LinkSys R V042 Router Inst allation Instructions Part 1 | Basic Configuration of Y our Broadband VPN Router Before you attempt to log into the web-base d Administration , please verify the following. 1. Your browser is configured properly (see below).
1.2 | Web Management To access the Router’s management interface, enter the Router IP address in your web browser http://192.168.1.1. To log on as an administrator, enter the sy stem password (the default User Name is admin and the default Password is admin ) and click the OK button.
1.3 | Setup Wizard Note: Select “Setup Wizard at the top center of the navigation panel in order to start you through the basic configuration s cre ens.
1.4 | Basic Setup The first thing you need to complete is the Basic setup for the WA N parameters. Please click on the “Launch Now” button to start this process.
1.5 This screen is for informational purposes only. Please select “Next>>” to proceed. 5.
1.6 Enter Host Name and Domain Na m e only if required by the ISP. Click on “Next>>” to proceed. 6.
1.7 Select the WAN connection type for t he primary co nnection to your ISP. 7.
1.8 Obtain IP Automatically (For WAN 1) If you selected this option it will allow the router to receive a Dynamic IP address from the IS P. If necessary you may place DNS addressing here th at will be used b y the workstations. Click “Next>>” to proceed.
1.9 Static IP (For WAN 1) If you selected this option this will allow you to assig n a fixed (static) IP address. This address will be provided by your ISP. Enter the assigned IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway IP address. Click “Next>>” in order to proceed.
1.10 DNS Server settings (For WAN 1) This will be only for Static IP entries. Th ese addresses will be pr ovi ded by your ISP. 10.
1.11 PPPoE (For WAN 1) If you selected this option you must enter the inform ation as provided by your ISP. Enter the PPPoE User Name and Password assigned by your Service Provider.
1.12 WAN 2 Setup Although the router has the capabilities to use 2 Internet con nections we generally only use the 1 st configuration. You must progre ss through the se configurat ion screens in ord er to get to the “Save Settings” screen Click “Next” to co ntinue with th e configuration.

1.14 Next select “Sav e Settings” in order to complete this step. 1.15 Click on “O K” in order to finish the setup for both WAN 1 & WAN 2 .
1.16 | Advanced Setup – LAN Click on “Setup” on the menu at the top of the sc reen in order to validate the LAN setti ngs. Additionally you will be able to change the LAN IP address of the Router at this time.
1.17 Setting the LAN IP address of the Rou ter. (Device IP Address & Subnet Ma sk) This is the local LAN IP address of the r outer. All networked computers will use this address to get to the Internet. Thi s is referred to as the “default Gateway”.
1.18 Click “SAVE SETTINGS” in order to save the configurati on information. 17.
Special Note : At this point you will be required to log in again to the router management system. You MUST insure that the IP address for your local machine has changed from the old address range (192.168.1.x) to the new address range that you input in the previous step 1.
1.19 Select “DHCP” from the menu at the top of the screen. Th is will allow you to set the DHCP Scope for the workstations. Please insure that the Range Start & Rang e End are the beginning & ending of the range provided by Galileo International excl uding the address that w ill be used by the router.
Then at the command prompt type >IPCONFIG /ALL and record the Physical Address for the NIC card. (00-0D-60-26-8C-31) 20.
Click on “Add to List” in order add this entry into the table. Click on “Save Settings” in order to complete this step. Note: At this point of the configuration you should have internet connectivity. You can test your Internet access befo re proceeding to the next step.
Part 2 | VPN T unnel Configuration of Y our Broadband VPN Router (IPSec) 2.0 General Information VPN settings are used to create virtu al p rivate tunnels to remote VPN gateway s .
The tunnel we need to add is fo r “Gateway to Gateway”. Click on “Add No w” to proceed. 23.
There are many settings that must be config ured to enable VPN for a dedicated tunnel: • Tunnel Name . The tunnel name is simp ly a name for this tunnel (i.e.VPNtoGalileo) • Local Group Setup: o Local Security Gateway Type: IP Only o IP Address: This will be pre-filled in from the WAN IP address as previously selected.
Click on “Save Settings” to complete this step . Click on “OK” to complete the VPN Tunnel definition. Note: You will need to repeat this step as necessary for each network that is required using a different name for each tunnel. As an example in the US we need to create 2 tunnels.
In order to check the status of the VPN connection you can access the screen by selecting “VPN” from the menu at the top of the screen. This will display statu s as Connected when the tunnel is up.
