Unp ac king t h e p rinter 1 Remove everything from the shipping box, but leave the ink cartridges in their packages. 2 Remove the tape and packing material from the outside of the printer.
3 Open the printer’s cover and remove the packing material from the inside of the printer. The r e are three w hite pl ast ic piece s i nser ted i nsi de of t he pri nter . R emo v e the two la rge pi ece s that are acros s the top o f the c ar ria g e .

3 Lift both of the ink-cartridge latches. 4G rasp each ink cartridge by its sides and carefully remove the tape from the cartridge’s print head. Y ou ma y sa fe l y touc h the the bl ack p la sti c , but b e c areful not t o t ouch an y other par t.
5S lide the ink cartridges down into the carrier, and then close the latch over each cartridge. Pre ss f i r ml y to snap eac h latc h i nto p lace . 6C lose the printer’s front cover. When you close the cover, you can hear the carrier move to the right.
Loa ding p a per i n t o the p ape r t ra y Th e paper tra y holds up t o 1 50 sheets of 20-pound paper and feeds t h e paper aut omatic all y into t h e printer .
3 Load the paper into the lower tray, print side down. The wr apper that t h e paper come s i n us uall y tell s whi ch s ide t o pri nt fi rst. 4S lide the paper adjusters in to touch the edges of the stack of paper. Slide the paper lengthwise into the tray, print side down.

8I n the Services panel that appears, click the checkbox next to “Align ink cartridges before printing.” 9I n the Services panel, click Print. 10 Read the message that appears, and click Continue. 11 Examine the patterns that appear on the printed page.
12 Choose the number and letter of the best-aligned horizontal and vertical lines, and click OK. Th e printer pri nts a sec ond pag e containi ng patter ns y ou c a n use t o v erify tha t th e alignment i s acceptable . 13 If the patterns on the second printed page are acceptable, click Proceed.

4I n the Custom Paper Size Info dialog box, enter the settings you want. The min imum paper s ize y ou c a n use is 3 . 93" b y 5 . 7" (1 0 0 mm b y 1 4 4 mm) . The ma x imum pap er s ize is 8 .5" b y 1 4" (2 1 6 mm by 3 5 6 mm) . 5I n t h e Custom Paper Size List dialog box, click Done.
6 Before you print a document on the custom paper you have specified, be sure you also choose the appropriate setting from the Paper Type pop-up menu. To get t o the P ap er T yp e pop-up menu, choose Print from t h e File menu, and th en c hoose P ap er T yp e/Quality fr om the mai n pop-up menu.
