1 Introduction Microsoft PowerPoint is widely used for making professional quality presentations in a variety of formats, including on-screen computer slide shows, black-and-white or colour overheads, and 35mm slides. You can also use it for speaker's notes and audience hand -outs.
2 The main part o f the screen is divided into two section s. The main section sho ws th e current slide, w h ile on the left, slide miniatu res appear, allowing you to see the current slide in its c ontext. In the very top left co rner of the screen is t he [O ffice Button] which can be used to open or print yo ur presentation.
3 Adding New Slides You are n ow going to ad d th e next slide: 1. Click on the [Ne w Slide] button on the left of the Home tab in the Slides group (clic k on the ico n not on the words New S lide ) or simply pres s <Ctrl m> A new slide app ears in a different slide layo ut from the first c alled Title and Con tent .
4 IMPORTANT: if y ou wanted to apply all or some of the above changes t o every slide in a presentation, you would need to make the changes on the M aster Slide . It’s best to do thi s before yo u start typing your words onto the slides . You will look at Master Slides later .

In the second row, click on [Two Content ] – a new placeholder app ears on the right Adding a Picture from the Clip Art Gallery This new plac eholder has con tent icons (in the c entre) as well as the usual bul let points at the top. T hese let you add a Table, Chart, SmartArt, Pictu r e, Clip Art or Media Clip respect ively.

8 Guides, Gridlines and Rulers When creating your slides, the placeholders ha ve largely been left in their defau lt positions. Often, peo ple move them aroun d slightly, usually to cram extra in formation o nto a slide. Thi s isn’t good practice – not only do you en d up with too much o n a slide but the c onsistency of layout is lo st.
9 Notes Page gives a view with more spac e for speake r's notes under the slide. Here, you can type up exactly what you plan to say fo r each slide. The no tes can then be printed out so you have them to consult when giving an actual presen tation Zoom.

11 Animating your Prese ntation Presentations are g reatly improved by adding an imation. PowerPoint give s you a wide selection of built-in animations, bo th when moving betwee n one slide and the next and within each slide (as yo u introduce points in a list, fo r example).
12 Only a few animation schemes are listed . Some bring in all the bullet points to gether, eg Fade All At Onc e , while others b ring them in o ne by one, eg Fade By 1 st Level Paragraphs . As you move the mou se over the list , you are shown what each animation looks like o n the slide.
