Black plate (14,1) Front Seats (Manually Operated Seats) WARNING Do not modify or replac e the front seats: Modifying or replacing the front seats such as replacing the upholstery or loosening any bolts is dangerous. The front seats contain air bag components essential to the supplemental restraint system.
Black plate (15,1) q Seat Recline WARNING Do not drive with either front seat reclined: Sitting in a reclined position while the vehicle is moving is dangerous because you do not get the full protection from sea t belts. During sudden braking or a collision, you can slide under the lap belt and suffer seriou s internal injuries.
Black plate (16,1) CAUTION When returni ng a rear-reclined seatback to its upright position, make sure you hold on to the seatback with you r other han d while operating the lever. If the sea tback is not supp orted, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury.
Black plate (17,1) CAUTION Ø The seat-b ottom power adjustment is ope rated by motors. Avoid ext ended operation because excessive use can damage the motors. Ø To prevent the battery from running down, avoid using the power adjustme nt when the engine is stopped.
Black plate (18,1) Change the seatback angle by pressing the front or rear side of the reclining switch. Release the switch at the desired position. q Height Adjustment (Driver's Seat) The seat height can be adjusted by moving the switch up or down.

Black plate (21,1) NOTE If any of the following occurs, the seat position activation function cancels: l Press the lock/unlock button while the key is not inserted into the ignition switch or the key slot. l A seat adjustment switch is operated. l The vehicle moves or starts to move.
Black plate (22,1) Rear Seat WARNING Make sure luggage and cargo is secured befor e driving: Not securing cargo while driving is dangerous as it could move or be crushed during sudden braking or a collision and cause injury. Do not drive with the seatback unlocked: All of the seatbacks play an important role in your protection in a vehicle.
Black plate (23,1) q Split-Folding Rear Seatback The seatbacks can be folde d down to provide more space in the trunk. T o fold down the seatbacks WARNING Always remo ve the child-restraint system fro.
Black plate (24,1) q Armrest The rear armrest in the center of the rear seatback can be used (no occupant in the center seat) or placed upright. Armrest Head Restraints Head restraints are intended to help protect you and the passen gers from neck injury .
Black plate (25,1) Rear seat Seat W armer í Press the HI or LO side of the seat warmer switch with the ignition is switche d ON. The indicator on the switch illuminate s and the seat warms up. If a higher temperature is preferred, press the HI side of the switch, and for a lower temperature, press the LO side.
Black plate (26,1) WARNING Ø Be careful when using the seat warmer. The heat from the seat warmer may be too ho t for some people, as indicated below, and could cause a low-temperature burn.
Black plate (27,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (28,1) WARNING Always wea r your seat belt and ma ke sure all occu pants are properly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely dangerous. During a collision, occupants not wearing seat belts could hit someone or things inside the vehicle or even be thrown out of the vehicle.
Black plate (29,1) CAUTION Belt retract ion may become difficult if the belts and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean . For more details abou t cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleani ng the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbin g ” (page 8-57).
Black plate (30,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locking mode to keep the child-res traint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an acciden t. T o e nable seat belt automatic locking mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instructed on the child-restraint system.
Black plate (31,1) Seat Belt q Fastening the Seat Belt 1. Grasp the seat belt tongue. 2. Slowly pull o ut the lap/shoulder belt. Seat belt tongue Lap/shoulder belt 3. Insert the seat belt tongue into the seat belt buck le until you hear a click sound.
Black plate (32,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the seat belt buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully r etract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (33,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passen ger seat belts are equipped with prete nsioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly y ou must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (34,1) Do not modify the compo nents or wiring, or use electronic testing devic es on the pretensioner system: Modifying the componen ts or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electronic testing devices is dangerous.
Black plate (35,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arning Beep If a malfunction is detected in both the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system and the warning light, a warning beep sound will be heard for about 1 minute. After that, the one-minute beep will be repeated every 30 minutes.
Black plate (36,1) WARNING Do not use a seat belt extender unless it is necessar y: Using a seat belt extender when not necessary is danger ous. The seat belt will be too long and not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protec tion and you could be seriously injured.
Black plate (37,1) Seat Belt W arning Light/Beep The seat belt warning ligh t illuminates and a beep sound will be heard if the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition is switched ON. Conditions of operation Condition Result The driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition is switched ON.

Black plate (39,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restraint systems for children smal l enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (40,1) WARNING Use the correct size child -restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accidents and sudden stop s, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-r estraint system dep ending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident .
Black plate (41,1) Do not install a front -facing child-restraint system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, the fo rce of a deployin g air bag could cause serious injury or death to the child.

Black plate (43,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statist ics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child und er 12, and wi th rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clearly unsafe du e to air bags.
Black plate (44,1) 3. T o get the retractor into the automati c locking mode, pull the shoul der belt portion of the seat belt until the entire length of the belt is out of the retractor. 4. Push the child-res traint system firmly into the vehicle seat.

Black plate (50,1) q LA TCH Child-Restraint System Installation Procedure (Rear Outboard Seats) 1. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked . 2. Expand the area between the seat bottom and the seatback slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH lower anchors .

Black plate (53,1) Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) Precautions The front and side suppl emental restraint systems (SRS) include 6 air bags. Y ou can locate the various air bags by the use of “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indicators. These indi cators are visible in the area where the air bags are installed.
Black plate (54,1) WARNING Seat belts must be worn in air bag equipp ed vehicles: Depending only on the air bags for protection during an ac cident is dangerous.
Black plate (55,1) Sit in the center of the seat and wear seat belts pro perly: Sitting too close to the side air bag m odules or placing hands on them is extremely dangerous. The side air bags inflate with great force and speed directl y out of the outboard side of the front seat and expand along the front doo r on the side the car is hit.
Black plate (56,1) Do not touch the compo nents of the supplemental restraint system after the air bags have inflat ed: Touching th e components of the suppleme ntal restraint system after the air bags have inflated is dangerous. Immediately after inflation, they are very hot.

Black plate (59,1) How the Air Bags W ork q How the Front Air Bags W ork When air bag crash sensor s detect a front al impact of great er than moderate force, an electrical current is sent to the inflators. Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the infl ation, the front air bags quickly deflate.
Black plate (60,1) Front passenger seat weight sensors Y our vehicle is equipped with a front passenger seat weight sensors as a part of the supplemental restraint syst em. (page 2-34). These sensors are located under both of the front passen ger seat rails.

Black plate (65,1) l Frontal offset impact to the vehicle may not provide the stopping force necessary for air bag deployment. l Rear-ending or running under a truck's tail gate may not provi de the stopping force necess ary for air bag deployment.
Black plate (66,1) l Side impacts involving trees or poles can cause severe cosmetic damage but may not have enough impact force to activate the side and curta in air bags. l V ehicle roll-over may not provi de enough side force to deploy the side and curta in air bags.
Black plate (67,1) The diagnostic module continuously monitors the system's readiness. This begins when the ignition is switch ed ON and conti nues while the vehicle is being driven.

Black plate (75,1) q Advanced Key Maintenance CAUTION Ø Make sure the battery is insta lled with the correct pole facing upward. Battery leaka ge could occur if it is not installed correctly. Ø When repla cing the battery, be careful no t to bend the electrical terminals or get oil on them.
Black plate (76,1) 3. Remove the battery by pressing its edge. 4. Install a new battery (CR2025 or equivalent) with the positive pole facing down. 5. Close the cover . 6. Black plate (77,1) Operation Using Advanced Keyless Functions q Operational Range The system operates only when the driver is in the vehicle or within operational range while the advanced key is being carried.

Black plate (79,1) T o unlock Driver's door handle T o unlock the driver's door, touch the sensor area on the inside of the driver's door handle .
Black plate (80,1) l (Auto re-lock function) After unlocking the doors using the sensor on the inside of the door handle, all the doors will automatically lock if any of the following operations are not done within about 30 seconds. If your vehicle has a theft-deterrent system, the hazar d warning lights will flash for confirmation.
Black plate (81,1) Ignition po sitions Each time the push butto n start is press ed, the ignitio n switches in the order of off, ACC, and ON. Pressing the push button start again from ON switches the ignition off. Indicator light Indicator light (ACC) Indicator light (ON) NOTE l The order in which the ignition is switched can be changed.
Black plate (82,1) ON This is the normal runni ng position after the engine is started. The indicator light (ON) turns off. (The indicator light (ON) illuminates when the ignition is switched ON and the engine is not running.) The warning lights (except brakes) should be inspected before the engine is started (page 5-43).
Black plate (83,1) CAUTION If the KEY warning light (red) illuminates, and the push button start ind icator light (red) illuminates, this could indicate a problem with the engin e starting system and th e inability to start the engine or switch the igniti on to ACC or ON.

Black plate (85,1) NOTE l Leave the auxiliary key in the key slot while the engine is running. l When leaving the vehicle, remove the auxiliary key from the key slot and the vehicle. A thief does not need your advanced key to steal the vehicle if the thief has your auxiliary key .
Black plate (86,1) Operation Using Advanced Key Functions q Keyless Entry System This system uses the more traditi onal keyless en try buttons to remo tely lock and unlock the doors and opens the trunk lid, and opens the power window s and the moonroof.
Black plate (87,1) Lock button T o lock the doors, press the lock b utton. A beep sound will be heard once and the hazard warning lights will flash once. T o confirm that all doors have been locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are closed and locked, the horn will sound.
Black plate (88,1) NOTE (Auto re-lock function) After unlocking with the transmitter , All doors will automatically lock and the hazard warning light will flash if any of the following operations ar e not performed within about 30 seconds. If your vehicle has a theft-deterrent system, the hazard warning lights will flash for confirmation.
Black plate (89,1) Advanced Key Suspend Function If an advanced key is left in the vehicle, the functions of the advan ced key left in the vehicle are temporarily suspended to prevent theft of the vehicl e. The following are inoperable: l Starting the engine using the push button star t.
Black plate (90,1) q Advanced Key Removed from V ehicle W arning Beep Under the following conditions, a beep sound will be heard and the KEY war ning light (red) will flash continuously when the push button start has not been switched off to noti fy the driver that the advanced key has been remo ved.
Black plate (91,1) l The advanced key is placed in areas where it is difficult for the system to detect the signal (page 3-7). l A key from another manufacturer similar to the advanced key is in the operational range.
Black plate (92,1) When W arning Indicator/Beep is Activated Under the following conditions, warning beeps are heard and a warning/indi cator light in the instrum ent cluster illuminates to noti fy the driver of improper operation of the advanced key to prevent theft of the vehicle (page 3-19).
Black plate (93,1) Keys WARNING Do not leave the key in your vehicle with child ren and keep them in a place where your children will not find or play with them: Leaving children in a vehicle with the key is dangerous. This could resu lt in someone being badly injured or even killed.
Black plate (94,1) Key extend/retract method (Retractable type key) T o extend the key , press the release button. T o retract the key , rotate it into the holder while press ing the release butt on. Keyless Entry System í This system remotely locks and unlocks the doors and opens the trunk lid, and opens the power windows and the moonroof.
Black plate (95,1) NOTE l The keyless entry system is designed to operate up to about 2.5 m (8 ft) from the center of the vehicle, but this may vary due to local conditions. l The system does not operate when the key is in the ignition switch. l Doors can be locked by pressing the lock button while any other door is open.
Black plate (96,1) Lock button T o lock the doors, press the lock b utton. T o confirm that all doors have been locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are closed and locked, the horn will sound. The system can be set not to sound the horn.
Black plate (97,1) Panic but ton If you witness from a distance someone attempting to break into or damag e your vehicle, p ressing the panic button will activate the vehicle' s alarm. NOTE The panic button will work whether any door or the trunk lid is open or closed.
Black plate (98,1) 2. Insert a smal l flathead screwdriver into the slot and push the tab to remove the key from the transmitter . Ta b 3. Insert a smal l flathead screwdriver into the slot and gently pry open the transmitter . 4. Press the tab outward and remove the battery slowly and carefully using a small flathead screw driver .
Black plate (99,1) 7. Align the key with the transmitter as shown in the figure, and insert the key until a click sound is heard. CAUTION Insert the key into the tran smitter securely until a click sound is heard. If it is not inserted securely , it could detach from the transmitter.
Black plate (100,1) q Locking, Unlocking with Key The driver's door can be locked/unlocked with the key . Turn the key toward the front to lock, toward the back to unlock.
Black plate (101,1) T o lock any door with the door-lock knob from the outside, push the door-lock knob to the lock position and close the door . This does not operate the other door locks. Door-lock knob NOTE l (With advanced key) The driver's door cannot be locked using the door-lock knob from the outside.
Black plate (102,1) Locking, unlocking with door-lock switch All doors lock automatically when lock side is pressed. They all unlock when unlock side is pressed.
Black plate (103,1) T runk Lid WARNING Never allo w a per son to ride in the trunk: Allowing a person to ride in the trunk is danger ous. In addition, the person in the trunk could be seriou sly injured or killed during sudden braking or a collision.
Black plate (104,1) Opening the trunk lid with the transmitter (with retractable type key) The trunk lid can be opened by op erating the keyless entry system transmitter, refer to Keyless Entry System (page 3-24). Opening the trunk lid with the remote release button Push the release button.
Black plate (105,1) 4. Slide the insi de trunk release lever in the direction of the arrow. After perfor ming this emergency meas ure, have the vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible. Closing the trunk lid Use both hands to push the trunk lid down until the lock snaps shut.
Black plate (106,1) Inside T runk Release Lever Y our vehicle is equipped with an inside trunk release lever that provides a means of escape for children and adults in the event they become locked inside the trunk.
Black plate (107,1) q Opening the T runk Lid from the Inside Slide the inside trunk release lever in the direction of the arrow . The lever is made of material that will glow for hours in the darkness of the trunk following a brief exposure to ambient light.
Black plate (108,1) q Operating the Front Power Windows NOTE l Each passenger power window can be operated with each door switch when the power window lock switch on the driver's door is in the unlocked position (page 3-40).
Black plate (109,1) NOTE (POWER WINDOW RESET PROCEDURE) If the battery was disconnected during vehicle maintenance, or for other reasons such as a switch continues to be operated after the window is fully open/close, the power windows will not fully open and close automatically .
Black plate (110,1) q Operating the Rear Power Windows The power windows may be operat ed when the power window lock switch on the driver's door is in the unlocked position. The rear power windows may be opened or closed using the power window master control switch es on the driver's door.
Black plate (11 1,1) q Opening/Closing the Power Windows and the Moonroof from Outside The front power windows and the moonroof can be opened or closed from outside the vehicle after the doors and the trunk lid are closed.
Black plate (112,1) WARNING Use the remote auto-window and the auto-moonroof function only when you can see the vehicle and it is in a secure area: Do not let children play with your keys.
Black plate (113,1) With key 1. Insert the key in the drive r's door key cylinder . 2. Rotate the ke y clockwise and hold unti l the window s and the moonroof are completely open. After the doors are unlocked, the windows fully open automatically .
