Hooking Up the TV/D VD 9 ANT . IN OUT ANT . Connect an RF coaxial cable (not supplied) to the OUT jack on the Cable Box/ Satellite Receiver and to the ANT . jack on the TV/D VD . Connect a Cable TV signal or an antenna to the ANT . jack. 1 Hook up y our TV/D VD using one of the connections sho wn.

1 2 W atching TV This unit selects a vailable TV channels automatically when y ou connect an Antenna or Cable TV signal to it. T o r eset TV channels, see pages 18 and 19. If y ou are using a Cable Bo x or Satellite Receiver , you do not need to set channels at the TV/D VD .

Rear P anel 17 COAXIAL ANT. CO AXIAL DIGIT AL A UDIO OUT jack Connect this jack to a Digital Stereo using a coaxial digital audio cable (not supplied). Use this connection if the Stereo has Dolb y Digital compatibility and has a coaxial digital audio in jack.
Menu Langua ge This affects the language of the TV/D VD’ s setup menus and on-screen displa y terms. This does not alter the language of TV programming or discs. ● Befor e you begin, press SELECT to put the TV/D VD in TV mode. 1 Press SETUP . 2 Press ▲ or ▼ to select LANGU A GE.
•T o confirm that a channel has been added or deleted, press CH. ▲ or ▼ to see if you can or cannot select the channel. Only memorized/added channels can be selected with CH. ▲ or ▼ . Use the Number buttons to select deleted channels. • If you connected an Antenna to the TV/D VD , channels 2-69 will be a vailable to add or delete.
20 Picture Contr ol 1 Press PICTURE so the first Pictur e Contr ol appears. 2 Within 5 seconds, press K or L to select BRIGHT , CONTRAST , COLOR, TINT or SHARPNESS.
Use the Sleep Timer to program the TV/D VD to shut off in a certain amount of time . ● Befor e you begin, press SELECT to put the TV/D VD in TV mode. 1 Press SLEEP r epeatedly until y our desired amount of time appears on the scr een with SLEEP . Each press of SLEEP will incr ease the time by 30 minutes.
22 Closed Captions F ollow the steps belo w to select Closed Captions for TV programming. Not all TV pr ograms and commercials ha ve Closed Captions or all types of Closed Captions (second language, half-screen text, etc .). If Closed Captioning is not broadcast, you cannot r eceive it.

MP AA Rating Settings Y ou can block TV channel viewing accor ding to the Motion Picture Association of America ratings. T o do so , follow these steps. ● Befor e you begin, press SELECT to put the TV/D VD in TV mode. 1 Press SETUP . 2 Press ▲ or ▼ to select V -CHIP SET UP .

Title Menus Some D VDs hav e a title menu, which lists the titles a vailable on the D VD . Use the title menu to pla y a specific title. 1 Press TITLE. The title menu will appear . If the featur e is not a vailable , ma y appear on the TV screen. Or if the D VD only has a main menu as described abov e , it ma y appear when you pr ess TITLE.

34 Markers Use Mark ers to remember y our fa vorite places on a D VD , an Audio CD or a Video CD (without PBC). T o set the Mark ers, follow these steps. ● Befor e you begin, press SELECT to put the TV/D VD in D VD mode . Then, press PLA Y B or OPEN/CLOSE A to activate D VD mode .
• With some D VDs, you must select a subtitle language in the disc menu. • If the desired language does not a ppear after pr essing SUBTITLE sev eral times, the disc does not ha ve subtitles in that language. • Opening the disc tra y will cancel your subtitle setting.

42 MP3/JPEG Playback The TV/D VD will pla y MP3 and JPEG files that you r ecord and finalize on a CD-R W (Compact Disc-Rewritable) or CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable). These discs ma y contain pictures in a JPEG f ormat or audio tracks in an MP3 format.

• If the D VD’ s default settings for audio and subtitle are the same language, the subtitles ma y not show unless y ou turn them on. • Use the AUDIO and SUBTITLE buttons to quickly select audio and subtitles a vailable on the DV D. Details are on pages 35 and 37.

• Dolby Digital sound must be a vailable on the D VD . •Y ou can adjust Dolby Digital in the QUICK SETUP menu that a ppears when y ou first pr ess SETUP twice. With QUICK selected, press ENTER. Press p to select DOLBY DIGIT AL. Press ENTER to choose BITSTREAM or PCM.
Pa r ental P asswor d 49 The Parental f eature pr ev ents viewing of D VDs that exceed your rating limits. This featur e will not limit viewing if the D VD is not rated or coded. Check your D VDs and settings before letting childr en access the TV/D VD .
• The default passw ord is 4737. If you f orget your passw ord, press Number buttons 4, 7, 3, 7 at step 4. Y ou will be prompted to enter a ne w f our -digit passwor d. Use the Number buttons to enter a new four -digit passw ord, then press ENTER. P ARENT AL LEVEL will reset to ALL.
Pa r ental Lev els 51 F ollow these steps to set the rating le vel f or your D VDs. D VDs whose ratings exceed the level y ou set will not pla y . ● Befor e you begin, press SELECT to put the TV/D VD in D VD mode . Then, press PLA Y B or OPEN/CLOSE A to activate D VD mode .
• When you try to pla y a D VD whose rating exceeds the lev el y ou set, an on-scr een message will indicate the D VD cannot pla y . Remove the D VD , then set P ARENT AL LEVEL to ALL . Reload the D VD and begin pla yback. Some D VDs ma y let y ou enter your 4-digit passw ord to begin pla yback.
