A-61517 October 2004 1-1 1 Introduction Kodak i100 Series Scanners The Kodak i100 Series Scanners are low-volume production scanners which include image proce ssing technology , can improve image quality and sometimes make the reproduction better than the origi nal.
A-61517 October 2004 1-2 About this manual This manual provides the following: Chapter 1, Introduction includes a brief summary of the Kodak i100 Series Scanners, a list of features available for each scanner and the support d rivers.
A-61517 October 2004 1-3 Image output s i100 Series Scanners can return bi -tonal, grayscale or color imag es to the host. Below is a description of the valid combinatio ns. The i150 Scanner is a simplex scanner . This means that only one side of the document may be captured.
A-61517 October 2004 1-4 These image files can be controlled thro ugh the application independently . FB.tif (front bi-tonal) FC.jpg (front color) RB.tif (rear bi -tonal) RC.jpg (rear color) Another example of a simult aneous output where all four images are returned to the host would create the following four fil es: • Front grayscale : FG .
A-61517 October 2004 1-5 These image files can be controlled thro ugh the application independently . FG .jpg (front grayscale) FB.tif (front bi-tonal/binary) RG .
A-61517 October 2004 2-1 2 Best Practices This chapter provides you with recommendatio ns for program logic, which will allow you to interact ef ficiently with the i100 Series Scanner . Thi s high-level information is not intended to be used as a programming g uide.
A-61517 October 2004 2-2 Scanner setup T o setup the scann er: 1. Setup your scanner operating condition s: • simplex/duplex • image order • transport timeout • transport timeout response • .
A-61517 October 2004 2-3 Enable scanning The host must issue a Scan command t o enable scanning before documents can be tran sported through the scan ner .
A-61517 October 2004 2-4 Error handling The scanner recognizes a nd reports a variety of error conditio ns. Some errors are reporte d to the host (via the 13 94 interface) or via the LEDs on the scanner while others are reported to both the host and the LEDs.
A-61517 October 2004 2-5 Controlling image transfer order This section provides job strea m examples which can be used in scanning applications. The host application is resp onsible for determinin g the order in which the scanner return s images. Front images must alway s be retrieved before rear images.
A-61517 October 2004 2-6 Single output grayscale only duplex This job stream is available for i160 Sca nners. 1. Prepare document s. 2. S tart the scanner to do grayscal e duplex scanning (front grayscale and rear grayscale). 3. Setup the scanner to retrieve grayscale image s.

A-61517 October 2004 2-15 Zone processing Zone processing is available on the i100 Serie s Scanners. Some applications have a requireme nt to store part of an image in color or grayscale and th e rest of the image in bi-tonal format (this saves stora ge space by not storin g the entire image in color or grayscale).
A-61517 October 2004 2-16 3. Setup the scanner to retrieve bi-tonal image s first. 4. Setup front bi-tonal for auto cropping. 5. Setup front color for relative cropping and define the appropriate area.
