18 Speaker Setup (cont’ d), Remote Contr ol Setup Putting Batteries in the Remote Contr ol 1 Remo ve the battery compar tment lid on the bottom of the remote contr ol by pressing the tab , then lifting the lid. 2 Place two AA batteries inside the batter y compartment with their + and – ends aligned as indicated.
Fir st-time Setup 19 Befor e turning on your System, make sur e batteries are in the remote contr ol and the TV and System ar e connected corr ectly . Y ou cannot program TV channels at the System if y ou are using a Cable Box or a Satellite Receiv er .

28 Channel Setup Although your System ma y automatically memorize the channels you receiv e when you turn it on for the first time, you can set up the channels again. 1 Press VCR, then press DISC/MENU so the main men u appears. 2 Press o or p to select CHANNEL SET UP .

The COUNT display will a ppear for five seconds. After five seconds, only the real-time ta pe counter will appear .
34 Videotape Recording Read and follow the steps belo w to record a tele vision pr ogram onto a videotape. Before y ou begin, make sur e the System is in VCR mode. Press VCR so the red VCR light appears on the front of the System. 1 T urn on the TV and set it to channel 3 or 4 or the Video In channel.
Recor ding One Channel/W atching Another 35 1 Press VCR, then press REC I to r ecord the curr ent TV channel. Details are on page 34. 2 Press VCR/TV once to put the System in TV position. 3 Use the TV remote contr ol to select the channel you want to watch at the TV .
36 One-T ouch Recor ding One-T ouch Recording (O TR) lets you set a timed r ecording 30 minutes to eight hours long. Befor e you begin: ● Place the System in VCR mode . Press VCR so the red VCR light appears on the fr ont of the System. ● Select a recor ding speed (SP , SLP) with the MODE/SPEED button.
Rerecor ding (T ape Duplication) 37 1 Mak e the connections shown abo ve. 2 System 1 will pla y your tape. Put a prerecor ded tape into the cassette compartment of System 1. Press VCR to put the unit in VCR mode if necessar y . 3 System 2 will recor d your tape.

D VD to Videotape Duplication 41 Follow the steps belo w to copy a D VD to a videotape. This will be possible only if the D VD is not copy pr otected. Befor e you begin: ● Put a videotape in the cassette compartment. Make sur e the tape ’ s recor d tab is intact and the tape is long enough to recor d the DV D.
42 Repeat Play Follow the steps belo w to play a videota pe repeatedly . 1 Press VCR, then press DISC/MENU . 2 Press o or p to select AUT O REPEA T . 3 Press B so ON appears next to AUT O REPEA T . T ape pla y will begin immediately . AUT O REPEA T B will appear on the TV scr een briefly .
T ape Counter 43 Follow the steps belo w to reset the VCR ’ s real-time tape counter to zero at a ta pe location you want to ref er to later . 1 Press VCR, then pla y , fast forwar d, or r ewind a ta pe to the location that y ou would lik e to ref er to later .
44 Time Search, Inde x Search Time Sear ch Follo w the steps below to sear ch forward or backward on a ta pe a specific length of time. There must be a ta pe in the cassette compartment. 1 Press VCR, then press SEARCH MODE until the TIME SEARCH screen a ppears.

Multi-Channel T elevision Sound 47 Y our System can play ta pes recorded in Hi-Fi (high fidelity) ster eo, which pr oduces a crisp , clear sound fr om the left and right audio channels. Y our System also can pla y tapes recor ded in a second audio (usually , that means your pr ogram is recor ded in a second language).
48 Hi-Fi Stereo Multi-Channel T elevision Sound system br oadcasts are r ecorded in Hi-Fi stereo . T o play in Hi-Fi ster eo the tapes recor ded in Hi-Fi stereo , follow these steps. 1 Press VCR, then press DISC/MENU . 2 Press o or p to select AUDIO OUT .
Digital Sound, Surround Sound 49 Surr ound Sound For pr oper Surround Sound, connect the speakers and Subw oofer corr ectly . Details are on page 17. The Center and Rear (Surr ound) speak ers only operate when Surround is On. The Discs or TV pr ograms must be r ecorded or broadcast in Sur r ound Sound.
Set the dela y time for the Center and Rear (Surr ound) speakers to suit your listening position. If y ou usually sit closer to the Center speaker than the Fr ont speak ers, increase the Center dela y time to improv e the Surr ound Sound effect.
Delay Time (cont ’ d) 51 5 Press p to select 5.1CH, then press OK. 6 DELA Y TIME will be selected. Pr ess OK. 7 Press o or p to select CENTER or SURROUND (for the REAR speak ers), then press OK. 8 Press o or p to select a dela y time in milliseconds, then press OK.
Y ou can test the volume balance of each speak er with this procedure. 1 Press D VD to put the System in D VD mode. The red D VD light will appear on the fr ont of the System. Pr ess ST OP C to stop Disc pla y if necessar y . 2 Press SETUP/PR OG. The QUICK SETUP scr een will appear .
Speaker Balance (cont ’ d) 53 6 Press p to select BALANCE, then press OK. 7 TEST will be selected. Press OK. The test sound will come from each speak er (in the order indicated in the menu) so y ou can check the volume of each speak er . 8 Press OK to stop the test.
54 D VD Disc Menus D VDs contain menus that describe the contents of the D VD or allow you to customize D VD pla yback. For example , the menu ma y offer choices for subtitle languages, special featur es, or scene selection. T o use the D VD Disc menu and select pla yback features, follow these steps.
1 Press D VD to put the System in D VD mode . The red D VD light will appear on the fr ont of the System. 2 During pla yback, pr ess FF g or REW h . Use FF g for a forwar d search.
56 Title/Chapter Playback, Time Playback Title/Chapter Pla yback 1 With a D VD in the System, press D VD . 2 During D VD pla yback, press SEARCH MODE until CH (for Chapter) or TT (for Title) appears on the TV screen. The number of a vailable Titles or Chapters will a ppear at the right ( /4, for example).

Pr ogr ams , Random Play 63 Pr ograms Y ou may determine the or der in which Audio CD T racks will play . Y ou also can pr ogram MP3 or JPEG files to pla y in a special order , including those on a Picture CD . T o set a Pr ogram, follow these steps. 1 Press D VD to make sur e the System is in D VD mode.
• The default pass word is 4737. If you forg et your password, press Number buttons 4, 7, 3, 7 at step 4. Y ou will be prompted to enter a new f our-digit passwor d. Use the Number buttons to enter a new four-digit passwor d, then press OK. P ARENT AL LEVEL will reset to ALL.
P arental Le vels 65 Follow these steps to set the rating le vel for y our D VDs. D VDs whose ratings exceed the lev el you set will not pla y . 1 Press D VD to put the System in D VD mode. The red D VD light will be on. Press ST OP C to stop Disc pla yback if necessar y .
66 Audio Language , Stereo Sound Audio Languag e Y ou can select a language for D VDs during pla yback if multiple languages are a vailable . 1 Press D VD to put the System in D VD mode. The red D VD light will appear on the fr ont of the System. 2 During D VD pla yback, press A UDIO/BAND repeatedly to choose one of the a vailable languages.
MP3/JPEG/Picture CD Playback 67 The D VD Pla yer will pla y MP3 or JPEG files that you r ecord and finalize on a CD-R W (Compact Disc-Rewritable) or CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable). These Discs ma y contain pictures in a JPEG format or audio T racks in an MP3 format.

Selecting Radio Stations 75 1 Press TUNER to select T uner mode . The red TUNER light will appear on the fr ont of the System. The current radio frequency (station n umber) will appear on the displa y panel. 2 Press A UDIO/BAND to select FM or AM. 3 Press { or B to select a preset radio station.
Manual Pr esetting If Automatic Presetting does not memorize all the stations y ou want, you can pr eset individual stations manually . 1 Press SKIP i /CH o or SKIP j /CH p to select the station y ou want to designate as a preset station. 2 Press SETUP/PR OG.
