1 ABOUT THIS GUIDE Congratulations on you r purchase of LevelOne GSW-1 674T/2474T 16/24-Port 10/10 0/1000 Mb ps Gigabi t Ethernet Web Sm art Swi tch. This device integrates 1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet and 10Mbps Ethernet network capab ilities in a highly flexible package.
2 INTRODUCTION This chapter describ es the featur es of Levelone GSW-167 4T/2474T 16/24-port 10/100/1 000 Mbps Gigabit Et hernet Web S mart Switc h and some background information about Eth ernet/ Fast Ethernet/ Gigabit Ethernet switching technology. Gigabit Ethernet Technology Gigabit Ethernet is an extension of IEEE 802.
3 In addition, the phenomenal bandwid th delivered by Gigabit Ethernet is the most cost-e ffective method to ta ke advanta ge of today a nd tomorrow’s rapidly improvi ng swi tching a nd routi ng internet working technologies.
4 Switching Technology Another a pproach to pushing beyond the limits of Ethernet technology is the develo pment of s witching tech nology. A s witch brid ges Ethernet packets at the MAC address level of t he Ethernet prot ocol transmitting a mong con nected Ethernet or Fast Et hernet LAN segments.
5 VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) A VLAN is a group of e nd-stati ons that are n ot constraine d by their physical location and can communicate as if a c ommon broadcast domain, a LAN. The primary utility of using VLAN is to reduce latency and need for ro uters, using f aster switchi ng instead.

7 UNPACKING AND INSTALLATIO N This chapter provides unpacking and installation in formation for LevelOne GSW-1674 T/2474T. Unpacking Open the shipping cartons of the Switch and carefully unpacks its contents.
8 Leave at least 10cm of space at th e front and rear of the hub for ventilation. Install the Switch on a sturdy, level surface that can support its weight, or in an E IA standard -size equipm en t rack. Fo r information on rack installation, see the nex t section, Rack Mounting .
9 Connecting Network Cable LevelOne GSW-1674T/2474 T supports 1000Mbp s Gigabit Ethernet that runs in Auto-negot iation m ode and 10M bps Ether net or 100Mbps Fast Ethernet that runs b oth in half and f ull duplex m ode and 1000Mbps Gi gabit Ether net runs i n full dup lex mode usi ng four pai r of Category 5 Cable.

11 Rear Panel Figure 5. Rear panel of the Switch Power Switch: This is a switch where you can contro l to enable or disable the power. AC Power Connector: This is a three-pronged connecto r th at supports the power cord. Plug in the female conn ector of the provid ed power cord into this co nnector, and the male into a power outlet.

13 Ports 1~16/24 Status LEDs Link/ACT: Link/Activity On : When the Link/ACT LED lights on, the respective port is successfully connected to an Ethernet network. Blinking : When the Link/ACT LED is blinking, the port is transm itting or receiving data on the Ethernet network.
14 CONFIGURATION Through the Web Brow ser you can configu re GSW-1674 T/2474T such as VLAN, Tr unking, QoS… etc. With the attached Web Management Utilit y, you can easily discover all the Web M anagement S witch, assign the IP Ad dress, chan ging the password and upgrading the new firmware.

Web Management Utility The Web Management Utilit y was divided into four parts, Discovery List, Monitor List, Device Setting and Toolbar function , for details instruction, follow the below section. Discovery List This is the list where you can discover all the Web management devices in the entire network.
16 System word definitions in the Discovery List: z MAC Address: Shows the device MAC Address. z IP Address: Shows the cu rrent IP ad dress of the devi ce. z Protocol versi on: Shows the version of the Utility protocol. z Product Name: Shows the device prod uct name .
17 View Trap: The Trap func tion can receive the events that happen from the Web Managem ent Switch i n the Monit or List. There is a light indicator behind t he “Vie w Trap” button, when th e lig.
18 Device Setting You can set the device by using the function key in the Device Setting Dialog box. Configuration Setting: In this Configuration Setting, you can set the IP Address, Subnet Mask , Gateway, Set Trap t o (Trap IP Address), System name and Locati on.
19 Password Chan ge: You can use this Passw ord Change w hen you need to change th e password, fill in the password needed in the d ialog box and pres s “Set” button t o proceed the pass word change immediately.
20 Toolbar The toolbar in the Web Management Utility have four main tabs, File, View, Options and Help. In the “File TAB” , there are Moni tor Save, Moni tor Save As, Monitor Load an d Exit.
21 Configuring LevelO ne GSW-1674T/2474T LevelOne GSW-1674 T/2474T 16/24-p ort 10/100 /1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet Web Smart Switch has a Web GUI interface for sm art switch configuration. Th e Switch can be conf igured thro ugh the Web Browser. A ne twork adm inistrator can m anage, contr ol and m onitor the switch from the local LAN.
22 Or through the Web Manag ement Utility, you do not n eed to remember the IP Address, sel ect th e device shown in the M onitor List of the Web Management Utility to settl e the device on the Web Browser.

26 This setting determines whether or not GSW-167 4T/2474T will be handling flo w control. Set FlowCtrl to Enable fo r avoiding data transfer overflow. Or it sets to Disable ; t here is either no flow contro l or other ha rdware/so ftware managem ent.

28 Mirror Setting Port Mirro ring is a m ethod of m onitoring network t raffic that forwards a copy of each inc oming and/ or outgoin g packet from one port of a network swit ch to a nother port where the packet can be studied. It enables the manager to keep close track of switch performance and alter it if necessary.
29 Statistic The Statistic Menu screen will show the status of each port packet count. Figure 24. Statistic For Detail packet information, click on the ID parameter in Figure 24.
30 System Setting The System Setting includes the System name, Location name, Login Timeout, IP Address, Subn et Mask and Gateway. Through th e Web Management Utility, you can easily recogn ize the device by using the System Name and the Locati on Name.

32 If you forget the password, press th e “Reset” button in the rear panel of GSW-1674T/2474T, th e current setting includes VLAN, Port Setting… etc. will be lost and the Switch will restore to the default setting. 33 Note: when restoring a recorded file, the current password will not be erased. Reset Setting The Factory Reset button helps you to reset th e device back to the default setting from the factory. Be aware that the entire configuration will be reset, the IP address of the device will be set to default setting 192.
