T o maintain a properly shielded unit, you must repair all accidental tears and cracks t o the shielding by covering them with EMI tape .

iMac (1 7-inch Mid 2006/Late 2006 CD) T ake Apar t — Display P anel 54 Replacing the LCD Display Replace the L VDS cable on the rear of the display panel. Secure the L VDS cable with tape. If you are replacing the displa y , a piec e of black mylar is enclosed in the box with the dis play module.

Replace the left bracket on the display panel with two screws . Connect the two inv er ter-to-display cable connectors and tape them to the back of the display panel.

Remove the piece of tape (circled) that secure the cable to the panel. T o access the connector , peel back the black mylar tape that partially covers the L VDS connector .

iMac (1 7-inch Mid 2006/Late 2006 CD) T ake Apar t — L VDS Cable 59 Replacing the L VDS Cable P osition the L VDS cable on the back of the display panel as shown. Connect the L VDS cable connector . When connected correctly the locking levers will secure the connector and it cannot be disconnected without depressing the levers .

Install the speakers and route the speaker wire abo ve the heatsink and around the fan. Secure the right speaker with the shor ter of the two mounting scr ews.

Star ting at the release tab that is furthest from the logic board , grasp the tab with needlenose pliers, and ex the tab toward the optical driv e exible cable.

If replacing a bad optical drive, use a T6 torx screwdriver to remov e two optical drive board mounting screws.
