4 LAN This port connects to your wired netw ork using a standard Category 5 netw ork cable. Printer This Parallel (LPT) P ort connects to your printer . Reset Button Briefly pressing the Reset Button will refresh the W ireless PrintSer v er’ s connections, potentially clear- ing any jammed links.
6 Connecting the Wireless PrintServer to Y our Network 1. After po wering on the Wireless PrintServer , plug one end of a UTP Category 5 (or better) cable into the W ireless PrintServer’ s LAN P or t. 2. Connect the other end of the cable into a netw orked hub or s witch.
1. T o begin dri ver installation, click the Start button, select Run , and type D:Driv erWin9xntAddP ort_Linksys.ex e (where D is the letter of y our CD-R OM driv e) in the Open f ield that appears. Click the OK button. 2. The Install Wizar d window appears.
10 5. Dri ver installation is no w completed but the Print Driv er still needs to be conf igured. The W ireless-Ready PrintSer ver will not function properly until the Print Driv er is conf igured. Check the box beside Conf igure Print Driv er No w and click the Finish button to continue.
12 11 9. The Ad d New Printer Wizar d will come up at this point. F ollo w the stan- dard procedure for adding printers under W indows. If y ou hav e an y ques- tions on adding printers, please refer to your W indo ws documentation. 10. After your printer(s) ha ve been added , you will return to the Conf igure Printer P or t screen.
14 13 Bi-Admin: PrintSer ver Management Overview The W ireless PrintSer ver is managed b y a utility program called Bi-Admin on the W ireless PrintSer ver’ s Setup CD .
16 15 Obtaining Device Information: The Device Information Icon T o access infor mation about the W ireless PrintSer ver , either click on it in the De vice List windo w (on the right side of the Bi-Admin windo w) or highlight the W ireless PrintServer and click on the Device Inf ormation icon, sho wn abo ve.
18 17 The W ireless PrintSer ver comes with a default device name printed on the bot- tom of the unit, and al wa ys star ting with the pref ix SC (example: SC489392). The SC name is the name of the W ireless PrintServer an y time users on the net- w ork quer y it .
Logical P ort Configuration: Logical P ort Configuration Icon T o set or change the W ireless PrintServer’ s logical port set- tings, highlight the W ireless PrintSer ver to be changed and click on the Logical P ort icon (sho wn here). The Logical P ort Conf iguration windo w will appear .
When the Conf igure Ser v er scr een appears, enter the W ireless PrintServer name (in the example sho wn here SCA71107 ) . Then enter your pass w ord (if you created one) into the P assw ord dropdo wn bo x and type it again in the V erify Pass word to conf ir m it.
Click the Wir eless tab to allo w you to vie w infor mation about the W ireless PrintServer . No values can be changed on this screen. This screen is for infor- mation onl y . Clicking the Refresh button causes the W ireless PrintServer to retriev e this infor mation again.
Advanced Properties The Adv anced Properties section of the W eb-based Utility is for users who ha ve a thorough understanding of netw orks and network settings. Changing these settings can cause inter ruption of network communication and mak e the W ireless PrintSer ver cease to function properl y .
Click the Logical Printers ta b to vie w or change the logical printer settings of the W ireless PrintSer ver . F or each Logical Printer , the follo wing f ields are av ailable: Logical Printer(P ort) - Select the Logical Printer P or t you wish to conf igure.
Click the SNMP tab to view or change the SNMP settings of the Wireless PrintServer . The W ireless PrintSer ver supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). This allo ws netw ork super visors to monitor and control the W ireless PrintSer ver using netw ork management platfor ms such as HP OpenV iew , IBM SystemV iew , etc.
Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) is a new standards-based system to allo w remote printing from a PC to an y accessible printer . Nor mally , the printer will be attached to a computer or other de vice which functions as an IPP Server .
5. Click Sa ve to create the IPP port on your system. Y ou will see a message con- f irming that the por t has been created , then the follo wing dialo g: 6. Either select an existing printer to use the ne w por t, and click OK . OR Click the Add Ne w Printer button to create a new printer to use the IPP port.
2. Select Netw ork Printer and click Next to see the Locate your Printer screen, as sho wn below . 3. Select Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your intranet, and enter the URL of the IPP Server as follo ws, where ip_address represents the IP Address of the IPP Server , and 631 is the por t number .
38 DHCP Support for the Wireless PrintSer ver T o use DHCP , which assigns non-static IP addresses, y ou must ha ve a DHCP server and DHCP management software. Otherwise, the W ireless PrintServer's IP address will remain unkno wn, and connecting to it will impossible.
Appendix Normal printing only sends print signals from a PC to a printer . Bi-dir ection- al printing , also called bitronic printing, refers to a printer's ability to do just the opposite- talk back to a PC to notify it of a print job status, paper jams, etc.
