7.9 Pr inting IPDS from PSF/2 This section describ es how to set up PSF/2 to make it possible to print IP DS data to a LAN attach ed printer using TCP/IP. This section does n ot describe how to connect PSF/2 to an IBM host to receiv e AFP and IPDS data.
2. On the PSF/2 Control Pa nel select |Profile| and then | N ew |. The PSF/2 New Device m enu appears. Enter the devi ce name an d the device description and select a Device R esolution of 300 pel.
3. Select TCP/IP as Attachmen t Type and select Settin gs. The TCP/IP Settings menu appears. Enter th e IP address of the print er. The IP address sh ould be obtain ed from you r netw ork adm in istrator. The TCP/IP port n um ber entered m ust be either 9100, 9102, or 9600.
4. On the PSF/2 Control P anel select Op tio ns and Setup q ueues. The Setup queues men u w ill appear. I t will be blank at first. En ter the Queue nam e, description and select th e Device and then select Setup. An OS/2 printer queue is now created and the printer is ready to print IPDS from OS/2 and a PSF/2 connected h ost.
7.10 Printer Sharing in t he PSF/2 Environment To enable the printer to start oth er print jobs from another protocol, interf ace or server, the P SF/ 2 tuning op tion J ob I nterva l Shutdown T i mer i s use d.

7.11 Printing IPDS f r om PSF/A IX To create a new IPDS printer definition in PSF/AIX perform the follow ing actions: 1. Execute the com m and smit psf_add_prt_tcpip to get the PSF/AIX SMIT Printer Definition for TCP/IP attached p r inters. 2. Answ er the follow ing: Printer NAME: Enter a nam e for the IPDS pr inter.
Num ber of QUEUE DEVICES: Leave this at th e default value (4 devices) initially. You can tune this option later, according to the throughput o f the printer. Connect TIMEOUT: Initially leav e this at the default value (30 seconds). Refer to the PSF/AIX on-line help for information about w hen to increase this v alue.
8 Using the SIMM for IPDS w ith the A dapter for SCS 8.1 Using the Coax/T w inax A dapter for SC S This section describ es how to set up the A dapter for SCS to make it possible to print IPDS data to either a direct coaxially attached printer or a direct tw inaxially attached printer.
Important : On IPDS code lev el 8223 and abov e, the IPDS em ulat ion m ay be shared by IPDS hosts conn ected to the printer usin g the A dapter for SCS (Coax or Tw inax attachm ent) an d IPDS hosts connected to th e printer using a MarkNet in ternal print server, or a MarkNet Pr o external print server, or MarkNet XLe.
8.2 Using the Coax In terface w ith IPDS Note: When coax attached, the Adapter for SCS w ill, by default, us e the IPDS emu lation if a SIMM for IPDS is installed. If you install a new Adapter for SCS in an Optra printer with a SIMM for IP DS (and vi c e vers a ), you d o no t need to config ure the Adapter f or SCS to use the IPDS em ulation.
8.4 Cha nging the Coa x Timeout Value ( For Reference Only ) If necess ary y ou can chan ge the Coax Tim eout value by follow ing these steps: 1. Pre ss Me nu> until NE TWORK MENU disp la ys. Press Select. 2. Pre ss M enu> until NETWORK OPT ION 1 , NETWORK OPTI ON 2 or NETWORK OPT ION 3 display s.
8.5 Verify ing the C oax Interface with the SIMM for IPDS To verify the Adapter for SCS configuration, print a SC S IDB dump page. Follow these steps: 1. Pre ss Menu> until NETWORK MENU displa ys. P r ess Select . 2. Pre ss Me nu> until NE TWORK OPTION 1 displays.
8.6 Using th e T w inax Interface with IPDS When tw inax attached, the A dapter for SCS will, by defau lt, NOT use the IPDS emul ation if it is installed in the printer. The Adapter for SCS must be configured to use the installed SIMM for IPDS before it connects to the host.
8.8 T w inax Interface S ettings Only th ree setting options have to be considered to set up the Adapter for SCS for IPDS operation: SCS Device Address IPDS Device Address IPDS Bu ffer Sizes Note:.
8.10 IPDS Dev ice A ddress and IPDS Buffer Sizes Sett ings These settings for the Adapter for SCS on ly appear w hen th e SIMM for IPDS is detected in the printer. The IPDS Device Address is used to select the tw inax address for the IPDS em ulation or to disable the IPDS em ulation.
8.11 Changing the Tw inax Timeout Va lue (For Reference Only ) If necess ary y ou can chan ge the Twin ax Timeout v alue by f ollowin g these st eps: 1. Pre ss Me nu> until NE TWORK MENU disp la ys. Press Select . 2. Pre ss Me nu> until NE TWORK OPTION 1 , NET WORK OPTION 2 or NETWORK OPT ION 3 display s.

5. Problem: Sometim es the messages ( 38I Mem ory Full or Me m or y F ul l ) display on th e printer oper ato r panel and the connection w ith the printer is lost. What do these messages mean? What sho uld I try? Solution: 38I Memory Fu ll - this m essage is generated wh en there is insuff icient mem ory to print the page.
6. Problem: If I w ant to w ork w ith the m enus for the A dapter for SC S, how do I know w hethe r to choose NET WORK OPTION 1 , NET WORK OPTION 2 or NETWORK OPTION 3 ? Solution: A. Pre ss Me nu> until y ou see TESTS MENU . Pre ss Select . B. Pre ss Me nu> until y ou see Print M enus .
8. Problem: The message Two IPDS Sources Recycle Power display s an d the print er stops. Solution: The SIMM for IPDS supports only LA N attached hosts or a coax ial/twin axial attached host.
10. Problem: Interv ention R equired m essag es (printer of flin e, paper jam, ou t of paper, cover open, etc.) from the printer are cau sing problem s on th e IPDS host. Solution: You can s uppress th is m essag e reporting by se lecting "Do Not Report" for Intervention Required.
13. Problem: IPDS j o bs will n ot work w ith Job B uffering set to On . Solution: The host ex pects im medi ate response s from the prin ter durin g job processing . Buffering a job to the disk delays the return of th ese responses. Set Job Buffering = Off under the NET WORK OPTION X m enu.
16. Problem: The message Resources Lost appears on the displa y bef ore an IPDS job prints . Solution: IPDS resources were deleted by the printer. A. Try to determine w hat is causing th e resources to b e d eleted. See the section 4.3.14 IPDS Timeout on page 40 for ad d itional inform ation.
10 Warranty The limited w arranty you received w ith you r printer gives w arranty term s and conditions. For warranty information, refer to your printer documen tation.
