Uplink The Uplink P or t is where you can e xpand your net- w ork by connecting to another s witch or hub . The Uplink P or t is shared with Port 4. Uplinking to another Router , switch or a hub is done by simpl y running a cable from the Uplink P or t to the other device.
The W AN Indicators Link Gr een . The Link LED illuminates when a successful con- nection is made betw een the Router and your Broadband device or netw ork. Act Gr een . The Act LED flickers when the Router is sending or receiving data o ver the broadband port.
EtherFast ® Cable/DSL & Voice Router powered by Net2Phone 9 DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) DHCP is softw are that automati- cally assigns IP addresses to client stations lo gging onto a TCP/IP network. DHCP eliminates ha ving to manually assign permanent IP addresses to every device on y our network.
No w that your Router is ph ysically installed , you will ha ve to conf igure your PCs to accept the IP addresses that your Router will pro vide. These instructions apply onl y to W indows 95 and W indo ws 98 machines. F or TCP/IP setup under W indo ws NT , please refer to your Microsoft W indo ws NT manual.
Configuring Y our Network with the Cable/DSL & Voice Router Configuring the Cable/DSL & V oice Router No w that your Cable/DSL & V oice Router is wired into your netw ork, you can begin conf iguring your system. 1. Open y our web br o wser and type http://192.
4. Conf igure the f ollo wing v alues . Host Name & Domain Name These f ields allow y ou to supply a host and domain name for the Router . Some ISPs require these names as identif i- cation. Y ou ma y hav e to check with your ISP to see if your Broadband Internet ser vice has been conf igured with a host and domain name.
6. Choose the DHCP tab . 7. Unless y ou alr eady ha ve a DHCP serv er on your internal network, choose Ena ble from the DHCP Server f ield. By choosing Enable, y ou will conf ig- ure the Router to automatically assign IP addresses to each of your PCs.
19 Setting Up Y our Net2Phone Account Once your Router is completel y installed and set up, you can acti vate y our Net2Phone account. Y ou will need the follo wing before you can set up your Linksys .
Setup The Basic Setup screen is the f irst screen you will see w hen you access the Utility . If you ha ve already installed and setup your router , you ha ve already seen this screen and ha ve already properly conf igured all of the screen’ s val- ues.

A static route is a pre-determined pathwa y that netw ork infor mation must trav el to reach a specif ic host or network.
The DMZ Host setting allo ws one local computer to be exposed to the Internet to use a special-pur pose ser vice such as Inter net gaming or video- conferencing. T o expose one computer , enter the computer’ s IP address and click the A pply button.

Which modems are compatible with the router? The router is compatible with virtually an y cable or DSL modem that supports Ethernet. What are the advanced features of the router? The router's adv anced features include Filters, F orwarding, Dynamic Routing, Static Routing, and DMZ host.
44 Instant Broadband TM Series What happens when I don't hear the dial-tone? There are chances that the W A V f iles hav e been cor r upted. Either upg rade the f irmware (see page 25) or , if you ha ve already upgraded , reapply y our f ir mware upgrade.
