2 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 Quadrifilar antenna The ENTER key confirms data entries or menu selec- tions. The NA V key accesses the navigation screens. The QUIT key cancels the operation of the last key press and can be used to back through the NA V screens.

4 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 Proper Handling - Signal Reception Clear View of the S ky . Because the receiver attains information it needs from satellites orbiting the earth, the antenna needs to have a relatively unobstructed view of the sky . This allo ws the receiver to choose from all satellites currently available.

8 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 Using the Status Screen The ST A TUS scr een gives you the general well-being of your receiver by showing y ou satellite status, signal strengths and battery life. Pic Once the receiver has computed a fixed position, the ST A TUS screen will be replaced by the POSITION screen.

Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 11 Using the Compass Screen As well as displaying the customizable navigation data, the COMP ASS screen provides a pointer compass to help y ou reach your destination. Steering Indicator Displays the bearing of the destination relative to the course over ground.

Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 13 Using the Plot Screen The PL OT scr een is a mini map that shows where y ou have traveled and where you want to trav el. Y ou can view the active route, your curr ent position and the other waypoints and destination in the PL O T screen.
14 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 The ARR O Ws can be used to move the cursor . If the cursor is over the waypoint icon when MENU is pr essed, the menu will be displayed with WPT INFO added. M o ving the cursor over a waypoint brings up the name, bearing and distance.

20 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 Using the Time Screen The TIME screen displays the current time, estimated time enroute, time of arrival, and elapsed time in r egards to the route you ar e navigating in.

Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 23 W or king with Waypoints This section tells you how to edit, delete, pr oject and sort waypoints. Y ou can store up to 500 user positions which can be used to build routes for navigation. W aypoints consist of two types, User and N on-User .

Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 27 DataSend™ CD (optional) DataSend™ softwar e contains a database of waypoints that can be sent to your receiver and ar e broken down into multiple categories. The softwar e allows you to select a geographical area and enable waypoint categories for that location to be transferred into the receiv er .
28 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 Working with Routes Cr eating/Clearing a GO T O A GO TO is a r oute that guides you from your current position to any waypoint in the receiver ’ s memory . As an example, you can save a waypoint at your home. N o matter where you go, you will always be able to navigate back home by using GO T O.
Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 29 Creating a Backtrack R oute Backtrack creates a r oute that starts from the last point recor ded in track history using the “bread crumbs” sav ed, to the first point recor ded for track history . By following this route, you “ retrace your steps ” back to the starting point.

While navigating in your route from home to campsite, you may decide you want to activate (turn on) the home to campsite route and begin navigating. 36 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 Selecting the Simulate Mode The Simulate mode will help you become familiar with y our receiver and how it wor ks by generating artificial position fixes. B y utilizing Simulate, the r eceiver will create a route and will continue until you end it.
Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 37 Selecting Alar m/Messa ge Accessing the Alar m/Messa ge Menu While navigating, you may decide to set an alarm. The receiver has five types of alarms: Anchor alarm, Arriv al alarm, XTE alarm, P roximity alarm and GPS F ix alarm.
38 Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 Selecting Proximity Alarm The P roximity alarm will sound when you ar e within the proximity of any waypoints you hav e chosen that are not on the active route. Selecting Ar rival Alar m The Arrival alarm will notify you when you are within the arrival circle of the destination waypoint.
Magellan GPS 315/GPS 320 39 PROX WPTS REEF ROCKS WPT001 WPT002 * DELETE and REPLACE will be displayed only if you select a used waypoint field. The alarm will sound and a pop-up window will appear when the GPS position is within the proximity distance y ou have chosen.
