4 LAN This port connects to your wired netw ork using a standard Category 5 (or better) Ethernet cable. Printer This Parallel (LPT) P ort connects to your printer . Reset Button Press this button to reset the PrintServer to factor y defaults and generate a diagnostic printout, which is discussed belo w .
6 Connecting a Printer to the Wireless PrintServer 1. Connect your printer to the W ireless PrintSer ver’ s Printer (LPT) port with your printer cable. Some printers, especiall y bi-direc- tional models, ma y require special shielded cabling. Consult y our printer’ s user guide for cabling specif ications.
Wireless PrintServer 1. Inser t the Setup Utility CD . A built-in autor un will begin the installation of the PrintServer’ s Bi-Admin Management Utility , and display F igure 4-1. Click the product you wish to install, follo w ed by the Install tab to continue.
1. T o begin dri ver installation, click the Start button, select Run , and type D:Driv erWin9xntsetup.ex e (where “D” is the letter of your CD-R OM driv e) in the Open f ield that appears. Click the OK button. 2. The W elcome screen appears. Read the text that appears and click the Ne xt button.
Wireless PrintServer 12 5. Dri ver installation is no w completed but the Print Driv er still needs to be conf igured. Check the bo x beside Conf igur e Print Driv er No w and click the Finish button to continue. 6. Double-click the Print Driver Setup shortcut icon .
Wireless PrintServer 14 10. This will display the Conf igure Printer P ort screen. Any installed printers will be displa yed in the Existing Printers f ield. Y ou can install a printer b y clicking the Add Ne w Printer button. 11. The Add Printer W izard screen will come up at this point.
16 Chapter 5: Bi-Admin: PrintSer ver Management The W ireless PrintSer ver is managed b y a utility program called Bi-Admin on the W ireless PrintSer ver’ s Setup CD .
18 Obtaining Device Information: The Device Information Icon T o access infor mation about the W ireless PrintSer ver , either click on it in the Device List windo w (on the right side of the Bi-Admin windo w) or highlight the W ireless PrintServer and click on the Device Inf ormation icon, sho wn in Figure 5-2.
20 Logical P ort Configuration: Logical P ort Configuration Icon T o set or change the W ireless PrintServer’ s logical port set- tings, highlight the W ireless PrintSer ver to be changed and click on the Logical P ort icon (sho wn in Figure 5-7). The Logical P ort Conf iguration windo w will appear .
T o disable one of the W ireless PrintServer’ s protocols, click once on the Device Name of the W ireless PrintSer ver you w ant to change, and click Conf iguration , follo wed b y System . The System Conf iguration window will appear . Each protocol is listed , along with Enab le and Disab le buttons.
When the Conf igure Serv er screen appears, enter the W ireless PrintServer name (SC0222CC is the example sho wn in Figure 6-3) . Then enter your pass word (if y ou created one) into the Device P assw ord f ield and type it again in the V erify Pass w ord f ield to conf irm it.
Click the Wir eless tab to allo w you to change information about the W ireless PrintServer . Y ou can conf igure the SSID , Channel Number , and Netw ork T ype. Y ou can also tur n on or off the WEP data encr yption feature, as w ell as choose either 64-bit or 128-bit data encryption.
Chapter 7: Advanced Proper ties The Adv anced Properties section of the W eb-based Utility is for users who ha ve a thorough understanding of netw orks and network settings. Changing these settings can cause inter ruption of network communication and mak e the W ireless PrintSer ver cease to function properl y .
Click the Logical Printers ta b to vie w or change the lo gical printer settings of the W ireless PrintSer ver . F or each Logical Printer , the follo wing f ields are av ailable: Logical Printer (P ort) - Select the Logical Printer P ort you wish to conf igure.
Click the SNMP tab to vie w or change the SNMP settings of the W ireless PrintServer . The W ireless PrintSer ver supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). This allo ws netw ork super visors to monitor and control the W ireless PrintSer ver using netw ork management platfor ms such as HP OpenV iew , IBM SystemVie w , etc.
Chapter 8: Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) is a new standards-based system to allo w remote printing from a PC to an y accessible printer . Nor mally , the printer will be attached to a computer or other device that functions as an IPP Server .
4. Click Sa ve to create the IPP port on your system. Y ou will see a message conf irming that the por t has been created , then Figure 8-2: 5. Either select an existing printer to use the ne w por t, and click OK . OR Click the Add Ne w Printer button to create a new printer to use the IPP port.

Select Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your intr anet , and enter the URL of the IPP Server as follo ws, where ip_address represents the IP Address of the IPP Server , and 631 is the por t number .
40 Chapter 9: DHCP Suppor t for the Wireless PrintSer v e r T o use DHCP , w hich assigns non-static IP addresses, you must ha ve a DHCP server and DHCP management software. Otherwise, the W ireless PrintServer’ s IP address will remain unkno wn, and connecting to it will be impossible.
Appendix B: About Bi-Directional Printing Normal printing only sends print signals from a PC to a printer . Bi-dir ection- al printing , also called bitronic printing, refers to a printer's ability to do just the opposite—talk back to a PC to notify it of a print job status, paper jams, etc.
your printer came with special bi-directional softw are allo wing you to monitor printer status, do not use it with the W ireless PrintServer—the software is most likel y not network-capab le.
