Chapter 1. Product overview This chapter provides an overview of the tablet, including the locations of connectors and controls, tablet features, accessories, specications, and operating envir onment.
• Blink three times : The tablet or the keyboar d dock is connected to an ac power source. • On : The tablet is on and in use. • Off : The tablet is off or in hibernation mode. • Slow blinking : The tablet is in sleep mode. • F ast blinking : The tablet is entering hibernation mode or sleep mode.
2 Mini DisplayP ort connector Use the mini DisplayP ort connect or to connect the tablet t o a compatible pr ojector , e xternal monitor , or high-denition television.

3 P ower button Pr ess the power button to turn on the tablet. T o turn off the tablet, swipe in fr om the right edge of the scr een to display the charms. Then tap Settings ➙ P ower ➙ Shut down . If the tablet stops responding and you cannot turn it off, pr ess and hold the power button for four seconds or more.

Chapter 2. Using your tablet This chapter pr ovides instructions on how to use some basic applications and many of your tablet’ s featur es. Initial setup instructions T o use the tablet the rst time after you take it out of the box, ensur e that you follow the instructions below: 1.
Using the On-Screen K eyboard and the T ouch K eyboard Use the On-Screen Keyboar d or the T ouch Keyboard to type t ext, numbers, symbols, and other char acters. When you r otate the tablet, the On-Screen Keyboar d or the T ouch Keyboar d automatically r otates to the corresponding portrait or landscape view .
Downloading games and applications T o ext end the functionality of your tablet, download and install additional applications from the Windows Stor e and Lenovo App Stor e. Both Windows Stor e and Lenovo App Stor e pr ovide an easy and quick way for you t o shop for games and mobile applications.
T o release the tablet fr om the keyboar d dock, do the following: 1. P ress the eject butt on in the direction as shown. 2. Remove the tablet fr om the keyboar d dock.
T o use tablet mode when you move around with the tablet and the keyboard dock, do the following: 1. P osition the tablet as shown. Then, insert the tablet int o the keyboard dock until the tablet is secur ed in place. 2. Slowly and carefully close the tablet display .
Note: When the micr ophones ar e muted, the LED on the F4 k ey is on. Screen control • Brightness down • Brightness up Application control • Open the Settings charm • Open the Sear ch charm .
Using the ThinkP ad pointing device The keyboard dock comes with the ThinkP ad pointing device. The ThinkP ad pointing device consists of the T rackP oint pointing stick 1 and the t ouch pad 2 , each of which is itself a pointing device with both basic and e xtended functions.
T o char ge the batt ery, connect the power cord, ac power adapt er , and the tablet as shown. Then, plug the ac power adapter into a standard ac power outlet. T o char ge the battery, you also can connect the power cord, ac power adapt er , and the keyboar d dock as shown.
Extending the battery life between char ges When you are traveling outdoors with your tablet and ac power is not available, you can e xtend the battery life by doing the following: • T urn off Wi-Fi, mobile data network, GPS, and Bluetooth when not in use.
Using the camer as Y our tablet has two camer as, a fr ont-facing camera and a r ear-facing camer a. The r ear-facing camer a has an auto-focus featur e that enables you t o captur e high-quality pictur es and videos. T o launch a camer a and congur e the camer a settings, do the following: 1.
Chapter 3. Wireless networks and devices Y our tablet can connect t o a variety of networks and devices, including mobile networks (3G or 4G), Wi-Fi data networks, Bluet ooth devices, and NFC-enabled devices.
T o install a SIM car d, do the following: 1. T urn off the tablet. 2. Insert a straight ened paper clip into the hole of the SIM car d tr ay . The tr ay ejects. Slide the tray out. 3. Place the SIM car d into the SIM car d tr ay as shown until the SIM card is hooked.
Connecting to a mobile data network A SIM card is requir ed to connect to a mobile network. Refer to “Installing and r emoving the SIM card” on page 23 for instructions on how t o install a SIM card. Note: Some tablets support access to Wi-Fi networks only .
Connecting to a Wi-Fi network T o establish a Wi-Fi network connection, do the following: 1. Swipe in from the right edge of the scr een t o display the charms. 2. T ap the Settings charm. 3. T ap the network icon. A list of available Wi-Fi networks is displayed.
2. In the Set up hotspot section, choose the network to share, cr eate a name and a password for your mobile hotspot, and then select a security option. 3. T ap Start Sharing to turn your tablet into a mobile hotspot. Then other users can connect t o your network by entering the correct mobile hotspot name and passwor d.
Note: The invit ed user will be dir ected to the dened W eb site addr ess when the user is connect ed to your hotspot. 6. In the T ap to Share section, tap the invitation message t o send an invitation notication to the user you want to invite.
Chapter 4. Security This chapt er pr ovides information about the tablet security . Attaching a mechanical lock Y ou can attach a mechanical lock to the keyboard dock to prevent the tablet fr om being removed without your permission. T o attach a mechanical lock to the k eyboard dock, do the following: 1.
Entering passwords If this icon is displayed, ent er a power-on password or a supervisor passwor d. If this icon is displayed, ent er a user hard disk passwor d. If this icon is displayed, enter a supervisor password. P ower-on passwor d Y ou can set a power -on password to protect your tablet against access by unauthoriz ed users.
If a user hard disk passwor d has been set, but no mast er hard disk password has been, the user must enter the user har d disk password in or der t o gain access t o les and pr ograms on the mSA T A solid-state drive. The mast er password can be set and used only by a system administrat or .
or r ecover data from the mSA T A solid-stat e drive. Y ou must take your tablet to a Lenovo reseller or a marketing r epresentative t o have the mSA T A solid-state drive replaced. Pr oof of pur chase is requir ed, and a fee will be char ged for parts and service.
• If a supervisor password is set, a password pr ompt is displayed when you try to start the ThinkP ad Setup progr am. Unauthoriz ed users cannot get access to congur ation data. • The system administr ator can use the supervisor password t o get access to a computer even if the user of that computer has set a power -on password.

2. Save all open les, and e xit all applications. 3. T urn your tablet off and then turn it on again. 4. When the logo scr een is displayed, tap “T o interrupt normal startup, press Enter”. The Boot Menu window opens. 5. T ap the Application Menu tab.
Using r ewalls If your system is preinstalled with a r ewall pr ogram, it protects against comput er Int ernet security thr eats, unauthorized access, intrusions, and Int ernet attacks. It also prot ects your privacy . F or more information about how to use the r ewall pr ogram, refer to the online help that comes with the progr am.
Chapter 5. Recover y overview This section pr ovides information about the r ecovery solutions. Refreshing your tablet If your tablet does not perform well and the pr oblem might be caused by a recently installed pr ogram, you can r efresh your tablet without losing your personal les or changing your settings.

Chapter 8. T roubleshooting problems This chapter describes on what to do if you e xperience a problem with your tablet. Diagnosing problems If you experience problems with your tablet, use the L enovo Solution Center pr ogram as a starting point for solving them.
1. Ensur e that your hands are clean and dry when touching the scr een. 2. Restart your tablet t o try again. If the pr oblem persists, contact L enovo for technical support. Battery problem Problem : The battery does not charge corr ectly . Suggested solution : Check if the ac power adapt er is connected corr ectly .
If you still encount er the same problem aft er you r estart your tablet, r eset your tablet and r estart it again, you can perform a fact ory data reset oper ation. F or more information, r efer to “Resetting your tablet to the factory default settings” on page 37.
Errors without messages • Problem : My screen k eeps blanking when I do not want it to. Solution : Y ou can disable any system timers, such as the L CD turn-off timer or the blank timer by doing the following: 1. Start P ower Manager . 2. T ap the P ower plan tab, and then select Maximum P erformance fr om the predened power plans.
