1 Operation This section details the general u s age of Vigil Server software. T h i s i s t h e n o r ma l v i e w t h a t w i l l a ppear after the program has finished load ing. Notice that the program will automatically load at Windows star t-up, aut omatically log on, and open the “Live Viewer” window.

This pane is also expandable/collaps ible. This button allows y ou to ch ange between the visual search and a simpler t abular search.
The tabular search simply shows a table with the start and end dates of the available video footage. It cannot display gaps in video footage. Creating and Runnin g a Custom Search 1.3.4 If you find yourself making the sa me search regularly, a “Custom Se arch” can be saved.
Description The name for your search that will appear in the “Custom Search” list. Time Filter The start time and end time to be searched. Cameras Select the cameras to search, or select “All Cameras” Data The custom search will include the POS dat a criter ia specified.

A number of controls have been provi ded to make navigation and advanced fe atures more accessible: Click and drag the variable speed playback slider to change how fast the footage is played back.

The pl ayback window will be divided into quadrants. Quadrants are filled in cl ockwise order beginning in the top left.

Note: You can only adjust a paused image; adjust ment of footage during playback is too CPU intensive. Any adjust ment you have made will be reapplied when footage is paused again.
Select the desired audio channel to pl ayback from the “Channel” dropdown. All Audio Plays back recorded audio fr om the selected channel, re gardless of whether there is recorded video at the same time. Video Only Audio Plays back recorded audio from the selected channel, only when there is corresponding recorded video at the same time.
If “Real-Time Authenti cation” (in “DVR Settings | Sear ch tab”) is enabled, during playback if a fram e is does not pass authentication a large red X is displayed over the frame. Printing, Saving, or Copying POS Data 1.3.14 1.3.15 To print data to the default pri nter, right click on the da ta records and select “’Print” .

3xLogic Vigil System Server Softwa re - User’s Guide Doc# 0810061 0 Page 37 1.4.1 Exporting Images Single frame shots can be saved in eith er Bitmap (BMP) or J PEG (JPG) format . BMP images retain all of the original image det a il, but are typically much larger t h an JPG images as a result.
AVI Saves the current video footage as an AVI video. Select the export destinations and enter a filename. Clicking th e “Advanced” bu tt on will open th e “COD EC Settings” w in dow that allow s you to select and configure the CODEC used du ring the e ncoding process.
If you are exportin g from multi-screen playback, when choosing to export vi deo, you will have the option of exporting the “S elect ed Camera” or “All Cameras”. Choosing “Select ed C amera” will export on ly the currently selected camera footage.
V-POS If the V-POS software program is installed, t his option simply provides a quick way to load the applica t ion. It is especially us eful if Vigil is configured for Kiosk mode and the normal Start menu is disabled. Update… Opens the Local Update Utility that provides a small program to perform softwa re updates for DVR applications.
This program is for advanced users as a lot of the retu rned information may be cryptic or confusing for some. Essentially the program allows you to search the logs by using a variety of criteria such as dat e/time, error codes, IP address, or for a particular module.
Alarms are listed in a tabular form with the camera number, camera name, type of alarm, and date and time of the alarm. New alarms that have not yet been acknowledged are shown in red. Ackno wledged alarms are displayed in yellow. Acknowledges the selected alarm an d changes its highlighted color to y ellow.
The table includes information of the client’s remote host name or IP a ddress, the remote host connection port, the locally connected port, and the last a ctivity time of the connection. The update frequency of the table can be adjusted by selecting a number of seconds fr om the “Update Frequency” drop-down box.
Open a Fi le Double-click t he desired file in either the “File Browser” or “Th umbnail Browser” screen s. This will open the file using the stan dard Windows assigned pr ogram. Delete a File Right-click th e desired file, in either t he “Fil e Browser” or the “Thumbnail Browser” screens, and select “Delete”.
1.5.6.1 Filter Live POS Data To filter POS data by register number, right-click on the “Live Data” window and select “Data Filter” Enter the register number, or le ave it blank to view POS data from all data terminals, an d click “OK”. 1.5.
The “People Counting” window presents in and out hourly summaries for all cameras configured for “People Counting”. The columns include: • Camera – The camera number and name. • From – The start of t he counting interval . • To – The end of the counting interval .
“Talk” button to manuall y start and stop sending voice data. Talk When “Hands Free” is unchecked, click “Talk” to send voice data. Uncli ck “Talk” to stop sending voice data. Voice Detection Graphs The voice detection graphs provide a visualization of voice data det ected in chat session.

1.8 Video Recorder Controls The “Recorder Controls” screen allows you to control which cameras are recording footage and provides a quick summary of the camera c onfiguration. To open the Recorder Controls screen, click the “Recorder” button on the main window toolbar.
2 Settings Vigil Server is a complex softw are application that interf aces with a wide variety of hardware configurati ons. Every effort has been made to present a comprehensive set of c ustomization controls to confi gure your DVR to match your needs.
2.1 Camera Setup Tab The “Camera Setup” tab provides all of the settings fo r configuring DVR-controlled cameras. Resolution Select t he desired recording resolut ion f rom the drop-down list. Recording Enable or disable recordin g of the selected camera. Pre Buffer The numbe r of seconds of footage to be reco rded prio r to a motion detection or alarm event. Opens the “Recording Speed” window.
3xLogic Vigil System Server Softwa re - User’s Guide Doc# 0810061 0 Page 53 2.1.2 CODEC Settings The CODEC Settings al low advanced configurat ion of th e recording codec used for storing video footage. Opens the “CODEC Settings” window. Two video encoding CODECS are currently avail abl e for recording video foot age: AZTECH and MPEG4 CODECS.
Resets CODEC settings to their defaul t values for the selected camera. Picture Quality Adjusts picture quality of th e recorded images. Higher quality video will occupy more space on disk. You can use the slider or the text box to change the values. Noise Reduction Adjustment used to reduce vi deo noise on grainy video.
Use B Frame Uses bi-directional frames to decrease the file size of recorded footage Caution : This is a CPU intens iv e setting. 2.1.2.2 MPEG4 CODEC Settings To switch the recording CODEC to MPEG4, select the “MPEG 4” option from the CO DE C drop-d own box.

Type The type of storage location. Options ar e FTP Location, Window s Network Share, and Local Drive. Path The path where the image files will be upload ed (can only use pre-existing directories).

Live R esolut ion This is the resolut ion of the image that will be displayed on th e Live Viewer. If you are connecting to a 3MP IP camera, the resolution i s m u c h h i g h e r t h a n y o u r m o n i t o r i s capable of displaying, so it makes sense to reduce the resoluti on to minimize CPU usage.
Address : IP Address of the Vigil Server DVR Port : Live Video Po rt, default 22802 Camera Numb er : The camera input number on the rem ote DVR to be used Timeout : Number in s econds before connection time Decoding FPS : The Decoding FPS should be set to a value eq ual to or greater than the recording key-frame rate on the remote DVR camera input.
Here you configure which regions of the vi deo image are to b e u s ed f o r mo t io n de t ec t io n . T o do t hi s , s i mp l y draw on the video window. A semi-tra nsparent overlay will be drawn over top of the video. This marks the motion detection region.
Trigger Blocks Determines how many bl ocks of the image must change t o count as motion. Motion Sensitivity Adjust the “Motion Sensitivity” slider to control t he amount of motion required to t rigger recording.
Expands and contracts the time graph horizont ally. This allows for better precision in setting your ti me periods. Expands and contracts the time graph date graph vertically. Note: The smallest time interval that can be used is 15 mi nute periods. Moving a time period Click and hold the “Shif t ” key and click-and-d rag the section.
Camera Control Type The type of PTZ camera that is connected to your DVR . COM Port T h e C O M p o r t t h a t t h e P T Z c a m e r a i s c o n n e c t e d t o y o u r D V R .

3xLogic Vigil System Server Softwa re - User’s Guide Doc# 0810061 0 Page 66 2.1.8 Motion Alarm Tab Motion Alarms allow you to configure powerful motion detect ion alerts that include full cont rol over motion quantity, size, area, speed, and direction of motion.
2.1.8.1 Motion Alarm Settings The “Motion Alarm Set tings” window is an advanced version of the already discussed “ Motion Settings” window. In additi on to standard motion detection, th e motion alarms add direction and speed sensitivit y. This is accomplished by defining a mo tion vector with a timeout setti ng.
Note: If there is no motion vector arrow specified, any of the selected regi ons will trigger a motion alarm. Motion vector regions with motion detected are i dentified with a red square.
2.1.8.2.1 General Tab Schedule Enabled Check the “Enabled” bo x to record a schedul e in which the motion alarm can only be triggered. Click the “…” but ton to open th e “Schedule” window or edit an existing motion alarm schedule.
To add a time period where the motion alarm is enable d, click and drag across the desired time slot. Areas that are blank (no color) w ill disable the mot ion alarm event for those time period s. Note: Blank areas will not trigger a motion alarm, however, depending on the recording mode, they will still record f oot age.
Viewing the start an d end times of a section Select the section by clicking on it. The start and end time of the selected section are displayed near the bottom le ft corner of the “Schedule” window. You can also mouse over the any part of the sectio n and the time will be displayed near the bottom as well.
Audio Notification Settings Enable Enables audio notification when a motion alarm is triggered. Two a udio notification types are available: • System Beep - Plays a system beep • Wave File – Click the “…” bu t ton to select a WAV file that will be play ed.
From (Address) The email address of the ent ity that will be sen d ing the emails. Subject This tex t w ill be the subject lin e of the emails. Email Body Th is text will be inclu ded in the body of th e emails.
Remote Client Notification Setti ngs Enabled Enables remote client notification. Push Still Shot Settings… When configured, a still shot from the se lected cameras will be uploaded to the locations specified when a motion alarm is detected. Please see section 6.
Notify All / First Allows you to select if all client connections receive motion alarm notifications or only the client con n ection at the t op of the list. Connection Attempts The number of attempts to retry sendi ng a motion alarm to a client connection.
Click the “Email Setti ngs” button to open the Email Se ttings screen. In the Email Settings se ction, enter the details for the email th at will be sent. Email Header Options From (Name) The name of the en t ity that will be sendin g th e emails.
Delete Prompts to remove the selected emai l address from the recipients li st. Note: For email to function properly, a valid SMTP S e r v e r m u s t b e c o n f i g u r e d i n t h e “ D V R Settings” tab. Live Overlay Tab 2.1.10 For live overlay DVR systems, live overlay camera settings are available.
Moving bodies are outlined by a dashed box on the preview display. An en trance or exit is defined when t he centre of the boxes cross from one si de of the boundary line to the o ther. In/out counters are attache d to each detected person and total cou nt is di splayed at the bo ttom of the preview window.

Site Name The name of the DVR Site where the Vigil Server is located. The site name is included when saving still images and is also displayed in DVR Health Monitor. Offsite Backup on Alarm Enable Offsite Backup Enables footage to be au t omatically ex ported to t he specif ied off sit e lo cation wh en an alarm occurs.
The central SQL database feature is designed for DVRs with exte nded storage, wh ich can cau se the DVRs SQL database to exceed the 2GB limitation of the MSDE version of SQL which is used in Vigil Server. Warning: Qualified t echnicians only should modif y Ce ntral SQL Database settings.
3xLogic Vigil System Server Softwa re - User’s Guide Doc# 0810061 0 Page 82 2.2.1 General Tab Auto -Star t Reco rder Enables the DVR to start recording footage as soon as the Vigil Server program is launched. If not enable d, the user must manually start the reco rder using the “Recording Controls”.
Screen Saver When enabled, the Vigil Sc reen Saver is displayed af ter the specified number of minutes of inactivity on the system. Note: The Vigil Server system will contin ue to record while the screensaver is displayed.
Presets – Select a preset from th e dropdown list to change all of the ports to that preset. Change a Port – Type in a port number directly into the text bo x to set a custom port number.
Auto Logon When this is enabled, a dialog box prompts for a username and password. The username and password entered will be use d to log into Vigil Server automaticall y when the program is lau nched. If this is di sabled, Vigil Server will prompt for a login every time it starts.

Limit Search To One Day When enabled, the “Search” wi ndow will be limited to pe rforming searches a single day at a time.

Resolve Client Name When enabled, the IP addresses of clients who log in remotely t o the Vigil Server are queried to find the computer name of the remote client.

Note: The NTP test will no t record an event in the Windows Event L og if the time is already correct. 2.2.8.1 Configuring AUX Devices Add Adds a new AUX device to the list. Type – The particular type of DIO device you are adding: ACTi Encoder Specifies you are attachin g an ACTi encoder device.
Comart USB 1616-A Specifies a USB attached D IO board. Enabling System Beep causes the speaker located on the USB DIO to chirp on events such as triggered relays and opened/closed alarm inputs. ADAM 4052 / 4068 Adds an ADAM 4068/4052H COM port attached DIO device.
3xLogic Vigil System Server Softwa re - User’s Guide Doc# 0810061 0 Page 91 2.2.9 Proxy Tab The “Proxy” tab allows you to configure a connection t o a proxy server if it is required on your network to reach IP cameras.
2.3 Media Drives Tab The “Media Drives” tab configures the entire video recording and ex port destinations for the DVR. There are three types of Media Drives: Video Storage Drives, Alternate Video Storage Drives, and Export Destinations . • Video Stor age Drives – Video Storage Drives are the main drives where video footage is stored.
Note: Deleting a location does n ot remove the physical destin ation, only the reference to it within Vigil Serv er. Note: If a Video or Alternate Storage Drive is d ele ted, the user will be prompted.
2.3.1.1 Data Partitioning for Video and POS Alarm V ideo Footage Data partitioning has been added to Vi gil Server allowing for better user i nput as to how data is saved to the hard drive. Data partiti oning allows you to set up logical divisions between bo th standard alarm and POS alarm video files and normally recorded v i d eo .
Destination Path Select the hard drive partition you wa nt to use to record video data to. Export Destinations 2.3.3 When an export destinat ion is added or edited , the “Media Cont rol” window is displayed. Video Still/Motion Export Destinations are used to store exported video f ootage.
2.5 User and Group Management Tab The “Users” tab allows the configurati on of users on the DVR with specific permis sion s. Each user belongs to a group and each group ha s a set of permissions. Add/Modify a User 2.5.1 To add/modify a user, sel ect the Users button.
Note: A user can only belong to one group. Delete a User Select the user from the dro pdown list and click “D elet e”. Add/Modify a Group 2.5.2 To add/modify a group, sel ect the Groups button. Add a Group Click the “Add” button and enter a group name in the “Add New Grou p” window.
2.6 Relays/Alarms Tab The “Relays/Alarms” tab configures the input alarms and associated no tifications settings for the DVR. Digital Inputs 2.6.1 Digital inputs are alarms tr iggered by external circuits. The input alarm can be used to trigger audio and video recording.
2.6.1.1 Settings Tab Dwell Timer The number of seconds the digital inpu t/output remains active after a tri gger occurs. Normal Open/Closed If the digital inpu t/output is normally open , select the “Normal Open” option. If the digital input /output is normally closed, select th e “Normal Closed” option.

Viewing the start and end times of a section Select the section by click ing on it. The st art and end time of the selected section are displayed near the bottom left co rner of the “Schedule” window.
2.6.1.2 Client Connections Tab The “Client Con nections” tab controls input alarm noti fication to Vigil Cl ients. Add a Client Click “Add” to open the “IP Address” wi ndow . Type in the IP address of the remote client or mark the “Use Di alup” box if you wish to use a Windows dial up connection.
2.6.1.3 Notification Settings Tab Email Notification When enabled, an email is sent when an alarm is triggered. Click “Email Set tings…” to change to the format and recipients of the notificati on email. Test Email Sends a test email based on your noti fi cation settings and email configuration.
Enter the appropriate details for th e emai l that wi ll be sen t. To add , ed it, o r rem ove e mai l rec ipie nts, u se th e “Recipients” section and the appropriate but tons. Enabling “ Attach Still Shot” w ill add a still image of t he selected cameras to the outgoing email.
