4 S Do not put pres sur e on the saw at the end of the cut . Apply ing pres s ure can c ause you to lose c ontr ol when t he cu t is c ompleted. S Stop the engine befor e setting the saw down. S Do not operate a c hain s aw t hat is dam- aged, impr operly adjus ted, or not com- pletely and s ecur ely ass embled.
5 S Turn the engine of f and let s aw c ool in a non-combus tible area, not on dry leav es , str aw , paper , etc. Slow ly r emove fuel c ap and refuel unit. S Store the unit and fuel in an area w here fuel vapor s c annot r each s park s or open flames from wat er heaters, electr ic motors or sw itches , furnac es , etc.
6 S K ee p a good, f irm grip on the s aw w ith both hands w hen the engine is runni ng and don’ t let go. A firm gr ip will help y ou r educ e kic k - back and maint ain c ontrol of the s aw . Keep the fingers of your le ft hand enc irc ling and your left thumb under t he front handlebar .

8 Adjus ting Screw Chain Br ake N uts Guide Bar Adjus ting Sc rew - - 1/4 Turn S Lift up the tip of the bar and s ec urely tight- en the chain brake nuts wi th the bar tool. S Rec heck chain tens ion. Chain Br ake Nuts WAR N I N G : If the s aw is operated with a loos e c hain, the chain could jump off the guide bar and r esult in serious injury.
9 START ING A C OLD ENG INE ( or a warm engine a fter running o ut of fuel) NOTE : In the follow ing s teps , when the c ho- ke/f ast idle lev er is pulled out to the full ex - tent, the cor rec t throttle s etting for star ting is set automatic ally.

11 S Be alert to s igns that t he tree is ready to fall: cr ack ing s ounds , wid ening of the felling cut, or mov ement in the u pper bran ches . S As tree s tarts to fall, stop s aw , put it dow n, and get away quic kly on y our planned re- treat path.

13 BAR MAINTENANCE If your s aw c uts t o one s ide, has to be forc ed through the c ut, or been r un with an improper amount of bar lubric ation it may be nec es- sar y to s ervic e y our bar . A worn bar w ill damage your chain and make cutt ing dif fic ult.
