When you start up, a disk icon with a blinking question mark appears in the middle of the screen. Th is ic on i ndic ates t hat y our Mac i ntosh c annot find the s y stem so ft w are it n eeds t o star t up .
When you try to start up from a floppy disk, a disk icon with an X appears in the middle of the screen and the floppy disk is ejected. Thi s i c on indic ate s that the flopp y di s k y ou tried to start up from is not a star tup dis k . Wa it a f ew sec onds .
m If the hard di s k is y our startup dis k , star t your c omputer us ing the Dis k To o l s flopp y di s k or (if y ou ha v e a built-in CD-R O M dri v e) with t h e CD-R OM disc t hat contains s y stem so ft w are .
When f or matting di s ks on a DO S computer , al w a y s f or mat sta ndard double-s ided di s ks in the 7 20K format. Al w ay s format hi gh-density di s ks in t he 1 440 K f or mat. If a dis k has been formatted incor rect l y , use a DO S c omputer to c opy its c ontents ont o another dis k that ha s b een properl y f ormatted.

You can’t start an application program or it quits unexpectedly. Or, when you try to open a program, you see a message that not enough memory is available.
