A SSEMBLING THE U PRIGHT E XERCISE B IKE T ools Required: Metric Wrench Set, Metric Allen Wrench Set, Phillip s Screwdriver 1. Locate and install the two LEVELER FEET (A) to the bottom of the REAR ST ABILIZER (B).
U NP ACKING THE R ECUMBENT E XERCISE B IKE 1. Carefully cut and remove the SHIPPING BANDS. 2. Carefully cut the tape securing the T OP FLAPS. 3. Fold the T OP FLAPS outward fully . 4. With the help of another person, remove the SIDE SHIP- PING TRA Y .
5. Connect the CONNECTOR (J) leading from the HANDLE- BAR ASSEMBL Y (E) with the CONNECTOR (J) leading from the SEA T ASSEMBL Y (F). Be sure the connectors fully lock. CAUTION: T o ensure that your handsensor heart rate works properly , secure the HEART RA TE CABLE (K) into the CABLE TIE CLIPS (G).

9 1 G ETTING S T ARTED 1.1 I MPORT A NT S AFETY I NSTRUCTIONS SAFETY W ARNING: The safety of the product can be maint ained only if it is examined regularly for damage and wear . See Preventative Maintenance section for details. Before using this product, it is essential to read this ENTIRE operation manual and ALL instructions.
1.2 S ETUP Read the entire Operation Manual before setting up the exercise bike. W HERE TO P LACE T HE E XERCISE B IKE Following all safety instructions in Section 1.1, move the bike to the location in which it will be used. See Section 7, titled Specifications , for the dimensions of the footprint.
11 Adjusting the seat on the recumbent bike: Lif t the spring-loaded adjusting handle located on the right side of the seat. Slide the seat forward or backward as necessary to the proper position and release the pin to complete engagement. Gently rock the seat forward and backward to ensure that it is locked into place.
2 T HE D ISPLA Y C ONSOLE 2.1 D ISPLA Y C ONSOLE O VERVIEW The computerized display console on the exercise bike allows the user to tailor a workout to personal fitness abilities and goals and to monitor progress. With this easy-to-use console the user can track fitness improvement from one workout to the next.
13 2.2 D ISPLA Y C ONSOLE D ESCRIPTIONS The functions for the keys and display windows on the exercise bike console are listed and described in this section. S ee Section 4, titled The Workouts , for detailed information on using the console to set up workouts.
K MESSAGE CENTER: This window displays step-by-step instructions for setting up a workout. When a workout is in progress, it displays statistics about the progress of the workout, as seen below: T.
3 H EART R AT E Z ONE T RAINING E XERCISE 3.1 W HY H EART R AT E Z ONE T RAINING E XERCISE ? Research shows that maintaining a specific heart rate while exercising is the optimal way to monitor the intensity of a workout and to achieve maximum results.
3.2 H EART R AT E M ONITORING T HE H AND P ULSE S ENSOR S YSTEM The hand pulse sensors (A) are the built-in heart rate monitoring system on the exercise bike. During a workout, grasp sensors that are set into the handlebars. For an accurate reading, use a comfortable grip.
17 T HE T ELEMETR Y H EART R AT E C HEST S TRAP The exercise bike is equipped with telemetry , a heart rate monitoring system in which electrodes, pressed against the skin, transfer heart rate signals to the exercise bike console. These electrodes are attached to a telemetry heart rate chest strap that the user wears during the workout.
4 T HE W ORKOUTS 4.1 W ORKOUT O VER VIEWS This section lists the exercise bikes pre-programmed workouts. For more detailed information, see Section 4.2, titled Using the Workouts . QUICK ST ART is the fastest way to begin exercising, and it bypasses the step s involved in selecting a specific workout program.
19 S ELECTING A W ORKOUT For HILL , RANDOM , MANUAL , OUTDOOR TRAINING , GRADUAL HIL L , F A T BURNER , CARDIO , CARDIO HILL , CARDIO INTER V A L , CARDIO ENDURANCE, and MY WORKOUTS : When prompted to select a workout, use the WORK- OUT PROFILE key to scroll through the options displayed in the MESSAGE CENTER.
20 P AUSING W ORKOUTS T o pause a workout, press the CLEAR/P AUSE key . Pedalling must not cease. P AUSE will eliminate resistance during the p ause duration. T o continue the workout, press the ENTER key . I NITIA TING A N E ARL Y C OOL -D OWN Workout s end automatically in a Cool Down mode, which lowers the intensity level.
21 H ILL The HILL workout features intervals of intense aerobic activity separated by intervals of lower-intensity . Interval training has been scientifically demonstrated to yield greater cardiorespiratory improvement than steady-pace training.
O UTDOOR T RAINING TM W ORKOUT OUTDOOR TRAINING is based on a RANDOM workout profile with smoother transitions between hills and valleys. This workout simulates conditions of an outdoor cycling terrain. During the workout setup, the chosen difficulty level corresponds to the baseline, or flat ground, for the workout.
C ARDIO H ILL TM W ORKOUT This workout consists of three hills that target three heart rate goals: The first hill brings the heart rate to 90 percent of the target rate. The second hill increases the rate to 95 percent. The third hill matches the target heart rate.
C ARDIO I NTERV A L TM W ORKOUT This workout alternates between a hill, which brings the heart rate up to the target rate*, and a valley , which brings the hear t rate down to 90 percent of the target. Af ter a warm-up, the workout progresses toward the first hill and heart rate goal.
4.4 M Y W ORKOUTS TM P ERSONAL P ROGRAMS The My Workouts Personal Programs feature on the exercise bike makes it possible to pre-set up to four workouts with personal setup information, such as age, duration, or level, and then store the workouts in the console memory .
5 O PTIONAL S ETTINGS Use the Optional Settings feature to change default settings or to enable or disable certain programs or displays on the exercise bike console. E NTERING A ND USING THE O PTIONAL S ETTINGS F EA TURE Press the P AUSE/CLEAR key twice, and then press Enter .

6.3 T ROUBLESHOOTING THE T ELEMETR Y H EART R AT E C HEST S TRAP H EART R AT E R EADING I S E RRA TIC O R A BSENT E NTIREL Y Repeat the electrode moistening procedure on the chest strap. See Section 3.2, titled Heart Rate Monitoring for details. The electrodes must remain wet to pick up and transmit accurate heart rate readings.
29 6.5 H OW TO O B T AIN P RODUCT S ERVICE 1. V erify the symptom and review the operating instructions. The problem may be unfamiliarity with the product and its features and workouts. 2. Locate and document the serial number of the unit. The serial number plate is located on the front stabilizer , below the shroud.
