2 The Basics 1. Pro ximit y Sensors senses pro ximit y towar ds other objects (such as your head) so that t ouch commands ar e no t acciden tally activated during a call. No t e *Do no t block the sensor or near the sensor ar ea with a film co ver or phone case.

7 The Basics T urning the Phone On and Off T urning the phone on © Press and hold the Power/Lock Key for a couple of seconds until the LCD screen turns on. NO TE When you t urn on your phone for the first time, follo w the instructions on the screen to activate your de vice.
T o turn the phone sounds off If you're in a place where y our phone sounds may disturb others, you can quic kly silence your phone from the loc k screen. 1 . Press the Power/Lock Key . 2. Drag the Sounds off icon to the lef t. T o turn the phone sounds bac k on, drag the Sounds on icon to the lef t.
Signing into Y our Google Account 1 . Launc h an application that requires a Google account (suc h as Android Market or Gmail). 2. Clic k Next > Sign in . NO TE If you do not already hav e a Google account, touch Create and follow the onscreen prompts to create your new account.

Phone and W eb search using text entry 1 . Press the Search Key . When you press the Search Key on the Home screen or in the other applications that support this, the Quic k Searc h Bo x will open automatically . In some applications, suc h as Gmail, Maps, and Messaging, the application's own searc h box opens when you press the Search Key .

Connecting Quickly With Y our Contacts As y ou build up your list of contacts on your phone, you can use Quic k Contact for Android to quic kly chat, email, te xt message, place a call, or to locate your contacts. Quic k Contact for Android is a special set of icons that you can use to quic kly and easily connect to a contact.

34 W orking With Secure Certificate s If your organization's VPN or W i-Fi network relies on secure certificates, you must obtain the certificates and store them in your phone's secure credential storage before y ou can configure access to that VPN or Wi-Fi net work on y our phone.
