2 Thank you f or purchasing the Minolta DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO . The DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO AF- 5000 is a Multiple f or mat film scanner capable of scanning 35mm, 120/220 (6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9). This manual has been designed to help y ou understand the operation of your scanner .

14 REMO VING THE OPTICS LOCKING SCREW Bef ore using the scanner for the first time , remove the optics locking scre w on the bottom panel of the scanner with a flat- head screwdriv er . As the remov ed locking screw is necessary when transpor ting the scanner , inser t it into the storage posistion, f or future use.

16 USING THE SCSI INTERF A CE Setting the SCSI ID 1. T urn off the computer and all connected SCSI devices. 2. T urn the SCSI terminator switch (Dip switc h 4) to ON. 3. Confirm which SCSI IDs are not being used. 4. Set the SCSI ID using the upper or lo wer SCSI ID select buttons.

DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 19 USING THE IEEE 1394 INTERF A CE The driver software only supports IEEE1394 connection with Windo ws®2000, Windows®Me and Macintosh OS. This scanner has been packaged with the IEEE 1394 cab le. For details , refer to the page 106.

DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 31 35MM FILM HOLDER FH-P1 Use the FH-P1 f or 35mm negatives and unmounted 35mm slide film. • The 35mm Film Holder FH-P1 can hold film str ips up to 6 frames long. • Blow dust off the film before placing it into the film holder .
32 LO ADING THE FILM HOLDER SLIDE MOUNT HOLDER SH-P1 • The slide mount holder SH-P1 can hold up to 4 mounted slides (35mm). • Slide mounts must be thicker than 1mm and thinner than 2mm to fit properly into the holder . • Blow dust off the slide before placing it into the film holder .

Place the attachment with the button side up at the position on the holder that is suited f or the attachment you selected and fix it aligning with the two groov es on the left side until it clicks .
34 Removing a Film While pressing the button on the lo wer side of the attachment, lift the film cov er . Removing an Attac hment While sliding the le ver on the middle par t of the holder to the right, lift the attachment.

Place the attachment with the button side up at the position on the holder that is suited f or the attachment you selected and fix it aligning with the two groov es on the left side until it clicks .
Multi-format attac hment (sold separately , HA-P3) Purchasing the Multi-f or mat attachment, sold separately , will enable you to deal with a wider range of films such as a 16mm film. Multi-f or mat attachment (HS-P1) The f ollowing contents should be included in this package .

42 INDEX SCAN WINDO W When 35mm is selected in the film f or mat, inde x scan displays a scan of each image on the film holder in the Inde x tab. The time required for an inde x scan depends on the performance of your computer .
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 43 CHANGING THE WINDO W SIZE Change the size of the Inde x tab window as desired. The position of the frames will change accordingly . 1. Clic k on the corner tab (lower-right corner) and drag to reach the desired size . MAKING AN INDEX SCAN 1.
44 SCANNING THE IMA GE SELECTING THE FRAMES 1. Clic k on an image to select it for scanning. • Selected images are surrounded by a dark gre y frame. 2. Clic k on to scan the selected image (s). • The image will be opened in your photo application software when the scanner ’ s dr iv er software is closed.

Select the desired frames, then clic k on , or , . • Each time the selected frames will rotate in 90 ° increments either clockwise or counter-cloc kwise, and flip ve r tically or hor izontally . • Rotating and Flipping the inde x frames will not affect the Prescan or Scan.
46 SA VING THE INDEX SCAN IMA GE When perf or ming the inde x scan, all the thumbnail images displa yed in the inde x window can be sav ed as an image file. 1. Clic k on in the Main window . • The standard file sav e dialog bo x for each operating system will appear .

54 FULL SCREEN VIEW This function allows y ou to display the entire prescanned image in the Prescan tab . 1. Clic k on . • The prescan image is magnified so that it fits in the Main window . • When [Full-Screen] button is clic ked again, the prescan image retur ns to the pre vious size .
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 55 Use the grab b utton to scroll an enlarged image. • The grab b utton can only be selected when the image has been magnified bey ond the limits of the Prescan tab . SCR OLLING THE IMA GE 1. Click on in the Prescan image display area.
56 AE Lock allo ws you to loc k an auto exposure v alue. Once the auto e xposure is locked, the m ultiple images on the same film will be scanned with the same e xposure settings when performing the prescan and the final scan.

Press the Shift key . • The AE area is indicated by an unbrok en line, whereas the cropping area is indicated by a dashed line .
58 CROPPING The cropping frame defines how m uch of the prescan image will be scanned. The dimensions of the cropping frame are displa yed in the low er left cor ner of the Prescan tab . T o enlarge or reduce the size of the cropping frame … Click on the cr opping frame and drag the pointer in or out.
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 59 CROPPING THE IMA GE CROPPING THE PRESCAN IMA GE A more precise prescan image can be displa yed by prescanning the cropped area again. 1. Click on . • After the cropped area is prescanned again, a more precise prescan image is displa yed.
60 FOCUS The DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO uses the CCD sensor f or autofocus . A utofocus uses the centre of the image to determine focus . Nor mally , this results in an e xcellent scan because the film plane is flat. Howe ver , if the film is war ped or curled, or if A utofocus is turned off in the preferences , focus ma y not be accurate.

DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 65 T ONE CUR VES AND HIST OGRAM When the T one cur v es/Histogram Correction button is clic ked, the T one Curves and Histogr am dialog bo x is display ed. The T one Cur v es par t allows you to change the tone curves and directly correct the output val u e.
66 T ONE CUR VES AND HIST OGRAM CORRECTING THE T ONE CUR VES Changing the shape of a correction cur v e changes the output le vel f or each corresponding input lev el. Changing the shape of the red, green, or b lue cur ves aff ects colour balance of the image.
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 67 T ONE CUR VES AND HIST OGRAM SETTING THE WHITE, BLA CK OR GREY POINTS White point (highlight point) indicates the section you w ant to lighten, Black point (shado w point) the section you want to darken, and Grey the section y ou want to ha ve as neutral tone .
68 T ONE CUR VES AND HIST OGRAM Setting the Grey point This function can specify the point to be changed to gre y in the image. 1. Click on . • The cursor changes to the gre y dropper shape. 2. Click the point to be changed to grey in the image. • The image is corrected so that the point you clic ked is gre y point.
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 69 T ONE CUR VES AND HIST OGRAM CORRECTING THE HIST OGRAM The input slide bar has the Input shadow slider , Input gamma slider and Input Highlight slider . The output slide bar has the Output Highlight slider and Output shadow slider .
70 BRIGHTNESS / CONTRAST / COLOUR B ALANCE Brightness, Contrast adjusts the brightness and contrast of the whole image. By adjusting the ratio of each RGB colour , you can correct the greenness or redness of the whole image, as well as o verlapping of cer tain colors (colour ov erlap).

Drag each Brightness, Contrast or Colour balance (R, G, B) slider , or input the desired value in the text bo x. • The change will be reflected in the prescan image. • Moving the Brightness, Contrast or Colour balance (R, G, B) slider changes “ P ost-Correction Greyscale ” and “ Correction Result LUT ” .
72 HUE / SA TURA TION / LIGHTNESS Y ou can adjust the 3 colour elements Hue (tone of colour), Saturation (vividness), and Lightness (br ightness) separately . This is suitable f or when the colour seems dull and you wish to add vividness. It is necessar y to choose a good combination of Hue, Saturation, and Lightness .
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 73 A UTO SETTING When [A uto Setting] button is click ed, the saturation of the image is corrected automatically without changing the hue and lightness. HUE / SA TURA TION / LIGHTNESS RESET If you clic k [Reset] button, the settings in the current correction window are reset.
74 SELECTING THE ITEM T O BE CORRECTED Colour Balance , brightness, contrast and saturation can all be selected f or correction in the V ariations screen.Howe v er , colour balance and saturation are not a vailab le when using the monochrome film. 1. DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 75 V ARIA TION CORRECTION COLOUR B ALANCE CORRECTION Six images that hav e been corrected by one-step in each RGBCMY direction the centre current image are displa yed. 1. Select colour balance . • The corrected 6 frames of v ar iation images are displa yed.
76 SA TURA TION CORRECTION T wo images with saturation correction are display ed on the right and left sides of the centre image. The v ariation image on the left side shows reduced saturation, and on the right side shows increased saturation. 1. Click the image in the direction y ou want to correct, except for the ima ge in the centre.
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 77 This f eature separates the colour region into 7 groups, Red, Green, Blue , Cyan, Magenta, Y ellow and Black. Y ou can adjust the colour range of each processed colour Cyan, Magenta, Y ellow , and Blac k against the separate colour groups.

Drag the Amount, Radius, Threshold level or Dark P ar t Pr otection level slider or input the desired value in the te xt box. • The value s from 0 to 500 f or the Amount, from 0.1 to 5 f or the Radius and from 0 to 255 for the Threshold lev el or Dark Part Protection lev el can be input respectively .
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 79 Amount: If you adjust the slider to increase (to the right), Pix els increasing the lev el of contrast will become larger . If you increase the value too m uch, Pixelation (the Pix els image becoming noticeably rough) will occur .
80 SNAPSHO T When the Snapshot button is clic ked, the current prescan image is stored in the Snapshot Displa y Area temporarily and display ed as a thumbnail. When the thumbnail in the Snapshot Displa y Area is double-click ed, that image is display ed in the Prescan tab .
DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 81 CANCELLING THE IMA GE CORRECTION CANCELLING THE IMA GE CORRECTION When is click ed, the current image correction is cancelled and the image retur ns to the pre vious one. REDO THE CORRECTION When is click ed, the cancelled image correction can be resumed.

DiMA GE Scan Multi PRO 89 The images of de veloped film are composed of high-density gr ains. These grains sometimes clump together so that the images look rough. This function detects the grains when scanning and equalizes them. So , a shar p and smooth image can be obtained ev en when a 35mm image is magnified DIGIT AL GEM 5.
