Important ❒ When the printer is being shared by multiple com puters, be careful not to accidentally can c el someone else's print job.

Paper and Other Media 24 3 Paper Recommendat ions Note the following suggestions when handling or selecting paper used with this printer. Loading paper Important ❒ Do not u se paper that is m eant for an ink-jet printer. Th is paper may st ick to the fusi ng unit a nd cause a paper mi sfeed.
Paper and Other Media Supported by This Printer 25 3 ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Thick paper • If you print on paper heavier than 105 g/m 2 (28 lb) (up to 160 g/m 2 (43 lb)), use the standard tray or the Paper Cassette Type204 (option). The print quality on pape r that is thicker cannot be guaranteed.

Note ❒ The number of s heets that can be loaded may vary dep ending on the pa- per thic kness and paper ty pe. • Make sure that the stack of paper is not higher than the OHP FILM upper limit mark ( T ) inside the tray.

Error & Status Messages 37 4 Check Tray2 Connection The paper feed unit (option) is not installed correctly. Install the paper feed unit correctly. ⇒ the "Setup Guide" that comes with the prin ter Chg. Cleaner The fuser cleaner is dirty.

Remove the misfed pa per. ⇒ P.56 “ When the Message "Open Rear Cover Remove Misfeed " Appears ” Paper Size Error There is a difference be tween the paper siz e in the tray an d the requested paper s ize from the computer.
Error & Status Messages 39 4 A3:Error There is too much data f or the I/O buffer to handle. Check if the interface cab le is inserted into the printer and the computer secure ly. Check if the interface cab le is da maged or brok en. Increase the siz e of the I/O buffer .

Other Printing Problems 51 4 It takes too much t ime to start printing . The data is s o large or complex that it takes time to process. If the Data In indicator is blinking, the d ata processing is be- ing done. Just wait until it r esumes. The Energy Saver mode might be enabled.
Troubleshooting 52 4 Image density is too light. Turning on [ Toner Saving ] can ca use blurring or fine lines not to be printed. With color printing, t oner saving can cause ab- normal coloring. Try printing again after turning [ T oner Sav- ing ] off.
Other Printing Problems 53 4 Note ❒ If you c annot solve th e problem by taking the above actions, co ntact you r sales or service re presentative. Changing the color se ttings with the printer d r iver causes a drastic change in printout color.
Troubleshooting 54 4 Removing Misf ed Paper When a paper misfeed occurs, an er- ror message appears on the pan el dis- play. The p rocedure you should follow to remove mi s fed paper de- pends o n the loca tion of the mi sfeed indicated on the pane l display.

Troubleshooting 56 4 When the Message "Open Rear Cover Remove Misfeed" Appears Important ❒ Toner print ed on misfe d paper is not fused and can make your hands or clothing dirty. Take care to avoid contact with the toner as you r emove misfe d pap er.

Important ❒ After cleaning is finis h ed, re- turn the wire cle aner to its orig- inal position. F Inse rt the photo con duct or unit so that the protrudin g axles on both sides are aligned with the tracks inside the green lock levers.

Troubleshooting 64 4 Adjustin g the Sett ing of Registra tion of the Paper Tray Adju sting the re gistra tion re fers to changing the position of the printed image on paper fed from the o ptional tray so it matches th at of the standard tray. Probably you will never need to perfor m this proc edure.

Troubleshooting 68 4 F Close the front cover. Press the center of the co ver until it locks securely into place. The “ Add Toner ” m essage clear s from the pane l disp lay and the printer starts warmi ng up.
Replacing Consumables 69 4 Note ❒ Before removing the photoconduc- tor unit f rom the printer, spread paper or some other material around the area you are work ing to keep the toner from makin g the floor dirty. ❒ The “ Change PCU ” mes sage is based on a printed page counter kept internally by the printer.
Troubleshooting 70 4 F Remove the left an d right pins from the new photoconductor unit. G Remove the protective sheet from the new photoco nductor u nit. Note ❒ The white powder on the photo- conductor u nit is to protect it af- ter in stal lati on into the pri nte r.
Replacing Consumables 71 4 J Close the top cover and front cov- er. Press the center of the top cov- er and front cover until they lock into place. Note ❒ If the printer is equipped with the paper fee d unit (optional) and the duplex u nit (optional), close the upper portion of the duplex unit .
Troubleshooting 72 4 Replacing the Fu ser Oil Bo ttle and Ozone Filt er Replace the oil bottle and ozone filter whenever the following messages ap - pear on the panel disp lay. IPDL-C Add FuserOil Add Fuser Oil The Fuser Oi l Type204 inclu d es a fus- er oil bottle and ozone filter.
Replacing Consumables 73 4 C Insert the new oil bottle into the printer. When insertin g, the side with the label shou ld be facing to- wards you, and th e mouth of the bottle facing d own. Rota te the lock levers back to their origi nal positions to lock the bottle in place.
Troubleshooting 74 4 Prior to moving and transporting the printer Before moving and transporting the printer, be sure to remove the fuser oil bottle, and then remove an d wipe out any residu al oil from the printer. A Slide the top cover open lever to- wards the fr ont of the printer, and open the top cover.
Replacing Consumables 75 4 F Stuff some clea n, wadd ed pap er towels into th e space where the oil bottle was installed so that any residual oil is absorbed. G Close the top cover. Replacing the Waste Toner Bottle Replace the waste toner bottle when- ever the follow ing message s appear on the panel display.
Troubleshooting 76 4 C Angling the waste toner bottle as shown in th e illustration, pull it out of waste tone r bottle holder. D Remove the sticker from the side of the new waste toner bottle and use it to seal the old waste toner bottle.
Replacing Consumables 77 4 B Rotate the lock levers to release the lock. C Grasping the fuser cleaner by its tab, remove it from the prin ter. D With its roller facing towa rd you, install a new fuser cleane r into the printer. E While pressin g down on the fus er cleaner, turn the lock levers to their original positions.
Troubleshooting 78 4 J After confirming that “ Fuser Cleaner ” i s on the display, press { { { { #Enter } } } } . The fuser clea ner reins tal l screen appears. <Fuser Cleane r> Press # key K Press { { { { #Enter } } } } . This perfo rms the rei nstal l opera - tion and returns to the “ Mainte- nance ” menu.

Using the Operation Panel Though th e factory default settings of the printer are suitable for most prin ting jobs, th e printer m enu gives y ou access to a number o f setting s that control bas ic printer operations. The printer menu settings you make are retained even when you turn off th e printer.
