etyping repetitiv e sections in a document.
Numbered And Bulleted Lists T o create a simple n umbered or bulleted list, click on the Number or Bullet button on the Formatting toolbar . T o ha ve mor e control o ver the format of y our list, go to Format > Bullets and Numbering. This will open up the Bullets and Numbering Menu (Figur e 9).
Headers and footers Headers and Footers can be used to giv e a uniform look to the pages of y our document. T o create one, go to View > Header and F ooter . Use the Header and Footer toolbar (Figur e 11) to inser t and format w ords and objects in the header .
T o inser t Clip Ar t: 1. Go to Inser t > Picture > Clip Ar t, and then select the desired pictur e in the Clip Galler y and click insert. The picture will be inserted at the location of your cursor within y our document.
Inserting Fr om A Pre viously Created File T o inser t a pictur e or object that is not in the Clip Galler y , go to Insert > Picture > Fr om File and select the directory or disk where the le is located. T o inser t a Micr osoft Excel le or graph, go to Inser t > Object and select Fr om File .
It is important to alwa ys sa ve y our document before y ou print! Print Pre view Befor e you print y our document, you ma y want to pr eview it to mak e sur e you ar e happ y with the page la yout and a ppearance of your document. T o do this, go to File > Print Pre view .
Printing T o print your document, go to File > Print , select your desir ed settings, and then click Print again. It is also possible to print by using the Print icon on the Standar d toolbar , how ever this does not bring up the Print dialogue box that allo ws you to change y our printing options, so it is advisable to use the other method.
Undo And Redo In order to undo an action, go to Edit > Undo . T o redo an action, go to Edit > Redo . It is impor tant to note that not all actions ar e undoable , thus it is impor tant to sa ve befor e you mak e any major changes in y our document so y ou can rev er t back to y our sa ved document.
