Understandin g the home screen Understanding the hom e screen When th e printer is turn ed on, the dis play shows a basic screen , referred to as th e home screen.

Activating the home screen application s Your printer comes with preinstalled home s creen applicat i ons. Before you can use these applications, first activate and set up the se appli catio ns using the Em bedde d Web S erver .
Understanding Eco ‑ Setting s Icon Description The applicatio n lets you easily mana ge ene rgy cons umption, noise, toner, and pap er usage settings to help reduce the environmental impact of your printer.
Exporting and impo rting a configura tion You can e xport config uration setting s int o a text file, and t hen im port it to ap ply the se ttings to othe r pri nters. Exporting a configuration to a file 1 Open a Web browser, and then type the printer IP add ress in the address field.

5 Push th e memory card into the co nnecto r until it clicks into place. Installing a flash memory or firmware card The syst em board has two connec tions f or an o ptional flash m emor y or fir mware c ard. Onl y one o f each m ay be insta lled, but the connectors are interchangeable.

Installi ng the pri nter on a wi reless ne twork (Win dows) Before installin g the printer on a wire less network, make sure: • Your wi rel ess ne twor k is s et up and is wor king prop erl y. • The computer you are using is connected to the same wireless network where you want t o set up t he printer.

Avoid paper jams Correct ly set t he paper type an d size to avo id paper ja ms. F or more informat ion, se e “Avoi ding jams” on page 19 0. Print in black and white To print all tex t and graphi cs us ing only t he blac k print c artridg e, set t he pri nter to Black On ly.

Loading paper and specialty media Setting the pap er size and typ e The Pape r Size sett ing is au tomati cally sen sed accor ding to th e positio n of the pa per guides in each tr ay except the multipurpose feeder. The Paper S ize setting for the multipurpos e feeder must be set manually from the Paper Size menu.

2 Squeeze and then slide the width guide to the correct position for the paper size loaded. 3 Squeeze and then slide th e length guide to the co rrect position for the paper size loaded. Loading the 2000 ‑ sheet h igh ‑ capacity feeder The high ‑ capacity feeder can hold up to 2,000 sheets of letter ‑ , A4 ‑ , and legal ‑ size paper (80 g/m 2 or 20 lb).
3 Flex the sheets back and forth to loos en them. Do not fold or crease the paper . Straighten the edges on a level surface. 4 Load pa per into th e tray with the prin t side face up. Note: M ake sure the p aper i s below the m axim um fill li ne locat ed on the e dge o f the pape r tray.
Notes: • Place pre-pu nched paper with the holes toward the fron t of the tray. • Place letterh eads faceup with the header on the left side of th e tray. • Place let terhead s f acedown with the he ader on the righ t side o f the tray fo r duplex print ing.
2 For paper or specialty media that is long er than letter-size paper, gen tly pu ll the exten sion until it is fully exten ded. 3 Flex the sheets of paper or specialty media back and forth to lo osen t hem. Do not fo ld or creas e the m. Stra ighte n the edges on a level surface.
4 Push the p aper pick tab , and th en load the p aper or spec ialty me dia. Slid e the stack g ently i nto the mult ipurpose feeder until it comes to a stop, and then release the paper pick tab. Warning—Pote ntial Damage : Pul ling the paper out, with out p ushing the p aper pick t ab fir st, ma y cau se jams or the pap er pic k tab t o brea k.
5 Adjust the width guide to lightly touch the edge of the stac k. Make sure the paper or s p ecialty medi a fits lo osely in the multipur pose feeder, lies flat, and is not bent or wrinkled.
Linking exit bins Link exit bins to create a single o utput source. Th e print er a utomati cally us es the ne xt avail able bi n as the o utput s ource. The stand ard exit bin hol ds up to 550 s heets of 20 ‑ lb paper. If you n eed addit ional ou tput capacity , you can pu rchas e other op tional exit bins .
2 Click Sett ing s > Paper Me nu > Custom Types > select the custom name yo u want to config ure > sel ect a paper or specialty m edia type > Submit .
Paper and specialty media guide Notes: • Make su re the paper size , type , and weig ht ar e set co rrec tly on the com puter or on t he pri nter contro l pane l. • Flex, fan, and straighten specialt y media b efore loadi ng it. • The printer may print at a reduced speed to prevent damage t o the fuser.

Selecting preprinted forms and letterhead Use these guidelines when selecting prepr inted forms and letterhead: • Use grai n long for 60 to 90 g/m 2 (16 t o 24 lb) weight paper. • Use onl y forms and l etterhea d print ed usin g an o ffset lit hograp hic o r engrav ed print ing p rocess.
