2 The Basics 1. Pro ximit y Sensors senses pro ximit y towards o ther objects (such as your head) so that t ouch commands ar e no t acciden tally activated during a call. No t e *Do no t block the sensor or near the sensor ar ea with film cover or phone case.
3 The Basics Camera Key V olume K ey s 11. V olume Keys allow y ou to adjust the ringer and media volumes, or to adjust the in-call volume during a call. 12. Camera Key activates the camera. Once the Camera function is open, you can access the Video r ecorder function as w ell.
4 Installing the Battery and microSD Car d NO TE It is important to fully charge the bat ter y before initial use of the phone. The phone comes with a rec hargeable battery . Keep the bat ter y c harged while not in use in order to maximize talk, use, and standby time.
5 W ARNING! On the Android OS 2.2, y ou can download applications from Android Mark et and can store them on microSD card as well as on the de vice. Due to this feat ure, if you skip the unmount procedure, it can cause an error because information between microSD card and the device is accorded properly .
6 Charging with USB Y ou can use your computer to c harge your phone. T o be able to c harge with the USB cable, you need to ha ve the necessar y USB drivers installed on your PC first. Connect one end of the USB cable to the c harger port on your phone and connect the other end to a USB port on your PC.
7 The Basics T o check the battery charge level © F rom the Home screen, press the Menu Key and touc h Settings > About phone > Status . The bat ter y st atus (c harging , disc harging) and level (as a percentage of fully charged) will be displa yed at the top of the screen.
T urning the Phone On and Off T urning the phone on © Press and hold the Power/Lock Key for a couple of seconds. NO TE When you t urn on your phone for the first time, follo w the instructions on the screen to activate your de vice. T urning the phone off 1 .
T o turn the phone sounds off If you're in a place where y our phone sounds may disturb others, you can quic kly silence your phone from the loc k screen. 1 . P ress the Power/Lock Key . 2. Drag the Sounds off icon to the lef t. T o turn the phone sounds bac k on, drag the Sounds on icon to the lef t.

20 Switching between multiple applications 1 . Press and hold the Home Key . A small window opens with icons of applications that y ou’ve used recently . 2. T ouc h the application icon you want to open. Or press the Back Key to return to the current application.
21 Some applications hav e more Options menu items than can fit in the options menu; touc h More to open the additional items. Context menus Context menus contain options that apply to a specific item on the screen. T o open a Context menu, touc h and hold an item on the screen.

Phone and W eb search using text entry 1 . P ress the Search Key . When you press the Search Key on the Home screen or in the other applications that support this, the Quic k Searc h Bo x will open automatically .
Y ou can use the Searc h pref erences to configure some aspects of Google web searc h (for example, whether it makes suggestions belo w the Quic k Search B ox as y ou type), and what phone feat ures you want to include in searc hes. 3. T ouc h to searc h f or the entered terms.
Setting a L ock Pattern 1 . F rom the Home screen, press the Menu Key . 2. T ouc h Settings > Location & security . 3. T ouc h Set up screen lock (under the Screen unlock section). The first time y ou do this, you will see a tutorial with instructions on ho w to create an unloc k pat tern.
Customizing the Home Scr een Y ou can add the follo wing t ypes of items to the Home screen: Shortcuts Add shortcuts to applications, a bookmark ed webpage, a fa vorite contact, a destination in Google Maps, a Gmail label, a music playlist, and more. The shortcuts a vailable depend on the applications you ha ve installed.
Connecting Quickly With Y our Contacts As y ou build up your list of contacts on your phone, you can use Quic k Contact for Android to quic kly chat, email, te xt message, place a call, or to locate your contacts. Quic k Contact for Android is a special set of icons that you can use to quic kly and easily connect to a contact.
Connecting to Mobile Ne t works When you bu y your phone and sign up for service, your phone is configured to use your pro vider's mobile net works f or voice calls and for transmit ting dat a. Dif ferent locations ma y hav e diff erent mobile net works av ailable.

Secured networks are indicated by a loc k icon. ● If the phone finds a network that you ha ve connected to previously , it automatically connects to it.

31 W orking With Secure Certificat es If your organization's VPN or Wi-Fi net work relies on secure certificates, you must obtain the certificates and store them in your phone's secure credential storage before y ou can configure access to that VPN or W i-Fi net work on y our phone.
Connecting Y our Device to Y our Computer Bef ore using your device's mass storage capabilities, y ou need to prepare your de vice's dat a ser vices to sync hronize with your desktop or laptop computer . Once you hav e connected the device to the computer , you can transf er your data to or from the microSD card.
33 Connecting to Networks and Devices T o remove the connection: W ARNING! Carefully follow y our computer's instructions to unmount, remov e, or disconnect any remov able USB devices or disks, to av oid losing information on the microSD card when disconnecting your phone from your computer .
34 Placing and Ending Calls ● Press the up/do wn V olume Keys to adjust the call volume. ● Use the onscreen but tons to add another call on hold, to use the speakerphone, and f or other options. Airplane mode Some locations may require y ou to turn of f your phone's wireless connections by placing y our phone in Airplane mode.

Contacts Using Y our Contacts Use the Contacts application to add, view , and communicate with your friends and acquaintances. T o open your C ontacts application © T ouc h the Contacts Key on the Home screen or in the Launc h screen. NO TE Y ou can also access your contacts by using Quick Contact.
T o connect by using Quick Contact for Android TM 1 . T ouc h a cont act's picture to open Quic k Cont act for Android. 2. T ouc h the icon corresponding to the type of communication you w ant to st art. Depending on the contact information sav ed, the available actions will be display ed above the name.

Reading Y our Message s Y ou can read messages from your Combined Inbo x, from the Inbox, or from other folders from the individual accounts. T o read a message 1 . Press the Home Key , then touc h the Applications Launcher Key > Email . 2. T ouc h the message you want to read.
55 Communication Composing and Sending Email Y ou can send email to your contacts or to other people or groups. T o compose and send a message 1 . While in the Email application, press the Menu Key , then touc h Compose . 2. Enter an address for the message's intended recipient.
Please note that messages sent using an Exc hange account will not be located on the phone; they will, ho wev er , be located on the Exc hange ser ver itself . If you w ant to see your sent messages in the Sent folder (or with the Sent label), you will of ten need to open the Sent folder/label, press the Menu Key , then touc h Refresh .
57 Communication Adding and E diting Email Accounts T o add an email account 1 . Open the Accounts screen. 2. Press the Menu Key and touc h Add account .
T o change an account ’ s settings Y ou can c hange a number of set tings for an account, including how of ten email is chec ked and how y ou're notified of new mail. 1 . Open the Accounts screen. 2. T ouc h and hold the account whose settings y ou want to c hange.
59 Communication The F acebook application on your phone lets you k eep up and stay close with your friends in F acebook. It off ers most of the feat ures that you are f amiliar with when using Facebook on your computer .
Gmail Opening Gmail and Y our Inbox When you open the Gmail application, the most recent conv ersations are displayed in y our Inbox. T o open the Gmail application © T ouc h Gmail on the Home screen or in the Launc h screen. : indicates that this message was sent directly to y ou.
61 Communication OR © When viewing a list of labeled con versations, press the Menu Key and touc h More > Go to Inbox . T o switch accounts Gmail display s conversations and messages from one Google Account at a time.
T o read a message © T ouc h a conversation that contains the message you w ant to read. A conv ersation opens to the first new (unread) message, or to the first starred message, if you've pre viously starred a message in the conv ersation.
63 Communication 2. T ouc h the cont act name to open that message. When reading a message or when its tab is selected, you can press the Menu Key and touc h Mark unread to return a read message to the unread state. For e xample, to remind yourself to read it again later .
5. Continue into the next field to enter y our email message. 6. Press the Menu Key and touc h Attach to add an at tachment to the email. 7 . T ouc h Send to send the email. If you're not ready to send the message, touc h Save as draft instead. Y ou can read your draf ts by opening messages with the Draf t label.
65 Communication W orking with C onversations in Batche s Y ou can arc hive, label, delete, or perf orm other actions on a batc h of conv ersations at once, in your Inbox or in another label vie ws. 1 . F rom the Inbox or messages with another label, touc h the c hec kmark for all the messages you w ant to include in the batc h.
66 Communication Labeling a Con versation As mentioned pre viously , conv ersations are organized by labels. Gmail has sev eral default labels, but you can also add y our own through Gmail on the web. T o label a conversation or change the c onversation's label 1 .
67 Communication Starring a Message Y ou can star an import ant message or conv ersation to make it easy to locate again. T o star a message © When reading a message, touc h the star in its header . OR © When viewing a con versation, touc h its star to star the desired message in the conv ersation.

● If you touc h Audio , you're prompted to select an audio file from embedded audio files. ● If you touc h Record audio, the voice recording function opens and allows y ou to record a spoken message and at tach it to y our message.
73 Communication T o open Google T alk and sign in Chatting with F riends T o cha t with a friend 1 . F rom the Home screen, open the Launch screen and touc h T alk . If you're already c hatting with someone, y ou can press the Menu Key and touc h Friends list to return to the friend's list.
The messages that y ou exc hange are interleaved on the screen and include information about the c hat, such as whether it's on the record, the time a message was sent (if there's no response af ter a short while), and so on.
