4. To remove the SIM card, pull it out from the slot. 5. To remo ve the memory c ard, p ull it out from the sl ot. 6. Line up the battery contact s, and put the battery in.
7. Press the bottom edge o f the back c o v e r a g a i n s t t h e b o t t o m e d g e of you r phone, and snap the cover into place. Don't press the keys while attaching the cover. 8. Switch your phone on. Switch the phone on Switch your phone on, and st art exploring it.

Unlock the keys and scree n Press the power key, and drag the lock screen up. Tip: Instead of pressing the power ke y, you can also double-tap the screen if double- tap is switched on. To switch on double-tap, on the start scr ee n, swipe down from the top of the sc reen, tap ALL SETTINGS > touch , and s witch Wake up to On .
Charge your phone Learn how to charge your phone. Charge your phone with a USB charg er Y o u r b a t t e r y h a s b e e n p a r t i a l l y c h a r g e d a t t h e f a c t o r y , b u t y o u m a y n e e d t o r e c h a r g e i t b e f o r e you can switch the phone on for the first time.
First connect the USB cable to th e computer, then to your phone . When the battery is full, first disconnect the USB c able from your phone, then from the computer. The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, bu t it wil l eventua lly wear out.

Reset prot ection pr events a thie f from resetting and reusing yo ur phone if your phone gets stolen. Tip: You can a lso cr eate a Microsoft accoun t later . On the start scr een, swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap ALL SE TTINGS > email+accounts > add an account > Microsoft account .
Tip: To go back to the start screen f rom any view, tap the start key . T h e a p p s m e n u i s t h e h o m e t o a l l y o u r a p p s – i n n e a t a l p h a b e t i c al order. All the installed apps end up here. To look up an app in the apps menu, tap , or tap a letter.
In the action center, you can quickly see notifications, such a s your missed ca lls and unread mails and m essages, open the ca mera, and acces s all phone setti ngs. Navigate inside an app There ’s more to your apps than m eets the eye. To find more view s in an app, swipe left.
Use the touch screen Explore your phone with a tap, swipe, or drag. To open an app or other ite m, tap the app or item. Tap and hold to open further o ptions Place your finger on an item until the menu opens. Tap and hold to drag an item Place your finger on the item for a co uple of seconds, and slid e your finger across the screen.
Swipe Place your finger on the screen, and slide your finger in the d irection you want. For example, swipe left or right between the start screen and t he apps menu, or between different views in the hubs. Scroll through a lo ng list or menu Slide your finger quickly i n a flicking motion up or down the s creen, and lift yo ur finger.
Zoom in or out Place 2 fin gers o n an item, such a s a ma p , p ho t o , o r we b p a ge , and slide your fingers apart or together. Lock the screen orientation The screen rotates automatically when you turn the phone 90 deg rees.
Back, start, and search keys The back, start, and search keys help you navi gate your phone. • To see whic h apps you have ope n, tap and hol d the back ke y . Transfer content u sing your Micro soft account If your old phone is a Windows P hone, the easiest way to tra nsf er your contacts, calendar , and text messages to your new Lumia phone is your Mi crosoft account .
Transfer c ontent fro m a Symbian or S40 phone U s e N o k i a S u i t e t o t r a n s f e r y o u r c o n t a c t s , c a l e n d a r e n t r i e s , a n d photos from a Symbian or S40 phone to your Lumia phone. Make sure you have the latest Nokia Suite installed on your PC.

Switch between views and apps Not all your apps are on the sta rt screen – swipe to the apps m enu to find them. Or check what’s already running on your p hone and switch between the app s. To see all the apps on your phone , on t he s t ar t sc r e en , si m p ly swipe left.
Navigate the setti ngs menu On th e s t ar t s cr ee n, sw ip e d o wn fr om th e t op of th e s cr e en , a nd ta p ALL SETTINGS . By default, the volume keys cont rol the volume of alarms and re minders. If you have connected headpho nes, the volume keys cont rol both ringtone a nd media volume at the same time The maximum volume level is 30.
Your SIM card is locked. Airplane m ode is swi t ched on. Your phone is roaming outside your home mobile network. Mobile dat a connection Single lett ers, comb inations of letters, or c ombinati ons of let ters a nd numbers s how the type of mobile network to which you're connected.

OneDrive Learn what OneDrive is and how to use it. OneDrive cloud st orage S t o r e y o u r s t u f f i n t h e c l o u d s . Y o u d o n ' t n e e d t o w o r r y a b o u t f reeing memo ry for your fav orite or new apps. OneDrive is cloud storage for al l your documents and photos, so you can access, share, or restore them if needed.
Save an Off ice document to OneDrive Tap Office , swipe to places , and tap ph one . Then tap and hold the file you want to save, and tap save to... > OneDri ve . Tip: You can also save a d o cument t o OneDrive while working on it. T ap > save as.
Personalize your phone Learn how to personalize the sta rt screen, and how to change ri ngtones. Personalize the st art screen Make your start screen yours – c hoose your background photo, pi n your favorite apps and mu ch m ore to t he s ta rt s cre en , or cha nge the ti le s ize and la you t as you li ke.
Resize or unpi n a tile To re size, tap and hold the ti le, and tap the arrow icon. The tiles can be either smal l, m edium, or wide. The bigger the til e is, the more informat ion it can show.
Pin an app Swipe left to go to the apps men u, tap and hold the app, and ta p pin to start . Pin a contact Tap People , tap and hold the contact, and tap pin t o start . W h e n y o u p i n c o n t a c t s , t h e i r f e e d u p d a t e s a r e s h o w n o n t h e t i l e , and you can call them directly from the start screen.
Tip: You c an de ci de wh i ch ap p n ot if i ca ti on s, su ch a s m is se d c al l s o r n ew me ss a ge s, yo u want to see on the lock screen. Simpl y tap a notification slot, and choose the app you want to add. Show the artist when playing music Switch Show artist when playing music to On .

Switch your phone to s ilent mode When you switch silent mode on, all ringtones and alert tones a re muted. Use this when yo u are, for example, at the theater or in a meeting. Press a volume key to see the vo lume s tatus bar at the to p of t he screen, and tap .
You need a Microsoft a ccount to use Cortana. Cortana is not available in all regions and languages. For info on the supported languages, go to www.windowsphone.com . Set up Cortana Tell Cortana a little bit about yourself, so i t can be tter help you find what you’re looking for.
Turn high cont rast on Switch High contrast to On . Magnify the screen Switch Screen magnifier to On , and double- tap the screen w ith 2 fingers. When using the ma gnifier, use 2 f ingers to move around the screen. To stop magnifica tion, double-tap the screen with 2 fingers.
Unlock the keys and scree n when using the scree n reader Press the power key to wake up t he screen, then double-tap the start key . Close the screen read er Press the start key and the volume up key at the same time to switch Narrator off or back on.
U s e B a t t e r y S a v e r Y o u c a n s e t y o u r p h o n e t o a u t o m a t i c a l l y s a v e p ower when the battery charge level is low. To check the battery status, and to switch Battery Saver on, tap Battery Saver . When your phone goes into battery saver mode, you may not be able to cha nge the settings of all apps.
Use location services selectively If you want to k eep location s ervices switched on , but don't want t o use check- i n services, on the start screen, tap P e o p l e > > settings , and s witch Use my location t o Off .
1. Make sure WiFi networking is switch ed to On . 2. Select the connection you want to use. Close a mobile data connection On the start screen, swipe down f rom the top of the screen, tap ALL SETTINGS > cellular +SIM , and switch Data connection to off .
Switch between upper and lower case character s Tap the shift key. To switch caps l ock mode on , double-tap the key. To return to normal mode, tap the shift key again. Type in a number or special character T a p t h e n u m b e r s a n d s y m b o l s k e y .
Add an accent to a character Tap and ho ld the character, an d tap the accent o r the accented character, if supported b y y our keyboard. Delete a character Tap the bac kspace key. Move the cur sor To edi t a word yo u just w rote, t ap and ho ld the t ext unti l you see the cursor.
Add a new word to the dictionary If the w ord you want is n't in th e dictionary, write the word, t a p i t, and tap th e pl us si gn ( +) in the suggestion bar.

Clock and calendar Keep track of time – learn how t o use your phone as a clock, as well as an alarm clock, and how to keep your appointments, ta sks, and schedules up to date. Set an alar m You can use your phone as an al a rm clock, and even set your fav orite so ng as your ala rm tone.
Turn an alarm off Tap Alarms , and switch the alarm to Off . Delete an al arm Tap the alarm and . Update the time and date automatic ally You can set your phone to update the time, date, and time z one automatically. Automatic update is a network service a nd may not be available depending on your region or network service provid er.
Example: You can create an event to a calendar you are sharing with othe r people, such as your work calendar, so they know when you are busy. Change your status for an event Wh en y ou w ant to let ot her s kn ow w hen yo u’ re b usy or out of t he o ffi ce, ta p more details > Status and the status you want.
Mark a task as complete Tap and hold the task, and tap complete . Use multiple calendars When you set up your mail or soc ial networking accounts on your phone, you can sync the calendars from all your accounts in one place. 1. Tap Calen dar . 2. To show or hide a calendar, tap > setting s , and turn the calendar on or off.
Store Ma ke y our pho ne you r o wn w it h mo re a pp s, g ame s, and ot her ite ms , some of which are free of charge. Browse Store to find the latest content fo r you and your phone.
Using s ervices or dow nloading co ntent, including free items, ma y cause the transfer of large amounts of data, which m ay result in data costs. Browse Store Check out the latest and most do wnloaded apps, games, and other items recommended for you and your phone.
I f th e a p p y o u ’ v e d o w n l o a d ed d o e s n ’ t s up p o r t y o u r ph o n e l a n g u a g e, the app uses US English by default. If you’ve added more than one phone language a nd th e a p p s u p p o r t s o n e o f t h e m , the app is downloa ded in the supported language.
People & messaging Contact your friends and family, and share your files, such as photos, using your phone. Stay tuned with the latest updates to your socia l networking serv ice s even when on the go. Calls Learn how to make calls on your new phone and talk to your frie nds.
To call a Skype contact, swip e to people , tap the c ontact you want to call, a nd tap . For mo re informa tion on Skype-to-Skype calls, see t he video at www .youtube.com (in Engli sh only). Tip: To save on data co sts, use a Wi - Fi network connection with Skyp e whenever possible.
Silence an incoming call If your phone rings when you don't want to be disturbed, you ca n silence the ringtone for t hat call. I f y o u w a n t t o b e a b l e t o s i l e n c e y o u r p h o n e b y t u r n i n g i t f a c e d o w n , t h e F l i p t o s i l e n c e f e a t u r e must be switched on.

Use visual voice mail Visual voice mail allows you to see a list of your voice messag es and choose which one to play or delete. You may need to contact your ser vice provider t o get this servi ce on your phone. 1. Tap > > se ttings . 2. Switch Visual voicemail to On .
On the start screen, swipe down f rom the top of the screen, and tap ALL SETTINGS > call +SMS filter . Switch Block calls+SMS to On . Check which numbers are blocked Tap blocked numbers . Get notificatio ns about blocked calls or messages Tap advanced , and switch Not ifications to On .
Add or delete a cont act Keep your friends with you. Save their phone numbers, addresses , and other info to the People hub. Tap People , and swipe to conta cts . Add a contact 1. Tap . 2. If you're signed in to several accounts, select the account to which you want to save the contact.
2. In the conversations list, tap a conversation and > . 3. Tap , edit the phone number and phone number type, and tap . 4. Edit other contact details, including the na me, and tap . Search for a contact If y ou need to contact a friend q uickly, you don’t have to scro ll through all you r contacts.

Change your profile pho to You can select your contact card photo on your phone. Pi ck a ph oto you just took or an existing profile p hoto from one of your s ocial networking servi ces. 1. Tap People , and swipe to contacts . 2. At the top of your contacts list, tap your own photo.

Mail You can use your phone to read a nd reply to mail when you're on the go . On t he sta rt scr een, t ap . To send and receive mail, you must be connected to the internet .
Tip: To a dd your Exchan ge wor k mail, contac ts, and calend ar to y our phone, select Exchange as your account, write your work mail address and password, an d ta p sign in .
You can pin several mailboxes to the start screen. For example, dedicate a tile for business mail and anoth er for personal mail. If you link se veral mailbox es into a unified inbox, you can open m ail from all yo ur inboxe s in o ne tile. To rea d your mail, tap th e tile.
Read mail If you’re waiting for important news, you don’t ha ve to wa it un t i l y o u ’ r e a t y o u r d e s k . U s e y o u r phone to read your mails. You can see when you have new mail on the start screen. 1. Tap . 2. In your mailbox, tap the mail.
Forward mail Open the m ail, a nd tap > forward . Delete mail When your mailbox is overflowing, delete some mails to free up sp ace in your phone. 1. In your mailbox, tap to the left of the mails you w ant to delet e. 2. Tap the check boxes that appear next to the mails, and tap .
Camera Why carry a separ ate camera if your phone ha s all you need for capt uring memories ? With your p hone c amera, you ca n easi ly take photos or rec ord vid eos. Get to know Lumia Camera When you want to take out standing photos, Lumia Cam era gives yo u full control.
Camera basics Taking a photo or recording a vi deo is quick and easy, as is sh aring it with your friends. Take a photo Shoot sharp and vibrant photos – capture the best moments in yo ur photo album. Depending on your p hone, the features of the Lumia C amera ap p m ay vary.
Tip: To avoid c amera sh ake, tap > timer , and select a delay. 4. To reframe the selfie, slide you r fingers apa rt or together, an d tap . 5. To enhance your selfie, t ap . 6. To apply a filter to your selfie, tap . Tip: To remove all enhancements and filters fro m the selfie, tap > clear al l effects .
Tip: To quickly select all photos or videos in an album, browse to t he album, and tap > > select all . Save location info to your photos and vid eos If you want to remember exactly wh ere you were when you took a pa rticular photo or video, you can set your phone to auto matically record the location.

Save the best frame Tap CHOOSE BEST FRAM E , tap the slider or swipe left o r right to find the best frames in your video, and tap to save the frame as a separate photo in Camera Roll. You can save as many frames as you want. Add movement to your photos Use the Lumia Cinemagraph app to animate your still photos and make them seem almost alive.
Photos and videos Here's how you vie w, organize, sha re, and edit yo ur photos and videos. Photos h ub The ph otos you've taken or v ideos you've recorded with your pho n e are saved t o the Phot os hub, where you can browse and view them.

Download maps to your phone Save new maps to your phone befo re a journey, so you can b rowse the maps without an internet connection when traveling.
Internet Learn how to create wireless connections and browse the web whi le keep ing your data cos ts down. Define internet connections If your network service provid er charges you on a pay-as-yo u-us e basis, you ma y want to change the W i-Fi and mobil e data settings to reduce yo ur data c osts.
Tip: When using Internet Expl orer, you can save on data usage costs automaticall y. T ap > setting s > Data Sense savings , and select the setting you want. Web browser Catch up on the news, and visit your favorite websites. You can use Internet Explorer 11 in your phone to view web pages on the internet.
Tip: You can also double-tap the screen. Open a new tab When you want to visit several websites at the sam e time, you c an open new br owser tabs and switch between them. Tap Internet Explorer . Tap 6 > . Tip: To open tabs you’re br owsing on other dev ices, tap 6 , and sw ipe left to ot her .

Listen to FM radio Enjoy your favorite FM radio stations on the go. To listen to the radio, you need to connect a compatible headse t to the device. The headset acts as an antenna.
