Printer features Depend ing on the m odel, yo ur pr inter com es with feat ures t hat wil l help you man age and accom pli sh printing and imaging tasks: • Wireless networking —Pri nt an d s can from vir tual ly an ywh ere i n yo ur home or o ffi ce ov er a sec ure wireless network, as well as share the printer among multiple computers.

6 For legal ‑ size paper, exten d the paper tray. 7 Load paper. Note: Make sure the paper is below the maximum fill line located on the edge o f the paper tray. Overloading the tray can caus e paper jams. 8 Adj ust t he p aper guid es. 9 Insert the pape r tray.
Connect the power cord to a prop erly groun ded elec trical outle t that is near the printer and easily accessible. 11 Make sure the printer is on. Note: It ma y take a while before th e first screen ap pears on the p rinter c ontrol pane l. 12 Set the l ang uage on the p rin ter c ontr ol p ane l, an d t hen t ouc h OK .
18 To configure bas ic fax functio ns, touch Set Up Now , and then proc eed to the next step. Otherwi se, touch Set Up Later , and then go to step 21. 19 Enter your fax numb er for this printer, and then touch Accept . Your fax n umb er i dent ifies you as t he sender in all your sent faxes.
23 Remove all pa cking material. 24 Insert each ink cartridg e until it clicks into place. Note: Make sure to use the four in k cartridges that came with your ne w printer.
Understanding the parts of the printer Use the To 1 Automatic document feed er ( ADF ) • Scan , copy , o r fa x mul tip le ‑ page docum ents . • Access AD F pape r jams. Note: Select prin ter mode ls a llow d uple x scan ning, copyin g, or fax ing wit h just a singl e pass of a pa ge th roug h the A DF.
Use the To 16 USB port Connect the p rinter to a computer using a USB cable. Warning—Potent ial Damag e: Do not touch the USB port excep t when plugging in or removing a USB cable or installation cable.
Using the printer control pane l Note: T he ic ons appe ar when they ar e selectab le on the c urrent scre en. If an ic on does not appear, then the fun ction is not avai lable. Use To 1 Power • Turn the printe r on and off. • Switch to Sleep mode .
Understanding the home screen After the printer is turned on and a short warm-u p period occurs, the display shows the home screen . Use the home scre en selections to initiate an action, suc h as copying or faxing, or to change printer setting s. Touch To 1 Copy Access th e copy me nu an d make cop ies.

Ordering and replacing supplies Ordering ink cartridges Order the cartridges th at are designe d for use in your region. • Region 1 : For the United States, Canada, and Latin America , use 200, 200XL, or 200XLA cartridges.
Notes: • If Align Pr inter appears on the printe r control panel , then touch Continue . • Do not remov e the alignme nt page until pr inting is fini shed.

Printing a document For Wind ows users 1 With a docume nt open, click File > Print . 2 Click Properties , Prefe ren ces , Options , or Setup . 3 Select the print quality , the numb er of copies to p rint, the type of pape r to use, and how the pages should print.

E-mailing Sending e-mail Tips for e ‑ mailing • Make su re to e nte r yo ur e ‑ ma il acc oun t inf orma tio n and set up the S MTP se rver befo re se ndin g an e ‑ mail. • Make sure the prin ter is c onnected to an E the rnet or w ireless network be fore sending an e ‑ mail.
Setting up the printer to fax CAUTION— SHOCK HAZARD : Do not use the fax feature du ring a light ning storm. Do not set up this product or mak e any elect rical or cabling connec tions, such as the pow er supply cord or teleph one, durin g a lightni ng storm.
Connected to different w all jacks To co nne ct: Connect the cable from the wall jack to th e port of the printe r. Tips for this setup: • If you have only one telep hone numbe r on your line, the n you need to set the printer to receive faxes automatically (Auto Answer On).
• You can also set the prin ter to receive faxes automati cally (Auto Answer On), but y ou need t o turn off the voice mail service when you are exp ecting a fax.
2 Connect t he other end of the cable to the port labele d Phone Line 1 or Phone P ort on the V oIP ad apter. The port labeled Phone Line 2 or Fax Por t is not always active. You may need to pa y extra to y our V oIP provide r if you want to acti vate the seco nd phone port.
• If you need two ph one port s for your device s but do not want to pay extr a, then do not plug the pri nter into the second ph one po rt. You can use a phone splitter. Plug the phone splitter into th e Phon e Line 1 or Phone Port , and then plug the printer and teleph one into the splitter.
Connecting the pr inter to a non ‑ RJ ‑ 11 wall jack To co nne ct: 1 Conn ect o ne end o f a tele pho ne cab le to th e port of the print er. 2 Conn ect t he othe r en d of the c ab le to the RJ ‑ 11 adapter, and then conne ct the adapt er to the wall jack .
France Netherlands Switzerland Finl and Norw ay Unite d King dom Warning—Potential Damage: If you r country or reg ion is on the list, then do not remove the wra p pl ug from the port of the printer. It is necessary for the proper fun ctioning of the devices on the telephone line.
Connect the printer to any of the N ports. To co nne ct: 1 Conn ect o ne end o f a tele pho ne cab le to th e port of the print er. 2 Conn ect t he othe r en d of the c ab le to the RJ ‑ 11 adapter, and then conne ct the adapt er to an N port.
Step 5: Set the number of rings If you set Auto Answer to O n in Step 4, then do the following. If you set Auto An swer to Off, the n proceed to S tep 6. Troublesh ooting Before you troublesho ot Use this check list to solve most printer pro blems: • Make sure th e power c ord is plug ged into the printer and into a properly grounded, working electric al outlet. • Make sure the printer is turne d on.
Software did not install If you encountered problems whi le installing, or if your printer does not appear in the list in th e printers folder or as a printer option when sending a print job, then try un installing and reinstalling the software.
C HECK THE USB CONNECTION 1 Check the USB cable for an y obvi ous damage . If the cable is damage d, then us e a new one. 2 Firmly plug the square end of the USB cable into the back of th e printer. 3 Firm ly plug the re ctan gula r end of the USB cabl e into the USB port of the c omput er.

Print a networ k setup page to ve rify the SSID the prin ter is using. If you are not sure if your SS ID is corr ect, th en run the wi reless setup again. • Your WEP ke y or WPA passphra se is correct ( if your networ k is secure). Log on to the access point and chec k the security setting s.
