1 Chapt er 1 – Introdu ction 1.1 Overview The LevelOne PLI - 3510 operates on HomePlug A V standard, providing up to 200 Mbps data speed over the ex ist ing household pow er supply . This Prod uct is cost- ef f ective , easy to create a home network without spending time and money to run expensiv e C A T5 cabling .

6 9. In order to start the utili ty, double - click the utility icon on desktop. 10. You can see your device working well . The t op p anel of the screen shot show s a Homeplug device connected locally to your computer. The bottom panel shows one device connected remo t ely to the computer runnin g the utility.
7 2.3 Un i nstallation of Configur ation Uti lit y 1. To uninstall the Configuration Utility , g o t o th e “ Control Panel ” of you r syst em . 2. Open the “ A dd/Remo ve Programs ” . 3. Select and double click on the “ Powerline Uti li ty ” in the Add/Remove Programs Properties .
8 Chapter 3 – Configur atio n Utili ty Setup Introduction The Configuration Utility enables the users to identify HomePlug devices on the pow er l ine network, measures data rate performance, ensures privacy and performs diagnostics by setting user defined secure powerline networks.
9 The M ai n screen provides a list of all powerline devices logically connected to the computer when the utility is running.T he top pane l shows al l local HomePlug devices connected to the computer’s NIC (Network I nterface Card). In most cases, only one device will be seen.
10 above the Remote devices panel showi ng whether the Autoscan functionality i s turned ON or OFF. The followi ng information is displayed for all dev ices t hat appear in the lower panel. Device Name column shows the de fault device name, whi c h may be user re - defined.
11 Password column by default is blank and ‘E nter Password’ button can be us ed to enter it . To s et t he Password of the device ( required when c r eating a private netw ork ), first select the device by cli c king on its name in the lower panel and then click on the Enter Pas sword button.
12 Ad d butt o n is used to add a remote dev ice to the existing network by entering the dev ice password of the device. A dialog box wi ll appear as shown below in Figure 3 -4 . The dialog box allows the user to enter both a device name and the password.
13 The Scan button is u sed to perform an immediate sear ch of the Ho mePlug devices connected to the Powerline network. By def ault, the utility automatically scans every few seconds and upd ates the display screen. A typical screen after naming and supplying passwords might appear as in Figure 3-5.

18 Four possi ble scenari os This section describes how t o add and remov e devices using HomePlug AV Simple Connect Technology and covers some o f the technical detail s of how the technology works. Case 1: Forming a Net work Two devices with different network membership k ey (NM K) values are connected to the same powerline.
19 Case 2: Joining a Net wor k In this scenario a network exists. The user wants a new device, the ‘joiner’, to join the network. Any device on the ex isting network can become the ‘adder’. 1. Press the Netw or k I D b utton on the ‘joiner’ f or less than 3 seconds.
20 Case 3: Leaving a Net w ork A network exists. The user w ants to remove one dev ice, the ‘leaver’, from that networ k , for whatever reason. He may want to remove the device from service altogether or have it join another logical network. 1. Press the Network ID but ton on the ‘leav er ’ for at least 10 seconds.
21 Case 4: Join Multiple D evices t o a Net w ork To add several new devices to an ex ist ing network, the p roces s in Case 2 must be repeat ed for each ‘joiner’.
