General safety guidelines Always observe the following precautions to r educe the risk of injury and property damage. Service Do not attempt to service a product yourself unless instr ucted to do so by the Customer Support Center . Use only a service provider who is appr oved to repair your particular product.
Do not bend or modify the plug. If the plug is damaged, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement. Some products ar e equipped with a three-pronged plug. This plug fits only into a gr ounded electrical outlet. This is a safety feature. Do not defeat this safety featur e by trying to insert it into a non-grounded outlet.
CD and DVD drive safety CD and DVD drives spin discs at a high speed. If a CD or DVD is cracked or otherwise physically damaged, it is possible for the disc to break apart or even shatter when the CD drive is in use.

Chapter 1. USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive This chapter contains instructions for installing the Lenovo USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive. Product description The USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive is a slimline DVD and CD recor dable drive that attaches quickly and conveniently to your computer through a simple connection.

Chapter 4. USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner hardware installation and removal in Windows 2000 and W indows XP W indows 2000 and W indows XP operating systems have the native drivers for the USB 2.
Windows XP 1. Exit the program that uses the drive. 2. Confirm that the W rite indicator of the drive is off. 3. Click the Remove icon on the tray . 4. Select removing drive. In this case, select the drive name assigned to the drive (D: in this figur e).
Chapter 5. Using the USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive This section provides information on how to handle, load, and car e for your media and your USB 2.
v Always store discs away fr om direct heat sources. v Remove discs from the computer when not in use. v Check discs for cracks BEFORE each use. IMPOR T ANT : Do not use discs that are cracked. v Do not force discs into the computer or packaging. v Do not bend or flex discs.
CD-R W discs can be erased and rewritten, but can be used only with newer Multi-Read and CD-R W -compatible CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives. Yo u can use CD-RW discs to back up, stor e, and update files or to copy files from another CD. Notes: 1. CD-R discs are playable on audio CD players.
Using Direct-to-disc Direct-to-disc is pr ovided so that you can write data to CD-R, CD-RW , DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , and DVD-R media. DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , CD-R W , DVD-R, and CD-R media can be written to many times (data on DVD-R and CD-R media may be appended until these discs are full).
you can capture new video or use video files you alr eady have, and then finish your movie by creating a customized menu. Y our movie can be created in either +VR or –VR video formats. Through Disk Manager , you can edit your movie at any time, adding or deleting video segments or changing your customized menu.

Windows XP In W indows Media Player , you will find Digital Playback check box when you click the CD Audio tab in the Properties window , as shown in the following figure.
In addition, you will find the Enable Digital Music CD with this USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive check box on the USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner property on Device Manager , as shown in the figure below . When there is no setting item for the digital playback in your player softwar e, try the above setting.
Note: The windows above may differ depending on the versions of your operating system. Refer to the instruction manual for your computer or operating system for details. Using WinDVD After you install the Super Multi-burner drive and W inDVD software, you can view a DVD movie.
Operating system support The prer equisites for W inDVD to work are Internet Explor er 5 and DirectX 8.1. These components are not present in all Micr osoft Operating systems. This section list steps that are requir ed to update the differ ent operating systems to allow DVD playback.
Starting WinDVD To start W inDVD, complete the following procedur e: 1. Click Start . 2. Click Programs . 3. Click InterV ideo WinDVD to open the DVD movie player window . For more information on how to play the DVD movie player , refer to the W inDVD help information on the USB 2.
4. Insert the disc which you are copying. 5. Press the Record button. Note: Copy protected commer cial DVDs cannot be copied. Note: Copying or imaging discs without the copyright owner ’s permission can result in legal penalties. For more information on copyright law , consult your legal advisor .
