1. Introduction Congratulations on purchasing the IPS-0008, an intel ligent power management system. The I PS-0008 provides the useful ability of managing power for any combinatio n of network eq uipment connected to it.

1.3. Hardware Components T ake a moment to familiarize you with the IPS-0008 front and rear panels. The following sections p ro v ide descri ptions about the front and rear panel compo nents and h o w to use them.
Component Description 5 Reset button Enables you to reset the IPS-0008 in case the syst em lo cks up. 6 Operation mode DIP switch Sets the mode of operation for the IPS-0008. S1 off, S2 of f: Normal operation (default mode) 7 Serial (CONSOLE) port Enables you to configure the IPS-0008 using the serial port.
1.3.2. St atus Indicator The front panel of the IPS-0008 h as se veral LED indicators that provide information about the input and output p owe r status. 1.3.3. Using the control buttons Y ou can turn on power manually for each of the eight output devices with the control buttons provided unde r ea ch status indi cat or A through H. Each button allows you to set the remo te control function as well as turn power on/off for ea ch outlet manually .
Power on/off mode 1. Press the control button twice. The outlet power indicator st art s flashing green. 2. Now press control button a gain within 5 seconds and hold for more than 5 seconds. The outlet power indica tor start s flashing green at a faster speed and then invert s its origi nal state.
Rear Panel Component Component Description 1 Input power Connect to a power outlet. 2 Breaker Prevents excessive cu rren t flow to protect the system. 3 Power outlet (A ~ H) Connect a device to each power outlet to sup- ply power to it. 4 Dry contact p ort Connect dry cont act UPS that can b e remotely managed through network card .
2. Getting Started This section provides information about setting up the IPS-0008, connecting power , and conne cting devices to it before you start using it for power management. Read this se ction ca refully to learn how to connect various devices to it.
2.3. Making Connections The IPS-0008 is a versatile produc t that can be conn ected to several different type s of input and output devi ces. Thi s makes it a u seful tool for connecting devices to it and controlling t heir power on/of f st atus through its user interface.
The following procedure d escrib es the basic step s needed to set up the IPS-0008: 1. T o set up the hardware, connect power to the power inlet and output devices to the power outlets . Connect digit al outputs to the digital I/O port s, and an E MD to the console port.
2.4. Connecting Input Power The IPS-0008 has an IEC C20 power inl et for sup plying and managing power for the output devices. Connect the power cord to the power inlet and plug the other end into a p.
2.5. Connecting Output Devices The IPS-0008 has eight powe r outlet s for connecting devices such as workstations, serve rs, and printers. Their power on/of f status can be con- trolled manually as well as remotely through the LAN and Console ports.
2.7. Connecting EMD An environmental monito red device tha t is connected to sensors for detecting temperature, humidity , water l evel, and so on can be connected to the IPS-0008 with the console port. The EMD can also be connected to alarms or indicators an d co ntrolled through the IPS-0008.
2.8. Connecting The Console Y ou can control the output devices and manage their power st atus through a console or serial con nection with your PC. Use the se rial cable provided in your packa ge to con nect the COM port of your PC and the CONSOLE port of the IPS-0008 as sho wn.
2.9. Connecting T o a W AN The IPS-0008 has an RJ-45 LAN connec tion that enable s you to monitor and manage the power o utlet s and digit al outputs ove r the network. The IPS-0008 has a graphic user interface th at allows you to control the device through a web browser .
3. Using the Console Menu The IPS-0008 is provided with a serial port that enables you to conf igure and control the system through your PC’ s RS-232 serial (COM) po rt . Use the serial cable provided to con ne ct the con sole port to your P C’s COM port as described in “Con necting the console” on p age 15.
3. From the Connect using drop-down box, select the COM port that you have connected to the IPS-0008. Click OK when done. 4. The Properties window opens. Click Restore Default s to use the default settings. Make sure that the Bits per seco nd field is set to 9600.

3.2. Navigating Through the Console Menu Follow these step s to navi gate through the console menu to modi fy settings: T o select a submenu, type the number co rresponding to the submenu and press Enter . For example, to select the IPS-0008 Configuration menu, type 1 and press Enter .
The console menu consist s of the following submenus: IPS-0008 Configuration: This is the primary menu consi sting of various submenu s su ch as the system submenu for setting the IP address, date.
3.3. Setting the IP Address Follow these step s to set u p the IP address of the IPS-0008: 1. Using the steps d escribed under “Navigating through the console menu” on pa ge 18, navigate to the System Group under the IPS-0008 Configuration menu. 2.
4. Using the Web Interface The IPS-0008 provides a graphic use r i nterface that can be viewed from a web browser such as Internet Explore r . This enables you to access and control the IPS-0008 outlet s an d su bsequently , it’s output devices remotely from your desktop, laptop, PDA, or even your mobile phone.
The main page sho ws a graphic represent ation of the IPS-0008 outlet s and inputs st atus as described below: The left p ane shows the variou s menus and submenus for the IPS-0008. Click any menu to display the menu option s, exp and the menu items, and modify the menu options as required.
4.2. Modifying the Basic Settings The System menu enables you to configure the IPS-0008 system parameters such as th e administrator name, p assword, IP address, date, time, and so on. Some of these settings have been described he re for your reference.
4.2.2. Adding Users Click Multi-User under System to cr eate a list of users who can access and control the IPS-0008. Y ou can add users who can only view the IPS-0008 status or u sers who can change the outlet st atus of the IPS-0008.
4.2.3. Changing Event Alert Settings The IPS-0008 sends emai l or SNMP trap alerts to specified users whe n specific event s occu r . Use the following step s to set up these alert s Click T rap Receivers under System to set up a list of users or workstations who will be al erted with an SNMP trap m essage.
Click Email Notification under Sys- tem to set up a list of up to 8 users who will be alerted with an email. Use this menu to sp ecify the mail server , user account, DNS, and other information necessary to set up a mail server for sending mai l alerts.
4.3. Modifying Application Settings The following sections d escrib e how to use the Power Manageme nt and Environment menus to control the system input and o utput port s , as well as view the st atus of the EMD. 4.3.1. Setting Control Options Click Control under Power Manag ement to display the control options for the power and digital output s.
4.3.2. Setting Up a Schedule Click Schedule under Power Man agem ent to see a list of schedules for turning power outlet s on or off as desired . For instance, you may wa nt to turn on all the servers and the administrator’s workstation every Mon - day morning.
4.3.3. Stat us Click S tatus under Environment to s ee the st atu s of the EMD connected to the IPS-0008. The menu p age displays the temperature and humidity of the environment sensor , as well as the open/close conditions of the EMD alarms.

4.4. Power Cyc l e User can enable once power On/Of f to resta rt the crash device for each of the eight outlet with Power Cycl e button. This function will be worked when the stat us of outlet is powe r on. So, it connects to Power On/Of f button of the Manual Control.
