General safety guidelines Always observe the following precautions to r educe the risk of injury and property damage. Chapter 1. About the Super Multi-burner drive This manual provides information on r egistering, installing, and using the ThinkPad ® Super Multi-burner Ultrabay ™ Slim Drive, and is available on th.
v Super Multi-burner drive v Carrying case v Quick Reference Guide v Laser Safety Guide Note: Y our kit might also contain a software update diskette. Contact your place of purchase if an item is missing or damaged. Be sur e to retain your proof of pur chase.
v Direct-to-Disc (DLA) This software enables you to write dir ectly to CD-RW , CD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , and DVD-R media using the drive letter like you would if you were writing to a diskette.
This software enables you to install softwar e for reading DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , and CD-R W media on computers with DVD drives. It also allows you to read DLA-created discs on systems without DLA installed. Note: Some graphics adapters such as the FIREGL, Intergraph, and 3dLabs, do not support DVD video playback.
Chapter 2. Using the Super Multi-burner drive This section provides information on how to handle, load, and car e for DVDs and CDs and how to care for your Super Multi-burner drive.
Loading a disc 1. Press the Eject button. The tray slides out of the drive. 2. Place a disc in the tray with the label facing up. 3. Close the tray by gently pushing the tray in until it latches. Attention: Do not use force or insert for eign objects to open the tray .
v Always store discs away fr om direct heat sour ces. v Remove discs from the computer when not in use. v Check discs for cracks BEFORE each use. IMPOR T ANT : Do not use discs that are cracked. v Do not force discs into the computer or packaging. v Do not bend or flex discs.
Using the tip of a ball point pen, push and break the lock pin tab 1 . To remove the disc, use a ball point pen to push down on the cartridge lid lock 2 and pull the cartridge lid out 3 . When the cartridge lid is open, the disc can be removed.
Using CD-Rs and CD-R Ws The Super Multi-burner drive can write to both CD-R and CD-R W discs. CD-R discs cannot be erased, but can be used with standard CD-ROM drives and CD players. Yo u can use CD-R discs to r ecord audio tracks, store data, ar chive files, and copy files from another CD.
8. Click Go. The software you selected will install silently . 9. Reboot after the completion message. Note: if the software fails to install silently , you can select interactive installs of individual packages from the bottom line of the installer page.
4. W indows 2000: Yo u must install service pack 2 or higher , and DirectX. 5. W indows NT : Yo u must install Service Pack 6 along with Internet Explorer 5, DirectX, and a thir d party IDE DMA driver . This configuration is not supported due to Microsoft not pr oviding any official DirectX for W indows NT .
Enabling DMA This section explains enabling the DMA setting with W indows 2000 and W indows XP . For Windows 2000 1. Click Start , move the cursor to Settings , and click Control Panel . 2. Double-click System . 3. Click the Hardware tab. 4. Click the Device Manager button.
Using Direct-to-disc (DLA) Direct-to-disc (DLA) is pr ovided so that you can write data to DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , DVD-R, DVD+RW , DVD+R, CD-R, and CD-R W media. DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , DVD+RW , and CD-R W media can be written to many times, while DVD-R, DVD+R, and CD-R media can only be formatted and written to once.
To start Multimedia Center for Think Offerings in W indows Me or W indows 2000, select Start → Programs → Multimedia Center for Think Offerings . To start Multimedia Center for Think Offerings in W indows XP , select Start->All Programs->Multimedia Center for Think Of ferings-> Multimedia Center Home.
CDs. All other disc formats requir e GI images. Saved DVD images can be as large as 9GB, and CD images as large as 730MB. Ensur e that you have adequate hard disk space before pr oceeding. To make a CD or DVD Image: 1. Start the MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings.
