Understandin g the home screen Understanding the hom e screen When th e printer is tu rned on, t he display show s a basic s creen, referred to as the home screen . If you are using a Software and Do cument atio n CD and the installation dialog does not appear, then do the following: In Windows 8 From th e Search charm, type run , a nd then na vigate to: Apps list > Run > type D:setup.exe > OK . In Windows 7 or earlier a Click or click Start , and then c lick Run .

Installi ng the pri nter on a wi reless ne twork (Macin tosh ) Note: Make su re to disconne ct the Eth ernet c able when ins talling t he prin ter on a wire less net work. Prepare to configure the printer 1 Connect the p ower c ord to the pr inter , then to a p roperl y grounded electrical outlet, and th en turn on the print er.
5 Under COLLECTIONS, select Bonjou r or Rende zvous , and the n double ‑ click the pr inte r name. Note: The appl ication re ferred t o as Rende zvous in Ma c OS X version 10.2 is now call ed Bonjour by App le Inc. 6 From the Emb edde d Web Server, navig ate to th e locat ion of the w irele ss setti ngs inform ation .

After in stalling the se rial or co mmunic ation (COM) por t, config ure the printer and the co mpute r. Make sure you hav e connected the serial cable to th e COM port on your print er. 1 Set the pa rameters in the pr int er. a From the pr int er cont rol p anel, naviga te to the m enu fo r the po rt se ttin gs.
In Windows 7 or earlier 1 Click or click Start , and then click Run . 2 In th e Start Sea rch or Run di alog, type devmgmt.msc . 3 Press Enter or click OK .
Minimizing your printe r's environmental impact Lexmark is co mmitted to environ mental s ustainabi lity and is cont inually im proving its pri nters to r educe their impact on the environment. We design with the environment in mind, engineer ou r packaging to redu ce materials, and provide coll ecti on and recy cling pr ogra ms.
Avoid paper jams Correct ly set t he paper type an d size to avo id paper ja ms. F or more informat ion, se e “Avoi ding jams” on page 25 2. Print in black and white To print all tex t and gra phics using o nly the blac k toner cart ridge, s et the pr inter t o Black O nly.
If you do not know the IP addre ss of the print er, you can: • View the I P address on the pr inter control panel in the TCP/IP sectio n under the Netwo rks/Port s menu. • Print a netw ork se tup p age or the me nu s etting s pag es and locat e the I P addr ess i n the TCP/I P se ction.
Using Hibernate Mode Hibernate is a n ultra ‑ low pow er operating mode. Wh en operatin g in Hibern ate mode, t he printer is essentially o ff, and all othe r syst ems and devic es are powe red down saf ely. Note: The Hibe rnate an d Slee p mode s can be schedul ed.
Setting the standard e xit bin li ght To save energy , you can dim or turn off the o utput lighting for the stand ard exit bin. Available set tings are O ff, Dim, and Br ight. The fact ory def ault sett ing for No rmal /Standby Mode i s Bright. When Eco ‑ Mode is set to En ergy or Energy/Paper, th en the light setting is Dim.
3 Follow the instruct ions on the computer s creen. Note: Printer supplie s and h ardware n ot li sted in the Lexm ark collect ion pro gram may b e recyc led thr ough yo ur local recycling center. Co ntact yo ur local recycling center to determine th e items they accept.
Loading paper and specialty media Setting the pap er size and typ e The Pape r Size s etting i s auto matica lly sen sed accor ding to the posi tion of the pap er guides in each tray exc ept th e multipurpose feeder. The Paper S ize setting for th e multipurpose feeder must be set manually from t he Paper Size menu.
Loading the standard or optional 550 ‑ sheet tray The pr int er has a sta ndard 150 ‑ she et (Tray 1) and 250 ‑ sheet tr ay (Tra y 2), and it may have on e or more op tiona l 550 ‑ sheet trays. All 550 ‑ sheet trays supp ort the sa me pa per si zes and t ypes.
2 Make sure to release the width guide lock at the rear of t he tray. Squeeze and then slide the width guide to the correct position for the pape r size yo u are loadin g. 2 3 1 Note: Alwa ys use the width guide lock at the rear of the tray to prevent the margins fro m being knocked out of adjustm ent.
Notes: • If the paper i s longer th an A4, then load it in short ‑ edge or ien tat ion . • If the paper i s shorter than A4, t hen load it in long ‑ edge or ien tat ion . • Make sur e the paper is belo w the maximum fill line l ocated on th e edge of th e pa per tray .

Loading the multipurpose feeder The mul tipurpo se f eeder ca n hold seve ral siz es and types o f pri nt med ia, suc h as tr ansparenc ies, l abels , card s tock, and envelope s. It ca n be used for sing le-page o r manual printin g, or as an addi tiona l tray.
3 Flex the sheets of paper or specialty media back and forth to loos en th em. Do not fo ld or cr ease them. Stra ighten the edges on a level surface. Paper Enve l ope s Transparencies Note: Avoid scratching or touching the pri nt side. 4 Load the paper or specialty media.
