2-13 4090-001 5 P aper Feed Ink smudging and smearing can be caused by paper problems or prob lems in the paper feed area. Check the f ollowing: • Correct type of paper is being used. Also check the paper f or curl or wrinkles. • F eed rollers for w ear, dirt, or looseness.

Diagnostic Aids 3-1 4090-001 3. Diagnostic Aids Use these diagnostic test procedures to verify a repair . There are two w a ys to enter test procedures, each procedure will indicate the method to use: Procedure 1: • Press and hold the P aper Feed b utton while tur ning the printer on.
Diagnostic Aids 3-2 4090-001 Encoder Sensor T est This test disables the printer motors to allow y ou to manually mov e the carrier to verify the encoder is working correctly . To r u n t h e t e s t : 1. T ur n the printer off and place a two pin jumper on connector J6 as shown belo w .
3-3 4090-001 4090-001 Initialize Error Log This test allows y ou to track ne w errors. Use this procedure to reset the error log to zero . The error log is especially helpful in diagnosing inter mittent or difficult prob lems. To r u n t h e t e s t : 1.

The Busy light reflects the paper sensor status in the f ollowing manner: • On - paper is in sensor • Off - paper is not in sensor To r u n t h e t e s t : 1.
3-5 4090-001 4090-001 Pa r a l l e l P o r t T e s t This test perf orms a wrap around test between the printer parallel por t and the parallel port test connector . This test requires a parallel por t wrap plug. Install the wr ap plug in the parallel por t bef ore you star t the test.

Install a blac k print car tridge in the left side of the printhead cradle and a color print car tr idge in the rig ht sid e.
