6 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION CA UTION: • Alwa ys be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged bef ore adjusting or checking function on the tool. Selecting the cutting action This tool can be operated with an orbital or a straight line (up and down) cutting action.
7 Speed adjusting dial The tool speed can be infinitely adjusted between 500 and 3,100 strokes per min ute by turning the adjusting dial. Higher speed is obtained when the dial is turned in the direction of number 6; low er speed is obtained when it is tur ned in the direction of number 1.
8 T o install the blade, loosen the bolt countercloc kwise on the blade holder with the he x wrench. With the blade teeth f acing forw ard, inser t the blade into the blade holder as f ar as it will go . Make sure that the back edge of the blade fits into the roller .
9 Dust cover CA UTION: • Alwa ys wear saf ety goggles ev en when operating the tool with the dust cov er lowered. Lower the dust co ver to pre vent chips from flying. Ho wev er , when making be vel cuts, r aise it all the way . Anti-splintering device (optional accessory) F or splinter-free cuts, the anti-splintering device can be used.
10 Bevel cutting CA UTION: • Alwa ys be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged befo re tilting the base. • Raise the dust cov er all the wa y before making be vel cuts. With the base tilted, you can mak e bev el cuts at any angle between 0 ° and 45 ° (left or right).
11 Cutouts Cutouts can be made with either of two methods A or B . A) Boring a starting hole F or inter nal cutouts without a lead-in cut from an edge, pre-drill a star ting hole 12 mm (1/2 ” ) or more in diameter . Inser t the bl ade into this hole to star t your cut.
12 Dust extraction Clean cutting operations can be perf or med b y connecting this tool to a Makita vacuum cleaner . Inser t the hose of the vacuum cleaner into the hole at the rear of the tool. Lo wer the dust cov er before operation. NO TE: • Dust e xtraction cannot be performed when making bev el cuts.
13 2. Circular cuts When cutting circles or arcs of 170 mm (6 - 11/16 ” ) or less in radius, install the rip f ence as follo ws. Inser t the rip fence into the rectangular hole on the side of the base with the f ence guide facing up . Inser t the cir- cular guide pin through either of the two holes on the f ence guide.
