Installing a flash memory or firmware card The syst em board has two connec tions f or an o ptional flash m emor y or fir mware c ard. Onl y one o f each m ay be insta lled, but the connectors are interchangeable.
Notes: • The entir e length of the c onnect or on t he card must touch a nd be f lush a gainst t he syst em boa rd. • Be ca reful no t to dam age the c onnect ors.
5 Push the in ternal pr int server or port interface car d firmly in to the ca rd conn ector on t he syste m board. 6 Inser t a s crew in to th e hole on th e righ t si de of the co nnecto r s lot. Ge ntly t ighte n th e scre w to se cure the card to the system boar d tray.
3 Attach the ribbo n cabl e to th e hard disk. 4 Atta ch th e mountin g plat e to t he hard disk wi th the scre ws. 5 Press the ri bbon cable co nnecto r in to the hard dis k connect or on the system bo ard.
6 Flip the hard disk over, and th en press t he three post s on the mo unting plat e into the h oles on the syst em board. The hard disk snap s into place. 7 Reins ta ll the syst em b oard . Replacing the acc ess panel After y ou h ave insta lled optio ns on t he prin ter s ystem boa rd, f ollow these steps to re attach the a ccess panel .

3 Align the p rinter w ith th e tray, and then lo wer the pr int er into place. 4 Turn the pr inter back o n. 5 Set the pr int er softwa re to reco gniz e the opti onal in put sou rce. For more informa tion, see “ Upda ting av ailab le options in the pr inte r driver ” on page 29 .

In Macintosh Click t he CD i con on the des ktop. Note: D is the letter of yo ur CD or DVD dr ive. 3 Click Instal l , and then follow th e instruction s on the computer screen.
Setting up wireless printing Follo w th ese inst ru ctio ns if y our pr int er mod el is wi rel ess. Note: A Servic e Set Ide ntifier (S SID) is a name as signed to a wirel ess n etwork . Wireless E ncrypt ion Protoc ol (WEP ) and Wi-F i Prote cted Access (W PA) are t ypes of secur ity us ed on a ne twor k.
– To find the WP A/WPA2 pre shared k ey or passphr ase f or the wi rel ess net work, s ee the docume ntation that came with the access point, see the Embedded Web Server associated with the access point, or consul t your system s upport person.

Changing port settings after in stalling a new network Internal Solutions Port When a new Lexm ark Inte rnal S oluti ons P ort (I SP) is insta lled in t he pri nter, the pri nter config uration s on compu ters that ac cess t he pr inter must b e updat ed since t he pr inter wi ll be assigne d a new IP addres s.
6 Type the new IP address in the “Printer Name or IP Address” field. 7 Click OK > Clo se . For Macintosh users 1 Open a Web browser, and then type the print er IP address in the ad dress field. Notes: • View the pr inter IP addres s on the print er co ntrol p anel.

6 Press the up or do wn arro w butt on un til Sense Executive or Sense B 5 appears, a nd then press to select th e paper size. Submitting Selection appears, f ollowed b y the Size Sensing menu. 7 Press once, a nd then press th e up or down a rrow bu tton unt il Exit C onfig Menu appe ars 8 Press .

Loading the 2,000-sheet dual input tra ys The 2,000-sh eet dual input dra wer includes two trays : an 850-sh eet tray a nd a 1,150-sheet tra y. Although the trays a re different in appearance, they require the same p rocess for loading paper . 1 Pul l the tr ay out .
4 Load paper in the tr ay with th e print si de up. Note: Make sure the paper is below the maximum fill line on the rear guide. Overloading may cause jams.
Loading the multipurpose feeder The mul tipurpo se f eeder ca n hold seve ral siz es and types o f pri nt med ia, suc h as tr ansparenc ies, l abels , card s tock, and envelope s. It ca n be used for si ngle-page or man ual prin ting or as an addi tiona l tray.
3 Adjust the width guides to the correct posi tions for the pap er size being loaded. 4 Flex the sheets of paper or specialty media back and forth to loosen them , and then fan them. Do not fold or crease them. Straighten th e edges on a level surface.
5 Load the paper or specialty media. Slide the stack gently int o the multipurp ose feeder unti l it come s to a stop. • Load letter, A4, B5, Executive, and transparencies with the recommended print sid e facedown and the long edge of the pap er entering the p rinter first.
6 Adjust the width g uide to li ghtly t ouch the edge of the pap er stack. Make su re t he paper fi ts loos ely in the multipur pose feeder, lies flat, and is not be nt or wrinkl ed.
Linkin g and u nlinkin g tray s Linking trays Tray linking is useful for large print jobs or multiple co pies. When one linked tray is empty, paper feeds from the next linked t ray. When the Pape r Siz e and Paper Type setti ngs ar e the same for any trays, th e trays are automatically linked.

Changing a Custom Type <x> name You can use the E mbedde d W eb Serv er or Mar kVisio n TM to defi ne a n ame other t han Custom Type <x > for e ach of the custom paper types t hat are l oaded. W hen a Cus tom Type <x> n ame is ch anged, the menus display the new na me instead of Cu stom Type <x >.
Paper and specialty media guidelines Paper guidelines Paper characteristics The follo wing paper charact eristic s af fect pr int quali ty and re liabi lity. Consi der the se cha racteris tics whe n evalu ating new paper s tock. Weight The print er can au tomat ically feed pap er weights fr om 60–128 g/m 2 (16–34 lb bon d) grain long.
Fiber content Most h igh ‑ qua lity xerogra phic pa per is mad e from 100% ch emically tre ated p ulped wood. This content provides th e paper with a high degree of stability resu lting in fewer paper feeding problems and better p rint quality. Paper containing fibe rs such as cot ton c an nega tivel y affe ct pap er hand ling.
Storing paper Use these paper storag e guidelines to help avoid jams and uneven print quality: • For best resu lts, store paper where the tem perature is 21°C (70 °F) and the relative humid ity is 40%.
