Magellan NA V 6000 10 P ress the MARK key . A MARK CURSOR POSITION window is displayed. F rom this window you can change the name, type, coor- dinates, and description for this waypoint. F or this example, the information is acceptable. P ress DONE . The map now resembles the one to the left with the new waypoint displayed.

Magellan NA V 6000 17 are constantly updating and contain the information neces- sary to guide you to your destination. Y ou can customize the NA V 1, NA V 2 and POINTER scr eens to display the navigation information you find most useful (See customizing).

Magellan NA V 6000 19 Map Screen F rom the SA T ST A TUS screen, press NXT PG to access the Map Screen. The Map screen can also be accessed by the MAP/ CTR Key from any screen. When the Map Screen is viewed for the first time after the unit is turned on, the map always shows the cursor location before the unit was turned off .
Magellan NA V 6000 20 P ress the HIDE softkey to temporarily remo ve the infor- mation window , extending the map to the full screen size. P ress any softkey to r edisplay the information window . When the unit computes a fix, the present position will be represented by a boat icon.
Magellan NA V 6000 21 Using the Cursor Key on the Map Screen P ress the CURSOR KEY to activate and mo ve the cursor on the Map screen. The cursor is repr esented by a + . The information window displays the bearing and distance from the present position (boat) to the cursor location (+), the coordinates of the cursor , COG and SOG.
Magellan NA V 6000 22 Plotter Mode Plotter mode allows you to go wher e your chart does not pro- vide detailed navigation information by displaying a LA T/ LON grid without background cartography .
Magellan NA V 6000 23 Viewing W aypoint and Navaid Attributes When the cursor is moved o ver a waypoint icon, the infor- mation window displays TO: waypoint name, scale, bearing and distance to the waypoint, message (if any) and the coor- dinates.
Magellan NA V 6000 24 T o view additional information on the Objects shown in the QUICK INFO windo w , press ALLINF and a full-screen win- dow opens, showing a list of the objects under the cursor . When the ALLINF softkey is pressed, the objects and their attributes appear .
Magellan NA V 6000 25 NA V 1 Screen F rom the Map Screen, press NX T PG to access the NA V 1 screen. At the top of the NA V 1 screen is the destination waypoint (if any).
Magellan NA V 6000 26 Customizing the Nav 1 Screen In addition to the navigation parameters sho wn, you may select SO A, XTE, ETE, BRG, COG, SOG, CT S, TRN, ET A, VMG, STR, DST and a blank field. P ress the CUST OM softkey to activate the highlight. U se the RIGHT/LEFT ARR O Ws of the CURSOR KEY to change the navigation parameter as desired.
Magellan NA V 6000 27 Pointer Screen F rom the NA V 2 screen, press NX T PG to access the P ointer screen. The P ointer screen pro vides a graphic compass in combina- tion with a CDI and customizable N av information. At the top of the screen the name of the destination waypoint (if any) is displayed.
Magellan NA V 6000 28 W aypoints The W aypoints function allows you to stor e in memor y up to 500 positions, which can be used to build routes by which you navigate. W aypoints can be created, viewed, edited, deleted, moved, and listed by proximity to the cursor or pr esent position.
Magellan NA V 6000 29 Saving the Current Position Fix as a Waypoint While the unit is computing fixes, fr om any root screen, press the MARK key . The MARK GPS POSITION window appears.
Magellan NA V 6000 30 Coordinates: The coor dinates may be modified in the man- ner described. Y ou can press the C ursor or GPS softkey to automatically assign the cursor position or current GPS posi- tion fix to the coordinate field. The header of the MARK POSITION window tells you which coor dinates are displayed, CURSOR GPS or USER ENTERED.
Magellan NA V 6000 31 U se the CURSOR KEY to highlight the waypoint you wish to view and press the VIE W softkey . The display returns to the Map screen, with the selected waypoint in the center of the map, under the cursor .
Magellan NA V 6000 32 If the name field is selected, only the waypoint shown is de- leted. If the type field is selected, all waypoints with the selected icon type will be deleted. If ALL is selected, all waypoints will be deleted. Highlight YES to delete or NO to exit and press ENTER .
Magellan NA V 6000 33 The NA V 6000 allows you to cr eate and store up to twenty- five multi-leg routes, which can be activated, deactiv ated, viewed, reversed, edited, copied or deleted. Creating a GOTO Route Using the Waypoint List P ress GO T O from any screen.
Magellan NA V 6000 34 Creating a GOTO Route Using the Nearest List P ress GO T O from any screen. The Map screen appears and the active softkeys are LIST , NEARST , FIND and MOB. T o select from a list of the nearest waypoints, press the NEARST softkey .
Magellan NA V 6000 35 Creating a GOTO Route to the Cursor Position P ress GO T O from any screen. The Map screen appears. M ove the cursor ov er the desired destination point and pr ess ENTER . If no waypoint exists at the cursor position, the MARK CURSOR POSITION window appears.
Magellan NA V 6000 36 P ress Q UIT . The Exit GO TO confirmation windo w appears. Highlight YES and press ENTER . The GO TO is deleted. Multi-Leg Routes The NA V 6000 allows you to cr eate multi-leg routes, which can be activated, deactivated, r eversed, edited, copied or de- leted.
Magellan NA V 6000 37 P ress ENTER and a window displaying the waypoint list appears. U se the CURSOR KEY to select the starting waypoint of the route and pr ess ENTER . The selected waypoint appears in the first field. The highlight mov es down to the next line.
Magellan NA V 6000 38 The display remains on the R oute list screen. P ress Q UIT twice to exit the Routes function. Reversing a Route from the List F rom any r oot screen, pr ess the R OUTES, LIST softkeys. U se the CURSOR KEY to highlight the route you wish to reverse and pr ess the REVERS softkey .
Magellan NA V 6000 39 The cursor must be in close proximity to the course line in order for the INSER T softkey to be active on the screen. P ress the INSER T softkey , then use the CURSOR KEY to mov e to the exact position you want to insert an existing or to-be-created waypoint.
Magellan NA V 6000 40 Removing a Waypoint from a Route F rom any root screen, press R OUTES , LIST softkeys. U se the CURSOR KEY to highlight the route from which you wish to remo ve a waypoint and press ENTER . T o edit the active route a shortcut is to press R OUTES , EDIT .
Magellan NA V 6000 41 press the DONE softkey . Pr ess QUIT to exit Route Edit. The waypoint you cr eated or selected at the cursor posi- tion has been added to the end of the route. Appending a Waypoint to the End of a Route Manually F rom any r oot screen, pr ess the R OUTES , LIST softkeys.
Magellan NA V 6000 42 N ow use the CURSOR KEY to mo ve the cursor to the position to which you wish to mo ve the waypoint and press ENTER . If the waypoint being mo ved is at the start of the route, as you mo ve the CURSOR KEY , the distance and bearing from the cursor to the next waypoint is updated continuously .
Magellan NA V 6000 43 P ress the ACTVTE softkey . If a leg is activated, an A appears next to the leg. The ACTVTE softkey then changes to DEA CTV . Activating a leg of an inactive r oute automatically activates the route itself. Any multi-leg r oute which was previously ac- tive is deactivated.
Magellan NA V 6000 44 Creating a Backtrack Route When T rack History is on, the unit drops “bread crumbs ” at every travelled inter val as set under T rack History . Activation of backtrack automatically creates a r oute that starts from the last point recorded to the first point in track history memory .
Magellan NA V 6000 45 Menu Functions The NA V 6000 offers various menu functions that ar e acces- sible from any of the navigation screens by pr essing the MENU softkey . F rom the FUNCTION MENU you can access the W aypoints list, System Setup, Alarms, M ap Setup, T rack His- tory , T rip Planning, Sun/M oon, Simulation mode, and M emor y Reset.
Magellan NA V 6000 46 If the local time displayed on the root scr eens is incorrect you may enter the correct local time by highlighting Local 12-H our or Local 24-Hour and pressing ENTER. A windo w appears that allows setting the correct time. P ress ENTER when done.
Magellan NA V 6000 47 Selecting Map Datum The NA V 6000 allows you to select from 73 map datums. All information displayed on the map screen is based on W GS84.
Magellan NA V 6000 48 Distance U nits F rom the UNITS menu, use the CURSOR KEY to high- light Dist and press ENTER . U se the CURSOR KEY to highlight S tatute Miles, N autical Miles, or Kilo- meters, and press ENTER. Default setting: N autical Miles Speed U nits F rom the UNITS menu, use the CURSOR KEY to high- light S peed and pr ess ENTER .
Magellan NA V 6000 49 Setting NMEA Baud Rate F rom the DA T A POR T menu, use the CURSOR KEY to highlight Baud Rate and pr ess ENTER . The baud rate can be set to 1200, 4800, 9600, or 19200. U se the CURSOR KE Y to select the desired baud rate and press ENTER .
Magellan NA V 6000 50 T urning the Beeper On or Off The beeper can be turned on and off. Beeper activation is independent of alarm control. P ress the MENU softkey , use the CURSOR KEY to highlight System S etup and press ENTER . The SETUP MENU appears.
Magellan NA V 6000 51 U se the CURSOR KEY to select desired radius and press EN- TER . P ress QUIT to exit. Default setting: Off Setting XTE Alarm If the alarm is on, it will sound when the boat has ex ceeded a certain XTE. The XTE can be set from 0.01 to 9.
Magellan NA V 6000 52 U se the CURSOR KE Y to highlight On or Off and press ENTER . P ress Q UIT to exit. Default setting: On T urning Marine Settings On and Off Marine features icons sho wn on the map can be turned on and off.
Magellan NA V 6000 53 When Lights are turned ON under the NA V AIDS Menu, lights will be shown on lighthouses and other lights that r o- tate, and a light sector will be displayed to sho w the range of coverage for the light. I n the No Sector setting, the light will be shown without sectors.
Magellan NA V 6000 54 When Map Orientation is set to N or th U p, the boat icon rotates accor d- ing to its COG direction, with respect to north; the map does not rotate. When Map Orientation is set to T rack-Up , the boat icon al- ways points up while the map rotates so the top of the screen is always the COG direction.
Magellan NA V 6000 55 When using Map S hift, we recommend that y ou physically go to a position that is clearly recogniz- able on the paper chart, to ser ve as a basis for performing the shift. P ress the MENU softkey , use the CURSOR KEY to high- light Map S etup and press ENTER .
Magellan NA V 6000 56 T urning T rack History On or Of f P ress the MENU softkey , use the CURSOR KEY to highlight T rack History and press ENTER . The TRACK HIST OR Y menu ap- pears. U se the CURSOR KEY to highlight T rack History and press ENTER . U se the CURSOR KE Y to turn T rack History On or Off and press ENTER .
Magellan NA V 6000 57 U se the CURSOR KEY to highlight one of the fields and press ENTER . U se the CURSOR KEY to edit and press ENTER to confirm. The softkeys allow you to view the next r oute, the previous route, and to scroll page up and page do wn in the route currently display ed.
Magellan NA V 6000 58 Simulation Mode Function When activating the simulation mode, if a route (multileg or GO T O) is already active, that route will be used for the simu- lation. If a route is not al- ready active, the unit will au- tomatically create a route that occupies the #25 spot on the route list.
Magellan NA V 6000 59 A confirmation screen appears. H ighlight YES and press ENTER. A message confirms the memory clear . If you select Clear All M emor y , the unit will turn off after a few seconds.
Magellan NA V 6000 60 T roubleshooting The following is a brief guide to some of the problems that might be encountered while using the M agellan NA V 6000 and what you can do to correct them. Receiver will not turn on 1 If the receiver is being po wered by batteries, make sure that they ar e fully charged.
Magellan NA V 6000 61 P osition coordinates on your r eceiver do not match the loca- tion on your map. 1 Make sur e that your receiver is set up to use the same datum as your map . The map da- tum is generally shown in the map legend. S ee Map Datum under S ystem Setup for instruc- tions on selecting the map datum in your re- ceiver .

T o replace batteries, with the unit turned off, unlock the door at the bottom of the unit b y turning both fasteners a 1/4 turn to the left.
Magellan NA V 6000 65 C-Card Installation In addition to its internal chart information, the NA V 6000 displays detailed navigational chart information from external data cartridges. A cartridge should be inserted or removed only when the unit is po wered off.
Magellan NA V 6000 66 IMPOR T ANT : The “C-MAP” label on the car- tridge should be facing up and the flat-edged end of the cartridge where the contact points are located should be inserted first.
