Chapter 1. Safety information This chapter presents following safety information that you need t o be familiar with before you service a ThinkP ad Notebook.
Important: Use only appr oved t ools and test equipment. Some hand tools have handles cover ed with a soft material that does not insulat e you when working with live electrical currents. Many customers have, near their equipment, rubber oor mats that contain small conductive bers t o decrease electr ostatic discharges.

Chapter 2. Important service information This chapter pr esents following important service information that applies t o all machine types supported by this manual: • “Str ategy for r eplacing FRU.
Strat egy for replacing a hard disk drive Always try t o run a low-level format befor e r eplacing a hard disk drive. This will cause all customer data on the hard disk to be lost. Be sur e that the customer has a current backup of the data befor e doing this task.

On the BIOS Setup Utility screen, pr ess F9, Enter , F10, and then Enter . Note: When you initialize the computer congur ation, some devices are disabled, such as the serial port. If you test one of these devices, you will need t o enable it by using Congur ation utility for DOS.

Lenovo Solution Center The Lenovo Solution Center pr ogram enables you to tr oubleshoot and resolve computer pr oblems. It combines diagnostic tests, system information collection, security status, and support information, along with hints and tips for maximum syst em performance.
4. Use the arr ow keys t o select Lenovo Diagnostics and then press Enter . The main screen of the UEFI diagnostic progr am is displayed. 5. F ollow the instructions on the screen to use the diagnostic pr ogram.
Lenovo ThinkV antage T oolbo x Lenovo ThinkV antage ® T oolbo x is a diagnostic progr am that works through the Windows oper ating system. It enables you t o view sympt oms of computer pr oblems and .

Undetermined problems If the diagnostic tests did not identify the adapter or device that has failed, if wrong devices ar e installed, or if the system simply is not oper ating, follow these pr ocedures to isolate the failing FRU (do not isolate FRUs that have no defects).

1010 Battery pack Important notice for replacing a battery pack: ThinkV antage T oolbo x has an automatic battery diagnostic that det ermines if the battery pack is defective. A battery pack FRU should not be replaced unless this diagnostic shows that the battery is defective.
