Chapter 2. Important service information This chapter pr esents following important service information that applies t o all machine types supported by this manual: • “Str ategy for r eplacing FRU.
• If an adapter or a device consists of mor e than one FRU , any of the FRUs may be the cause of the err or . Before replacing the adapter or device, r emove the FRUs, one by one, to see if the symptoms change. Replace only the FRU that changed the sympt oms.
• eSupport will show both the CT O and CMV machine type models (Example: 1829-C T O and 1829-W15 will be found on the eSupport site.) • The HMM will have the 4-digit MT and 3-digit C TO model only (Example: 1829-C TO). Again, CMVs are custom models and are not found in the HMM.

Attention: If the user HDP has been forgott en, check whether a master HDP has been set. If it has, it can be used for access to the har d disk drive. If no mast er HDP is available, neither L enovo n.
T o r emove a user HDP that has been forgotten, when the SVP and the master HDP are known, do the following: 1. T urn on the comput er . 2. When the ThinkP ad logo comes up, immediately press F1 to ent er BIOS Setup Utility .
Note: E ven if you do not set the low-batt ery alarm, the char ge indicator noties you when the battery is low , and then the comput er enters the power -saving mode automatically . T o cause the comput er t o return fr om sleep (standby) mode and r esume oper ation, do one of the following: • P ress the Fn key .

The algorithm that gener ates the number is designed to pr ovide unique IDs until the year A.D . 3400. No two computers in the world have the same number . When you replace the syst em boar d, you must set the UUID on the new syst em board as follows: 1.

Chapter 8. Removing and r eplacing a FRU This chapter pr esents dir ections and drawings for use in r emoving and replacing a FRU . Be sure t o observe the following general rules: 1. Do not try to service any computer unless you have been trained and certied.
