MC-12 Basic Operation 2-3 1 STANDBY BUTTON Use the Standby but ton to activa te or deactivate standby mode. The Standby button performs no function when the MC-12 rear panel power sw itch is pow ere d off. When standby mode is activated, all MC-12 zones that were active during the la st session are reactivated.

MC-12 Basic Operation 2-9 7 RECORD ZONE AUDIO OUTPUT CONNECTORS Provide analog and digital audio output in the Record Zone. T wo stereo connectors labeled Audio L/ R are available for analog audio output. The connector labeled Fi x passes audio at fixed output levels.

Three trigger output connec tors are available on a removab le terminal block. The PWR connector – the power tri gger output connector – is not configurable.
MC-12 Basic Operation 2-11 MAIN MENU The MAIN MENU represents the beginning of the menu structure . Use the MA IN MENU to open the three main menu branches: MODE ADJUST , AUDIO CONTROLS, and SETUP . MENU NAVIGATION Use the remote control Menu and arrow buttons to navigate the extensive menu structure shown in t he Appendix.
Basic Operation Lexicon 2-12 MENU OPTIONS Selecting a menu option opens another menu within the menu structure. For e xample, selecting SETUP from the MAIN MENU opens the SETUP m e n u . MENU PARAMETERS Selecting a menu parameter opens a drop-down menu or horizontal bar graph that is used to select the desired setting.
MC-12 Basic Operation 2-13 COMMAND BANK ACTIVATION Remote control buttons perform different commands depending on whether the Main Zone, Zo ne 2, Record Zone, or Shift command bank is activated. Pressing and releasing a remote cont rol command bank selection button – MAIN, ZONE, REC, or SHIF T – activates the corresponding command bank.

MC-12 Basic Operation 2-19 ABOUT THE ZONES The MC-12 features three zones of operation: t he Main Zone, Zon e 2, and the Record Zone. The Main Zone controls audio and video sources in the primary listening space. Zone 2 controls audio sources in the secondary listening space.
Basic Operation Lexicon 2-20 RECORD ZONE T WO-LINE STATUS Opens on the on- screen and front panel displays whenever the MC- 12 detects a Record Zone status change. The Record Zone two- line status indicates the current input, input source, and volume lev el selected in the Record Zone .

When the parameter se tt ing is MA TRIX, a matrix-encoded source is detected. When the parameter setting is NONE, a matrix-enco ded source is not detected.

MC-12 Setup 3-7 ASSIGNING AUDIO & V I DEO INPUT CONNECTORS The MC-12 has 12 inputs, each of which can be assigned to any (depending on compatib ility) of its 13 digital audio, 8 analog au dio, 5 composite video, 8 S-video, or 4 componen t video input connecto rs.

MC-12 Setup 3-9 ANLG IN L VL AUTO, -18 to +12 dB Opens the ANLG IN L VL menu, to adjust the 2-channel (and 5.1- chan nel when the MAIN ADV ANCED ANALOG BYP ASS parameter is set to OFF) analog audio input levels for the selected input. Analog audio sources ha ve a wide range of levels.
Setup Lexicon 3-10 ASSIGNING AUDIO & V I DEO INPUT CONNECTORS (continued) MANUAL -18 to +12 dB Provides manual adjustment of 2-channel (and 5.1-channel when the MAIN ADVANCED ANALOG BYP ASS parameter is set to OFF) analog audio input levels. Lower levels cause more noise, while higher levels pose a risk of overloa d distortion.
MC-12 Setup 3-11 VIDEO IN COMPOSITE- 1 TO 5, S-VIDEO-1 TO 8, NONE Opens the VIDEO IN menu, to assign a composite or S-video inpu t connector for the selected input. Note: • Composite video output connecto rs are available only when a composite video source is present.
Setup Lexicon 3-12 SELECTING PREFERRED LISTENING MODES The MC-12 allows the selection of five preferred li sten ing modes for each Main Zon e input: o ne listening m ode each for 2 -channel, Dolby Digital, DTS(-ES), 5.1-c hannel analog, and MIC (LIVE! ) sources.
MC-12 Setup 3-13 2-CH Opens the 2-CH MOD E menu, which selects a preferred lis tening mode for 2-channel input sources. The MC-12 activates the preferred listening mo de whenever a new input is se lected or a ne w 2-channel source is present.
Setup Lexicon 3-14 SELECTING PREFERRED LISTENING MODES (continued) Opens the DTS(-ES) MODE menu , which s elects a preferred listening mode for DTS(-ES) in put sources. The MC-12 automati- cally activates the prefer red listening mode whenever a new input is selected or a new DTS(-ES) sour ce is present.

MC-12 Setup 3-21 DIG OUT RATE INPUT , 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz Controls the sample rate of digital and analog input signals sent to the Record Zone digital audio ou tput connectors. When INPUT is selected, the sample rate of input signals is not converted.
Setup Lexicon 3-22 SPEAKER SETUP Selecting the SETU P menu SPEAKERS optio n opens the SPEAKER SETUP menu, which co nfigures the Main Zone audio output connectors for the desired speaker setup. The Main Zone incl udes 10 unbalanced audio outp ut connec tors labeled Front L/R, Center , LFE, Subwoofer L/R, Side L/R, and Rear L/R.
MC-12 Setup 3-23 CUSTOM SPEAKER SETUPS Selecting the CROSSOVER S ETUP menu CUSTOM SETUP option opens the CUSTOM SETUP menu, which assigns independent crossover points for each Main Zon e audio output connector . Crossover points can be selected in 10Hz increments wi thin a 30 to 120Hz range.

MC-12 Setup 3-25 THX SPEAKER SETUPS Selecting CROSSOVER SETUP THX SE TUP opens the THX SPEAKER SETUP screen, which indicates that pressing the arrow button will automatically configure th e Main Zone au dio output conn ectors for a THX speaker setup.

MC-12 Setup 3-33 CALIBRATING SPEAKER DISTANCES & OUTPUT LEVELS The MC-12 offers both automatic and manual calibration of speake r distances and output levels. Calibration helps to ensure accu rate output signal arrival time and level at the primary listening position.
Setup Lexicon 3-34 UNITS FEET, METERS Determines the unit of mea surement in which sp eaker distances are calcula ted on ALL speaker distan ce menus. When FEET is select ed, the MC-12 calculates speaker distances in fe et. When METERS is selected, th e MC-12 calculates speake r distances in meters.
MC-12 Setup 3-35 AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION The MC-12 offers automatic calibration of speaker distances, ou tput levels, or both. The table below indicates available automa tic calibration options. A successful microphone check is required be fore automatic calibration can be performed.
Setup Lexicon 3-36 CONNECTING THE MICROPHONES CAUTION! • The microphones included in the Lexicon Microphone Kit require careful handling. Dropping or otherwise physically abusing the micropho nes might cause errors duri ng use or irreparable damage to the microphon e.
MC-12 Setup 3-37 POSITIONING THE MICROPHONES FOR THE MICROPHONE CHECK Refer to the microphone place ment examples that begin be low to position t he microphones for the micropho ne check.
Setup Lexicon 3-38 During the microphone check, do not: 7 Separate the microphones 7 Scatter the mi crophones th roughout the listen ing space 7 Obstruct the line-of-sight path between the micro- phon.
MC-12 Setup 3-39 CHECKING THE MICROPHONES Note the following: • The MC-12 outputs cal ibration noise signals between 55 and 95dB, beginning with 55dB and increasing in 5dB increments until the microphones detect the required level. If the calibra- tion noise signal becomes too loud, press the arrow button to cancel the microphone check.
