(1) The Magellan RoadMate 860T is a vehicle-navigation aid designed to assist you in arriving at your selected destinations. When using the Magellan RoadMate, these safety rules must be follo wed to prevent accidents that can result in injury or death to yourself or others: • California law pr ohibits mounting a ny item to your wind shield .
(2) About the AC Adapter • Do not use the adapter in a high mois ture environmen t. Never touch the adap ter when your hand s or feet are wet. • Allow adequate ventila tion around th e adapter when us ing it to opera te the device or charging the ba ttery .
(3) INSTRUCTION TO THE USER This equipment h as been tested and found to comply with the limits for a class B digi tal device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable prot ectio n against harmful inte rference in a residential installation.

It adds a new level of enjoym ent and safety to a wide range of navigat ion, sports, and recreation al activities.
Chapter 1: Information 2 1.3 A W ord on the Sa fe Usage of GPS Maps Just like paper ma ps, maps on GPS devi ces vary greatly in te rms of information included an d visual presentation. Whether topographical maps, roadma ps or marine charts, each map and th e data it presents is designed for a specific purpose.
Chapter 1: Information 3 1.6 GPS Maps and Y our Safety Remember , your GPS device is an aid to navigation. It must be used with c ommon sense, an d it is important th at users interpret GPS map data with a critical eye.

Chapter 2: Magellan RoadMate 8 2.8 Using Removable Storage Cards The Magellan RoadMate is equipped with a storage card slot at the top of the unit (see page 5) tha t accepts Secure Digital (SD) cards and Multimedi a Cards (MMC). Th ese cards are used to backup navigation da ta and to transfer image files to and from the hard disk.

Chapter 3: V ehicle Installation 11 Plug the data c able (TMC connec tor) from th e T rafficKit Mo dule in to the enhanced cradle Connect the antenna cable to the T ra fficKit Module. Connect the power in cable from the T rafficKit Module to the cigarette li ghter adapte r cable.
Chapter 3: V ehicle Installation 12 Plug the cigarette lighter adapter i nto a 12vdc receptacle in the vehicle. Using the suction cups at the end of the FM antenna , stretch ou t the FM antenna and attach it to the windshield. Rou te the cabling and the T rafficKit module so that it is sec ure and out of the way .
13 Chapter 4: Antenna Position The antenna on the Magellan RoadMate 860T is designed in such a way as to receive the satellit e signal at the front face of the antenna. It is important to angle the an tenna so that the front face i s mostly toward the sky .
14 Chapter 5: Navigation Basic Operation 5.1 T urning the Magellan R oadMate On Out of the Box Slide the RESET switch, located at the top of the unit (see “T op View” on page 5) to position “1”. If power is connec ted properly or if the ba ttery is charged sufficiently , the Magellan scre en will appear follo wed by the W arnin g scr een.
Chapter 5: Navigation Basic Operation 15 5.6 Inputting T ext Characters Whenever you need to input name s, street addresses, etc., the M agellan RoadMat e will displa y a keyboard. T ouch the letter you want and, if you make a mistake, use the Backspac e key to go back one character at a time.
Chapter 5: Navigation Basic Operation 16 5.9 What Is QuickSpell? The Magellan RoadMate uses QuickSpell technology to pro vid e you with th e fastest method possi ble to enter characters. QuickSpell eliminates the possibility of a misspelled word or looking fo r a city or st reet that is not in the loaded database.
Chapter 5: Navigation Basic Operation 17 5.10 Multi-W ord Indexing The Magellan RoadMate employs a search feature known as “Mul ti-W ord Indexing”. This featur e enables you to search the database for possible matches based on the char acters entered.
18 Chapter 6: T raveling 6.1 Guidance Information Screens The Magellan RoadMate has three screens you ca n use to assist you in traveling to your dest ination: the Map screen, the Maneuver List screen, and the T rue View 3D/Split T ru eView screen. Map : When a new destination is selected an d calculated, the Map screen is displaye d.
Chapter 6: T raveling 19 6.2 Map Screen The Map screen is the most commonly used screen in the M agellan RoadMate and pr ovides yo u with detailed information about where you are a nd where you are going. † By touching the POI icon on the screen, you can get information and route to it.
Chapter 6: T raveling 20 6.4 Changing the Map Zoom Levels While viewing the Map screen, you ca n zoom in (enlarge the map) by pressing the + (plus) key or zoom out (shrink the map) by pressing the - (minus) key . Note: The Zoom In and Z oom Out keys can also be used the scroll through long lists.
Chapter 6: T raveling 21 6.6 T rueView 3D Screen The Magellan RoadMate uses T rueView 3D technology to disp lay a three-dime nsional pictur e of the next maneuver . The T rueView 3D screen ca n be viewed only after a rout e has been calculate d. From the Map screen, press the VI EW key twice to view the T rueView 3D screen.
Chapter 6: T raveling 22 6.7 Choosing the Route Method Every route is calculated based on the Route Method cri teria sel ected. Every time a new dest ination i s selected, the Magellan RoadMate prompts you for the method that will be used to calculate the route.
Chapter 6: T raveling 23 6.10 Detouring from the Planned Route If you exit the pl anned route, the Magellan RoadM a te will get you ba ck on course in one of three ways. 1. If, while driving , you detour from the planned rou te, the Magellan Road Mate will auto matically recalcu late the route based on your new vehicle posi tion.
Chapter 6: T raveling 24 6.12 Displaying Information About Y our Present Location Anytime that you want to view information about your present location you can press the LOCATE key .
Chapter 6: T raveling 25 Select Dining, A TM, Gas... . Select the desired POI category . A list of the nearest POI’ s is displayed. Use the Navigation key to sc roll the list up or down (if necessary) and select the desired P OI. The Magellan RoadMate will calculate a new ro ute to the selected PO I from your current position.
Chapter 6: T raveling 26 Select the distance of the detour . Select 3 miles , 5 miles , or 10 miles . Or , you can enter a custom distance. Select Custom and select the custom distance . Enter the num ber of miles for your detour an d then select OK .
27 Chapter 7: Selecting Destinations 7.1 Destination Screen 7.2 Country Selection ( Globe Button) Country selection is used to help speed up s earching by narrowing down the da tabase. Befo re entering a destination, make sure you sel ect th e country where your destination is located.

The Magellan RoadMate will calculate the route. When th e calculations are comple te, the Map screen will be displayed.

Chapter 7: Selecting Destinations 36 7.5.3 List Addresses List Addresses shows all entries stored in your address book. It does not i nclud e previous destin ations but does include those entries designated as Favorites. From the Destination screen, select Address Book then, select List Addresses .

Select the destination you wi sh to change, and sel ect Move Up from the pop-up menu. When you have finished, select Save and you are returned to the T rip Planner screen.

Select Nearest . Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or down (if necessary) and select the desired POI.
Chapter 7: Selecting Destinations 49 7.6.1.3 Select Category Selecting Select Category enables you to narro w th e list of POIs by selecting the ca tegory of the name you spelled. Select Category . Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or down and select th e de sired POI category .
Chapter 7: Selecting Destinations 50 A list of all the POI’ s in the selected category nearest to your current position is displayed. Select the POI fr om the list. Select the desired Route Meth od. The Magellan RoadMate will calculate the rout e. When the calculatio ns are complete, the Map screen will be disp layed.

Chapter 7: Selecting Destinations 52 If the POI list has more than 15 returns, yo u can further na rrow th e search by selecting either Nearest or Spell Name. Select the desired POI from the list. Select Route to go to the sel ected Address, or select Ca ncel to return to the Select Custom POI menu.

55 Chapter 8: Navigation Options Navigation Options are only available whe n you ar e in Navigation Mode. When going to the Main Menu from the Music Player or from the Photo Viewer , this opti on will be grayed out. T o access these features, press the MENU key on the unit and select Navigation Option s .
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 56 Select a POI File . Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or do wn (if necessary) and sel ect a POI file. With the file selected, you are returned to the Custom POIs menu. Select Display Categories . The categories you created are displayed in the same way as the built-in POIs.
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 57 With the POI alerts set, you can now choose at what point you wi ll be alerted. Select Alert Parameters . Select the POI category to customize. The Detection Angle is set to alert you when you are within so many degrees of the POI.
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 58 Use the numeric keypad to enter the number of de grees in which to set the alert. When you have finished, select OK . The First W arning is set to alert you when you ar e within a certain number of feet from the POI. Select First W ar ning .
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 59 The Last W arning is set as a final ale rt when you are within a certain number of feet from the POI. Select Last W arning . Use the numeric keypad to enter the number of fe et in which to alert you. When you have finished, select OK .
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 60 8.1.3 Map Options Map Options enabl e you to determine th e be havior of the Map while you are driving. Select Map Options . With Scrolling enable d, the vehicle po sition icon will always remain in the same position with the map scrolling, or moving as while the vehicle is in motion.
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 61 Select Day Screen to choose a color scheme for the map while you are driving during the day . Select Night Screen to select a color scheme for driving at night.
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 62 Avo id T o ll R oa ds instructs Magellan Roa dMate to avoid known toll roads when calculating a route. Automatic Re-Route will cause the Ma gellan RoadMate to try up to three times to automatically r e-route to the dest ination when it has detected tha t the vehicle has deterred from the calculated route.
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 63 When you have finished, select Save . When you encounter traffic , and the set time has elapsed, the Detour icon will flash on the Map screen. T ouch the icon on the screen to have the Magellan RoadMate calcula te the detour .
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 64 8.1.10 Tone Options As you approach a maneuver , an audible ale rt sounds to let you know to make the maneuver . Select To n e O p t i o n s . Select either Bell , Chime , or Beep . When you have finished, select Save .

Select Europe and then select Switch . Select Ye s . After the unit has powered down, turn the unit back on and the n ew map will begin loading.
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 67 8.1.14 Automatic Volume The Magellan RoadMate can be set to auto matically increase the volume when the vehicle excee ds 45 MPH in order to compensate for road noise. Select Automatic V olume . Select the number increment by which to increase the volume.

The files are copied to the storage card. 8.1.16.2 Restore from Mass Storage Card T o restore the fi les to the hard disk, select Backup and Restore then, select Restore from Mass Storage Card .

The inform ation for the cu rrent trip is displayed. 8.2.1.1 Stopping or Starting the T rip Computer At any time the T rip Computer can be stopped an d started. If the T rip Computer is curre ntly running, select Stop .
Chapter 8: Navigation Options 71 8.2.1.3 Resetting the T rip Computer Before starting a new trip that you want to record, you need to re set the T rip Compu ter first. Select Reset and the infor mation will be set to zer o. The T rip Computer will r emain in a “Running” state.
72 Chapter 9: System Settings The System Settings Menu co ntains system wide customization features which include: Brightness, Power Management, Password, and Language. T o access these features, press the MENU key on the unit and select System Settings .

Then, from the Set New Password screen, select OK . 9.4 Language T o change the language for the menu text and voice prompts fo r navigation, select Language .
74 Chapter 10: System Status The System Stat us menu gi ve you further options to check the pe rformanc e of your Magellan RoadMate. 10.1 Product Information Select Product Information to show the curr ent application software versions. Also, th e current hardwar e and firmware vers ions will be displayed.
75 Chapter 11: Help The Help feature provides you wi th an interactive tutori al on the features and functions of the Magellan Ro adMate along with contact information should you need assistance.
76 Chapter 12: Magellan RoadMate T ools Installation 12.1 Installing the Software Insert the Magellan RoadMate T ools PC Application CD into your PC’ s CD drive. The setup application will begin automa tica lly . If it does not, browse your computer’ s CD drive and double-click on the setup.
77 Chapter 13: Magellan RoadMate POI Manager The Magellan RoadMate POI Manager enables yo u to transfer custom points of intere st files from your computer to your Magellan RoadMate. Before we add any custom POI’ s to the unit, you should underst and how th e POI Manager plots POIs.
Chapter 13: Magellan RoadMate POI Manager 78 13.3 Altitude Each location can also have an Altitude. Altitude is expresse d by how far the point is above or below the level of the ocean, or Sea Level. For example, Los An geles, California is about 300 feet above sea level.
Chapter 13: Magellan RoadMate POI Manager 79 13.4 Opening a POI File When you start the POI Manager the contents of your “My POI’ s” folder will be di splayed. This is the default location for storing custom POI files. Locate the POI files you wish to load.

82 Chapter 14: Magellan RoadMate Music Manager The Magellan RoadMate Music Manager enables you to transfer song files in MP3 or WMA form at from your computer to your Magellan RoadMate, or fr om your Magellan RoadMate to your computer .
83 Chapter 15: Music Player The Magellan RoadMate Music Player enables you to play music files in MP3, or WMA format, stored on the hard di sk of your Magellan RoadMate.

87 Chapter 16: Magellan RoadMate Photo Manager The Magellan RoadMate Photo Man ager enables you to transfer ima ge files in ei ther JPG or BMP format from your computer to your Magellan R oadMate, or from your Magellan RoadMate to your computer .
