1 How to use the scanner This manual describes how to use the HP Scanjet G3010 Photo Scanner and its accessories. This section presents an overview of the scanne r and how to use it.

Button Disa ble Utilit y To prevent buttons from being accidentally pushed, you can u se the Button Disable Utilit y to disable th e buttons. You can use the sam e utility to re-enable the buttons.
Front panel buttons Icon Feature name Description Scan button Scans pictures, graph ics, documents, or objects. Scan Film button Scans transpar ent positiv es (such as 35 mm slide s) and negatives. Scann ing film requires that you use the transparent materials ada pter (TMA) located on the underside of the scanner lid.
To start the HP Solution Center: 1. Do one of the fo llowing: a. On the Windows de sktop, double-click the HP Soluti on Center icon. b. On the taskbar, click Start , point to Programs or All Pro grams , po int to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
1. Place the original face down on the scanner glass, as indicated by the reference marks, and then clo se the lid. 2. Press the Scan button ( ). The HP Scanning dialog box appears. 3. Under the What a re you scanning? headi ng, click Picture . 4. Select Scan originals from glass .
Note If you want to previ ew scans before they are sent to their dest ination, select Show Preview in the HP Scan ning dialog box, or begin yo ur scan from the HP Solution Cent er. Also see Preview a scanned image . 1. Place the original face down on the scanner glass, as indicated by the reference mark.
Scan positives (su ch as 35 mm slides) The transparen t materials ada pter (TMA) in this mo del enables yo u to scan as many as two 35 mm slides at one ti me, depending on orientation. T o scan 35 mm slides, use the slide holder that is part of the built-in TMA.
9. Click Scan . 10. Follow the inst ructions on the screen to finish scanning. The scan is sent to t he destination selected in the HP Scan ning dialog box. 11. When finished, remove the slides. Place the negati ve strip holder back in to the scanner lid for co nvenient storage.
4. Slide a negative st rip into the negative strip h older so that the shiny side of the negative faces you. Note Negatives are ea sily damaged. Touch them o nly on their edges.
The front p anel Copy butto n is optimized to scan and print a du plicate of what is on the scanner glass. If you want to change the image, such a s lighten, darken, or adjust size, click Cancel in the hp copying dialog box. Adjust the setti ngs, and then complete the scan.
E-mail a document or picture Follow these in structions to scan pictures or documen ts from the scanner glass and sen d the scans to a supported e-mail program as an attachment. 1. Place the original face down on the scanner glass, as indicated by the reference mark.
To view or change t he scan settings, open the HP Solution Cente r and select the devic e tab. Click Settings , point to Scan Sett ings , and then select the type of settings you want to view or chang e.

Scanner has stopped working properly If the scanner stops scann ing, complete the followin g steps, in order. After each step, start a scan to see if the scanner is w orking. If the problem continues, p roceed with the next step. 1. A cable might be loo se.
Scanner will not turn on If the scanner will no t turn on when you press the f ront panel scanner buttons, check f or these possible problems: ● The scanner may have been unplug ged. Check to see that the power ca ble has not become disconnected from the scanner or unplugged fr om the power source.
Issues with scanning documents or text (OCR) The scanner uses optical chara cter recognition (OCR) to convert text on a page to text that you can edit on your com puter. ● If you scan text but canno t edit it, make sure that you make the fol lowing selections during scanning : – HP Scanni ng (Select Docume nt .
● Items have excessive amou nt of dust or dirt on them. ● Smudges or other marks a ppear on scanned images. ● Haze or dust is on the glass. Allow the glass to dry th oroughly before scanning anot her image. For more de tails, see Care and maintena nce on page 14 .
The scanned images are dark ● Check to see if the TMA light is on before you click Scan or Accep t . ● The bulb in the TMA ligh t source might be broken or not working. If the bulb is b roken, service is required. ● The selection area mig ht not be made correctly.
