Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) - 3 Opening the Computer 1. T ur n y our computer off by choosing Shut do wn from the Apple ( K ) menu. 2. Disconnect all cables , and unplug the pow er cord from y our computer . 3. Place a soft, clean tow el or cloth on the desk or surf ace.
4 - Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) 4. Locate the three silv er case screws circled belo w . Lift the stand up to locate the middle case screw . Note: These screws are captiv e; the y are par t of the displa y/bezel assembly and cannot be remo v ed.
Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) - 5 Removing the Lo wer F an 1. Ground yourself bef ore touching anything inside the computer . T ouch the metal surf ace (as shown belo w) on the inside of the computer to discharge any static electricity .
6 - Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) 2. Locate the metal locking clip on the top of the f an housing. Use a flat-blade screwdriv er to raise up the clip appro ximately 1/4 inch. 3. Push the metal locking clip all the w a y back until the f an begins to lift out of the computer .
Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) - 7 4. Disconnect the f an connector on the logic board. Pull on the blac k connector not the cable . 5. Grab the f an by the sides and wiggle the f an upward. As the f an comes up, the f an will bump into a tab on the front bez el.
8 - Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) 6. Push the f an into the computer and at the same time, tilt the f an so that it clears the tab on the bezel. 7. Pull the f an cable through the metal br ac ket (1) as y ou pull the fan f orward (2).
Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) - 9 Installing the Lower F an 1. Push the lower f an (1) into the computer , aligning the fan with the metal brac ket. Notice the location of the two gr a y b umps on the right side of the fan. These plastic bumps should be in this position f or this step.
10 - Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) 3. As you push the f an, make sure it clears the white tab on the displa y bezel. Important: Notice the position of the gra y bumps on the side of the f an. This is the correct position f or this step .
Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) - 11 Closing the Computer 1. Replace the cov er so that the slots on the top edge of the cover mate with the tabs on the displa y housing. 2. Tilt the back co v er slightly and align the top edge with the tabs on the housing.
12 - Lower Fan, iMac G5, 17-inch (Ambient Light Sensor) 3. Tighten the three captive case scre ws by turning them to the r ight. Don’t ov er tighten the screws . 4. Reconnect the power cord while the computer is f ace down; then position the computer in the upright position.
