7 Nº433 Power Amplifi er Installation Considerations The Nº433 requires special care du ring installation to ensure optimal performance. Pay particul ar attention to the precauti ons included in this section a nd to other precautions included throughout this owne r’ s manual.
8 Mark Levinson • DO NOT place the Nº433 on a thick rug or carpet or cover the Nº4 33 wi th a cl ot h, as t hi s m ig ht p re ve nt p ro pe r c ool in g. I f t he Nº433 is placed on the floor , use a thick piece of tempered glass to provide firm support and proper ventilation.
9 Nº433 Power Amplifi er Power Requir ements When shipped, t he Nº433 is configured for 10 0V , 120V , 220V , 23 0V or 240V AC power ope ration at 50 or 6 0Hz based on the count ry for which it is manufa ctured. Before operating the Nº433, make sure the ~ac mains connector label indicates the correct operating voltage for the current lo cation.
10 Mark Levinson power outage occurs. Power is not disconnected when th e Nº433 is in standby or sleep mode . When power returns, the Nº433 wi ll require a brief warm-u p and break-in period (no t the full 300 ho urs). It is recommended that you allow the Nº433 a nd other audio co mponents to stabi lize for a fe w minutes.
11 Nº433 Power Amplifi er Special Design Featur es Thank you for pu rchas ing the Nº4 33 Power Amplifier . While this amplifier is straightforward in everyday use, it includes several design features that are responsible for its ou tstanding performance.
12 Mark Levinson Extensive Pr otection The Nº433 is designed to shut itse lf down if it senses any of a number of fault conditions that could cause damage to itself or to associated loudspeakers.
13 Nº433 Power Amplifi er Fr ont Panel The numbers in the front-panel illustrat ion shown below corre- spond with the numbere d items that appear below . 1. Indicator LED Indicates the operating state of the Nº43 3 and provides diagnostic informatio n when a fault con dition occurs.
14 Mark Levinson 2. Power Button Powers the Nº43 3 on and off when the power cord is connected to the ~ac mains co nnector and an electrical outlet. When the Nº43 3 is powered on, pressi ng and releasing the power button disconnects power from the ~ac mains connect or and powers t he Nº433 off.
15 Nº433 Power Amplifi er Rear Panel The numbers in the rear- panel illu stration shown below correspond with the numbered items that appear in the text below . Caution! Never make or break connections to the Nº433 unless it and all associated compon ents are powe re d off and disconnected fr om electrical outlet s.
16 Mark Levinson Caution! NEVER connect power -amplifier outputs to any component other than a loudspeaker . NEVER short cir cuit po wer -amp lifier outputs NEVER connect power -amplifier outputs to another power amplifier’ s outputs. For best performa nce, use high-quality loudspeak er cables.
17 Nº433 Power Amplifi er 4. Balanced Input Provides left, center and righ t-channel audio input. One XLR connector per channel is available to accept balanced input signals from an associated preamplifier . For best performa nce, use balanced connectio ns whenever po ssible.

One 1/ 8-inch min i-jack lab eled trig ger in is available to receive 12 or 5V DC signals from a connec ted component, and one 1/8 -inch mini-jack l abeled trigger out is available to pass signals to a connected power amplifier .
19 Nº433 Power Amplifi er 9. ~ac mains connector Provides power to the Nº433 thro ugh the supplied power cord when the supplied power cord is conn ected to the ~ac mains connector and the electrical outlet. One IEC-standard AC mains receptacle labele d ~ac main s is ava ilable.
20 Mark Levinson Linking Linking is av ailable for a ll Mark Levins on compone nts that offer Link or communication ports, including master , slave in , slave out , , input and output communication ports.

23 Nº433 Power Amplifi er T o create a slave chain that includes the Nº433: 1. Make sure the Nº433 a nd all associated components are powered off. 2. Connect the input commu nicatio n port on the first power amplifier to the or sla ve out communica tion port on th e preamplifier .

No audio and the fr ont-panel indicator LED is blinking rapidly , r emaining lit most of the time. •A power-r elated fault is presen t (~ac main s voltage is too high or too low ). • Power cycle the Nº433 with the power button , w aiting at least five minutes between powering t he Nº433 off and on.
28 Mark Levinson 8. The amplifier keeps powering off. •A fault conditi on may be present at the input (e.g., a DC signal from the preamplifier) or the output (e.g., short- ci rcuited loudspeaker wires). If this occurs: a. Power the Nº433 off with the power button .
