A-61510 Ja nuary 2005 1-3 Image output s i800 Series Scanners can return bi -tonal, grayscale or color imag es to the host. Below is a description of the valid combinatio ns. All i800 Scanners are duplex scanners. This means both the front and the rear side of each document may be captured.

Level rules are an automated way to control document image addressi ng based on the level of the previous document.

Some applications have a requireme nt to store part of an image in color or grayscale and th e rest of the image in bi-tonal format (this saves stora ge space by not storin g the entire image in color or grayscale).

A-61510 January 2005 2-31 Programmable keys There are three programmable keys on the Operato r Control Panel of the scanner . These key s can be assigned functions by the host application. Programmable keys are av ailable for use by the operator when the scanner is enabled.
A-61510 January 2005 2-32 Patch Reading Patch reading allows you to change image add ress (IA) information for a document on the fly , without any host PC or Operator Control Panel intervention. All documents with p atch codes are imaged and cannot be automatically deleted by the scan ner .
A-61510 January 2005 2-33 T ransfer Patch Code The image header reflect s when a T ransfer patch code is detected on a document. A T ransfer pat ch is conside red to be a Level 0 document. The IA level for the next document following the T ransfer patch is assig ned to the level (Level 2 or Level 3) that has been previously set.
A-61510 January 2005 2-34 When an additional p atch is detected, this document is considered a Level 0 document and will not cause the IA to change. Th e image header indicates that this is an ad ditional patch document by returni ng a patch type, which ma tches the patch detected.
A-61510 January 2005 3-1 3 Using the TW AIN Dat a Source Inst allation The TW AIN Dat a Source is included with the scanne r . Y ou can install the data source from the CD. 1. Insert the CD into the drive. 2. Double-click the setup.exe file. 3. Follow the instructions on each screen as prompted.

A-61510 January 2005 3-1 1 Threshold thresholding is used to co nvert a grayscale image into a bi-tonal (1 bit/pixel) image. The thresholding value ran ges from 0 to 255. A low threshold value produces a lighte r image, and can be used to subdue backgrounds an d subtle, unneeded information.
A-61510 January 2005 3-12 Resolution or dot s per inch (dpi) indi cates the scanning resoluti on, which largely determine s the quality of the scanned image. The greater the resolution, the better the reprod uction. However , scanning at a higher resolution also increase s scanning time and file size.

A-61510 January 2005 3-17 Cropping values Cropping allows you to capture a po rtion of the document being scanned. Y ou can define the cropping ar ea by the x and y offset values, width and length. All cropping options can be used with color and bi-tonal images and are front/rear and dual stream independent.
A-61510 January 2005 3-18 Original Bi-tonal image Relative Cropping Y ou can enter the desired v alues in the fields or use the arro w keys to define the desired area. The Display window will show image placement as you change the values. If a relative cropping zone falls outside the a uto-cropped image, a message will be d isplayed.
A-61510 January 2005 3-19 Wid th — the width of the scanning area. Length — the length of the scanning area. If Overscan is not sele cted, the scanner will not continue ca pt uring beyond the trail edge of the document.

If you have an i810 or i830 scanner , only Front Bi-tonal and Rear Bi-tonal will be displayed.

A-61510 January 2005 3-22 The Dropout t ab Electronic Color Dropout is used to eliminate a form’ s background so that a document management system may automatically (through OCR and ICR technology) read pertinent dat a without interference from the lines and boxes of the form.
A-61510 January 2005 3-23 Background this value will be substituted in the grayscale (pre-thresholded) image fo r the color being removed. Therefore, this value should be higher than the threshol d value selected on the Imaging tab for this pixel to becom e the background color .

Image addressi ng is used for document tracking, batch control and image management. The Image Address t ab allows you set an image address st arting point and increment the image addre ss according to how the application is setup.

Field B is defined as a 4-character level 3 field. Field C is defined as a 3-character level 2 field, and Field D is defined as a 2-chara cter level 1 field.

This value is the amount of time the scanner will wait af ter the last document enters the transport before the transp ort t imeout action is t aken. Y ou can specify a time delay setting from 5 to 300 seconds.
