Ports and connectors on the back of your computer Video input card Connects your Macintosh to a video camera, VCR, or other (optional) video equipment. (The card is called the Apple Video System.) Security lock port F Enables you to attach a security lock to your Macintosh.
TV/FM tuner card Connects your Macintosh to an external TV antenna or cable (optional) TV service and to an FM radio antenna. (If don’t have the card installed and want to install one, purchase the Apple TV/FM Radio System from an Apple-authorized dealer.

5 Open the Monitors & Sound control panel in the Apple ( K ) menu and click the Sound icon. 6C lick the Sound Input pop-up menu and select “External Microphone.” 7 Click the close box in the upper-left corner of the Monitors & Sound control panel to close it.

You can’t eject a floppy disk. If y ou c an ’ t eject a flopp y dis k i n t h e us ual w a y , b y selec ting the dis k ’ s ic on and choos i n g Ejec t Dis k from the S p ec ial menu or b y dra.
You can’t start an application program or it quits unexpectedly. Or, when you try to open a program, you see a message that not enough memory is available. One of t he fo llo wi n g is prob abl y the c ause: m Th e Mac i nt osh ra n out o f memory .

4P ulling gently, swing the panel down, and slip it out. 5I f there are security screws on the vertical plate on the back of the computer, remove them with a screwdriver. If there are security screws, remove both screws from the vertical plate. Remove the back panel.
6T ouch any metal on the back of the computer to discharge static electricity from your body. Al w a y s do this bef ore you t ouc h any parts or i nstall any c ompon ents insi de th e c omputer . 8G ently pull down on the wire handle and swing it out to unlock it from its storage position. Then grasp the handle and gently pull the logic board out of the computer. Th e v er ti cal p late and the lo gic boar d t o whic h it ’ s attached s lide all t h e w a y out o f the computer .

3I f your PCI card has ports for connecting equipment, remove the plastic access cover from the vertical plate. On the inside o f the computer , squee ze t og eth er t h e tw o pla sti c tabs hol di n g th e acce s s co ver in pl ace; then pull the acce s s co v er of f from t h e outs ide .

6 Remove the PCI card from its static-proof bag. Hol d the car d by its ed g e s t o a v oi d touc hi n g a n y connect ors . 7C onnect the PCI card and the PCI card adapter.
8A lign the PCI card and the adapter over the PCI slot. 9 Insert the adapter into the PCI slot on the main logic board. Make sure the metal fence on the PCI card engages the hook on the vertical plate and that any connectors on the card protrude through the PCI access port opening.
10 Insert the retainer clamp back into the hole and hold it there while you screw it into place. 11 If you have a communication card, DIMMs, or a High Performance Module to install, go to those instructions later in this chapter. If you are finished installing items in your computer, proceed to “Closing the Computer.

5P assing the external connector through the hole in the vertical plate, insert the card into the communication slot. Press down on the card until the connector is solidly in place. Don ’ t f orce the c ard. If y ou meet re si sta nce , pull it out and try a g ain.

4S lip the three hooks at the base of the back panel into the grooves on the computer case. 5S wing the back panel up and snap it into place. 6P lug all the cables except the power cord back into the computer. Snap the plastic back panel into place. Slip the three hooks on the back panel into the grooves on the computer case.
